Blade Of Power [+demo]

Hello,

...and welcome to showcase of my first project with 3D Game Studio.
........................................................
Blade of Power in short:
Project >Blade Of Power< has started as a small fun-fiction adventure game based on a popular cartoon serie from the '80 He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. At the beginning, it combined full 3D environment with 2D animated characters. From there it evolved into a fully original first-person game with unique 3D characters and plot that combines adventure segments with action gameplay.
........................................................

Blade Of Power project is going through some deep design changes so none of the videos displayed on this page no longer represents the real development stage of the game, game levels or content... but they are still fun to watch smile

Walkthrough of the Kingdom of Artha: Castle (level 3 /sub-level 3 of 4):

Walkthrough of the Kingdom of Artha: Lower Wing (level 3 /sub-level 4 of 4):

........................................................

Blade Of Power demo that is available for download is, at this moment (26.04.2010), about 10 months old and it no longer represents the real development stage of the game, game levels or content.
Demo has been broke into four files for easier download. I hope you enjoy it smile

http://bladeofpower.weebly.com/demo.html

Btw when evaluating this demo you should keep in mind that...

-all character models, friendly & enemy, have been replaced or enhanced
-all music & most of the audio effect files have been replaced or enhanced
-laser battling is replaced with sword fighting
-enemy AI is replaced with David Lancester's Glorious Combat script adapted for first person sword fight

..unfortunately non of this updates is in the presentable form frown
........................................................
........................................................
Blade of Power team is:

Nikolic Pavle >Ganderoleg< / Story, gameplay, 2D & 3D art, animation and programing.
Gligorijevic Ivan >Dimme< / Story, music & audio effects.

...with very special credits & thanks to:
Andjelkovic Petar/ Story, additional level designer.
Urosevic Svetlana/ Design advisory and tester.
........................................................

Site contains over 100 screenshots, three videos & Blade Of Power demo.

@Schmerzmittel
Thanx. I think this design fits more with new, non-motu concept.
…but as for Philip's Castle exterior (walls & garden) we have decided to keep it in it's original texture/color look. It will be a small tribute to He-Man and Masters of the Universe.

I think they do not misfit all that much confused
They will also be modified but only by adding more detail and updating/changing the existing motu-marks (shields, flags and stuff).

I avoid using dynamic lights unless really necessary (like for fires or explosions) and use only sun as the main light source.

@Ratchet
Spec is too high (raining-high) grin now but as soon as I get the furniture textures right I will fine-tune the shader.

@Jaeger
Thanx for the offer smile I will contact you if we need custom texture work.
What do you use for making NM? I'm currently using Normal Map Generator by Kai Kieschnick.

I use several different methods for producing NMs, depending upon what I'm looking for. I really love this program called "CrazyBump", which uses shape recognition to generate very detailed NMs based on photographs. It works great for certain material sets where I'm using real pictures of surfaces/objects. I also use the Nvidia Normal Map filter for Photoshop (free plug-in) for hand painting heightmaps, which it transforms to a NM. I've done them by hand a couple times, but it's too time consuming and usually has poor results. There are also ways of using a high poly model to produce a NM, then use it with a low poly version. It usually looks awesome. I think Maya can do it, but I've never tried. Does seem like a lot of work though.

I'll PM you a couple pics in a minute. smile

With maya it isnt lot of work.

You make a Highpoly model (and keep your lowpoly). Then you can use Transfermap to export the normalmap. Its very easy.

You can also export displacementmaps, ambient occlusion and so on. You can use the 30 day trial from maya.

I've got Maya Unlimited (cost me an arm and a leg, lol). smile I just mean the whole process of building the high-poly model is pretty time consuming, at least for me. CrazyBump also does occlusion maps, displacement maps, and other things. I really love it. smile

Why not use ZBrush 3.1 ? A very interesting and easy-to-use 2.5D software, however more suitable and useful for organic models... I think it's a good idea to make normal maps for the monsters or sceletons or castle residents or whatever therein....

a generator of dull questions smile

An arm and a leg for Maya Unlimited would translate in my case as an arms, legs and a part of my face grin
CrazyBump and Zbrush are also too expensive for me but Silo seems to be priced in my range. I'll check it out.

Blender has some options that resemble NM making but I never gave them a try.

@Jaeger
Thanx for screens they look great smile I like the Panzer IV F-2 model best.

Oh, thanks! smile

That's not even going in the game though, heheh. The Tiger I will be the first "finished" tank, inside and out. I think it's going to take ages to UV and skin though, lol. The Panzer IV still needs some remodeling, and needs an interior model. After that, it must be re-UV mapped and skinned, lol.

I own Silo and can say : it's a great modeler, with lot lot lot of shortcuts intuitive to use :
loop cuts, cut only selected faces ,loop select etc .. etc ..

For 3D sculpting a great tool is 3D coat :
nbot very expensive and have lot of 3D painting functions :
painting color, specular, all traditionnal scultping options plus painting 3D things , UV mapping,very powerfull and intuitive retopology.

Well MudBox and Zbrush : sure they worth their money if someone can offer them smile

I thought this may be interesting to someone- we decided to give Dexsoft a try with their models & I think it's going on fine for now smile

Here are some screens showing modifications done on figures in order to fit global game-style. It's still wip but take a look:

I am not happy with knight modification in two areas: helmet & crotch area, and bystander has that weird light shine in the middle of his chest but a part from that I think so far it's o.k.
