Star Explorers

EDIT: Star Explorers 3.0 release is up, and the game is on sale this weekend ... check it out!
https://store.steampowered.com/app/502720/Star_Explorers/

EDIT: Star Explorers has been Greenlit! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=700074180

I've been working on Star Explorers for a few years now, and its' finally starting to look and feel the way I imagined it. Star Explorers allows the player to explore a randomly generated galaxy with stars, planets and other features.

The goal will be to find earth-like planets, but there are many other types of worlds to search through along the way. Here are some screen shots of the game as it looks right now:

Star Explorers was Greenlit!

I just completed a working, seemingly stable build yesterday. No where close to finished, and a bunch of features short of a real alpha demo, but it does the basic stuff it's supposed to do.

If anyone's interested in trying it out, let me know. I would appreciate feedback at this point.

great! a competitor for No Man's Land?

if you need better lighting and shadows, or better performance for the outdoor scenes I can help... anyway, I would try out the demo!

This Album features music produced by my game "Star Explorers."

Star Explorers is unique in that the music is generated procedurally, just like the galaxies and planets. So each players' experience will be different. These are just a few songs that stood out for me so far...

I'm starting to add a basic storyline to Star Explorers. My goal is to have it fairly simple, so it feels like an open world/sandbox type game, while giving the player an overall goal to work towards. This goal will be only semi-urgent, so the player will not feel that they can't spend time on side quests and such.

I am finding that this is a lot more challenging to do than it sounds. Writing a story into an existing environment is more taxing on my brain than producing artwork or coding. However, I have finalized an idea, and its beginning to be implemented...

The framework for the overall game is almost finished. With the exception of the final mission/quest, I successfully ran through the entire game today. I had to set some cheat codes so I would not have to manually complete each task, but so far so good, the framework seems to be working and stable.

There's still a lot of detail to add, along with secondary or side quests, which I also have nearly complete. I'm thinking release will be in a couple of months, considering I have to add things like Steam Achievements, Trading Cards, Cloud Saves, etc...

Part of running through the game is to find bugs too, and there are plenty of those popping up. So, bear with me, I want the release to be working, stable and fun to play.
