Blade Of Power [+demo]

Hello,

...and welcome to showcase of my first project with 3D Game Studio.
........................................................
Blade of Power in short:
Project >Blade Of Power< has started as a small fun-fiction adventure game based on a popular cartoon serie from the '80 He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. At the beginning, it combined full 3D environment with 2D animated characters. From there it evolved into a fully original first-person game with unique 3D characters and plot that combines adventure segments with action gameplay.
........................................................

Blade Of Power project is going through some deep design changes so none of the videos displayed on this page no longer represents the real development stage of the game, game levels or content... but they are still fun to watch smile

Walkthrough of the Kingdom of Artha: Castle (level 3 /sub-level 3 of 4):

Blade Of Power game overview:

>New video<
Walkthrough of the Kingdom of Artha: Lower Wing (level 3 /sub-level 4 of 4):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5iIwd8Jy_k&fmt=22

........................................................

Blade Of Power demo that is available for download is, at this moment (26.04.2010), about 10 months old and it no longer represents the real development stage of the game, game levels or content.
Demo has been broke into four files for easier download. I hope you enjoy it smile

http://bladeofpower.weebly.com/demo.html

Btw when evaluating this demo you should keep in mind that...

-all character models, friendly & enemy, have been replaced or enhanced
-all music & most of the audio effect files have been replaced or enhanced
-laser battling is replaced with sword fighting
-enemy AI is replaced with David Lancester's Glorious Combat script adapted for first person sword fight

..unfortunately non of this updates is in the presentable form frown
........................................................
........................................................
Blade of Power team is:

Nikolic Pavle >Ganderoleg< / Story, gameplay, 2D & 3D art, animation and programing.
Gligorijevic Ivan >Dimme< / Story, music & audio effects.

...with very special credits & thanks to:
Andjelkovic Petar/ Story, additional level designer.
Urosevic Svetlana/ Design advisory and tester.
........................................................
For more information visit Blade of Power site at:

Site contains over 100 screenshots, three videos & Blade Of Power demo.
........................................................

Thanx for checking out this post. Have fun.

It can be tedious smile
I must admit I never tried your exporter but I see it's very popular and many people are using it.
I think I will give it a go in a few days to see how it runs. Thanx

Is there a way to combine a full render and Ambient Occlusion for one shadow map?
That could improve the shadow map and the overall look.

I was looking forward to Iridium but I couldn't even see half of the effects of that demo on my computer(my screen was almost totally black) frown After reading about framerate issues it may be difficult to use it for my game.

My PC is almost 3 years old and configuration is:

Athlon 64 AM2 3000 BOX AMD
1024MB DDR2 PC667 Kingston
ATI Radeon RX1600 Pro 256MB MSI

…and my game runs a constant 50-60 fps in normal conditions (with shaders, PPe, characters, full animations and ChrisB's fullscreen antialiasing plugin) & around 15-30 fps in the middle of the battle.

I'm not saying that things won't improve in next Iridium demo but...let's wait and see.

Not really my "type" of game (never been into fiction/fantasy games, really), but I can tell this is a fun game, somehow. I dare say I would actually play this game if someone showed it to me, which is saying a LOT (because I'm not really into this genre). I don't know what your actual play and storyline is like, but the art and design are totally awesome.

I see a great deal of hard work went into this level design, and it payed off! Looks very professional, and I think this game could sell well! Excellent, professional-looking effects and scenery. Keep it up, and I wish you much success with this and your other projects! I hope the gameplay and storyline is as good as the scenery and art! wink

@Jaeger
Thanx for reply. Fact that this game concept is not among your favorites makes your feedback even more valuable smile I'm glad you like it.

@Ratchet
I have redone NM on floors. Used completely different type of shader. I think they look a bit better now.

...................................................

I have also redone shadowmaps to make rooms seem older and more “dirty”...

...and added furniture set from that great contribution made by Rincewind (merchant's mansion in Leipzig, Germany, from 1901). I modified textures a bit (just some color-filtering) but they will go through larger changes later on.

My pleasure, and I call em like I see em. And this one looks great! smile

Also, you can let me know if you ever need some photo-realistic textures w/ normal maps, spec maps, etc. I'm like C-Loc: "What'eva ya want, I got it!" lol! smile

Oh, one crit though:

In your new pics you linked, some things, like the furniture looks pretty shiny. Was that intentional? I mean, it DOES look realistic, like really polished and clear coated furniture, but I think you're going for an "antiqued look" aren't you?

Your right about furniture but it's not in it's finished state yet smile It still needs some texture modifications (if you take a closer look there is a difference between sofa and chairs siting area: one is more red then another, and that case piece is much brighter then other furniture) and better shader tuning (now it really looks over-polished).

I am not saying that there is anything wrong with Rincewind's original textures but they need some adjustments to fit my level-atmos.

I'm good at the moment with textures and stuff but I am not sure what will happen when work on the last level starts. Last one is still in concept stage. Do you have site?

No site yet. Looking to have one up soon. I'm going to be opening more than just a personal site though; one for our whole dev team with public forums and everything. If you ever need something, just pm me, and we can arrange something. smile I will certainly give some samples for your review.

Yeah,

Yous must change the shader for furnitures: it have too much specular, like it has been raining inside the room smile

I think you use a shader doing normal map and speucular at same time. It's easy to change the specular value in it.

Well , good job.
We hope to find a demo soon even a pre beta smile

Do you use only the sunlight for the mdl's or do you have dynamic lights in the rooms? If yes, how did you manage the three light limit?

The new design looks great. The textures are very good. Keep up the good work. Im looking forward to the first beta^^
