In order to save the engine from certain doom. JCL has to digitize himself - with the help of a machine he loaned from ENCOM Int. - and enter his computer to fix the bugs from within the machine.

To accomplish this, he has to defeat the "Seven evil HEXes": Bugs located at specific locations in the memory.
