Meteor Mess ( RELEASED )

As the name says: a remake of the mother of all adventures Maniac Mansion in 3D, with Ankh / Jack Keane like graphics.
We made this game to learn how 3D Gamestudio works and to use this knowledge for our first own project.

The game is free and can be downloaded here : https://meteormess.de/

There is also a Facebook and a Twitter page:

After a very long time of non public MM3D videos we decided to provide a short video showing Razor watching the Korg M1 synthesizer:

Razor playing the Korg M1 synth video

We have plans to create a longer video in a kind of trailer style soon.

hm.. you better change the style of the interface.
If you hold on your idea and morph the funny MMess-style into resident evil you better think about a whole graphical concept. What I saw does not fit any more with the shown demo of some years ago.

what I really dislike is the difference between your first start and the new route you took. I know, I repeat my words. But this new style is one true mess with all the known new 3D-adventures like the ones known from adventure-corner. There is nothing individual about your actual work to say.

The interface is not final yet. Actually the style of the game hasn't changed that much. All rooms kept the same but got some more objects (the rooms were too empty just using the object from the original) and we're using textures with higher resolutions now, because in nowadays times of HD most people misliked the old ones.
But I agree that the style of the characters changed completely. The reason is that nearly no one liked them and it was the most (and also one of the very few) points that were criticized when we released the alpha demo.

But I think that MM3D has some things that makes it individual or at least different to other adventures. First of all there are all those different ways to solve the game. Even Lucasarts haven't done this again in any other adventure they did. There are about 500 hotspots objects and many of them can be combined or used in many different ways. Then we don't use any pre-rendered backgrounds, but pure 3D including dynamic lighting and zoom features. Also every action that can't be processed by the character is commented with a special sentence. For example if you try to push the TV you won't get a simple "I can't to that.", but something like "I won't push the TV. It might get broken." Even if you look several times at an object you will get different descriptions (sometimes even different per character). There're a lot of other features that you won't find that often in other adventures.

...maybe you're right with this point. But I think it was not the cartoon style of the characters which people dislike - I think the quality of modelling was the point. And I personal believe that if there is a need to change the old models - it would be better to improve the quality of the mesh / textures and not to change the style from cartoon to what ever the new style is or should be.
The old style worked better because of the power of emotional transfer. It was funny, warm and kind - even the full moon and the scary trees. The new style is a good modeling art but it give you no emotion. For example... the old video with the boy in this old room... lights go out, scary sounds ... and I thought "whoooow... creep show starts". The new character and the new art dont give me this feeling. Anyway.. only my opinion. When you finish this project, you will have enough fans and a great success - the new style will not change that fact.

EDIT:
Sorry - I forgot that this thread was in English. I really like Bernard but just discovered the pics and videos about Razor right now. I think things went a bit too far here as she got huge breasts and a dress that hardly has any cloth in that area and looks a bit surrealistic as the upper half would have to be glued on the skin in order not to just drop down...

That just doesn't seem right to me as it makes Razor look far too "slutty"...

On the original box art Razor also wears leather and put on much more make-up than in our version. We don't know why they have drawn her this way so many years ago, but in my opinion this is just another point of the strange humour of this game: Why the hell does she wear such a dress and high heels to rescue a friend of hers?

On the other hand: nowadays you see those small dresses every day on TV and even young school girls' jeans and tops get smaller and smaller ...

But it's up on you if you like our version of Razor or not ... that's ok :-)

The good thing is ... you can choose one of the other characters :-)

But in the original Coverart she looks more sexy...
Because her Proportions are correct.

In your version it just looks off.

Put her in the same stance as on the Coverart and you will see what I mean.

(its personal taste in the end)
