Really great game. Feels like a Tron world. First snake game, i actually liked.
2 Things: -The responsetime of the keys should be quicker, such that making like a left/down combo lets the sanke quickly move and turn. There is a delay in the keytiming. -dont let the player do a 180 turn, and by this instantly kill himself. (eg, pressing the key opposite to movedirection)
Apart from that, its really great. Maybe you can make a longer snakegame, with even more interactive element, and maybe even using multiple levels (ramp up etc)
Idea: include several lives per level. I know this is hard in the snake gameplay, but you could for example (hen dead) let the time reverse 10 seconds (dynamically resoring old state of the game, or simply loading it) for the new life, so the player does not need to restart the whole level.

Steering: Its a bit balancing, try to save a followup keycommand if its different that the curent one. So it is used when the next grindpoint is choosen. For example: snake moves right. User presses up before snake finishes moving to the full right grid. Up is stored, and applied to move snake up on the next move. Then user presses left, -> command stored and applied when reaching the end of the current up grid.
Lives: Maybe you could store the position of all objects once per second. (history of positions). When player dies, the positions are quickly reverted, making the "time" revert backwards, until 10 seconds before death (its a bit tricky, to do this reverse correctly, especially for dynamic objects like mines) But it would look cool to see the time reverse this way.
With such a life-restore system you can make more complex levels, while keeping the logic of the snake gameplay.

..and the mice should also follow the grid. It looks like they walk free. That's difficult to calculate
