Running Food - Playable Demo

Hello all!

Some of you might remember our first demo, posted about a year ago. Well, we feel the game has improved quite a bit since then, so now it is time for another demo.

Those of you who were at the DUSMania 7 have already seen this - all others enjoy the 4 playable levels!

Readme is included, here is a screenshot:

And here is the link: Playable Demo

Have fun! Feedback is appreciated. :-)

i love it.
i allways loved it.
great improvements.
textures could use a bit work, maybe a bit sharpen them, but overall awesome stuff.
however, its sad that the comic style is gone...

Thank you for your comments!

Maybe, some of you find some more time to play it and can give us hints how to improve it.

Yeah, the comic style is gone. It happened when I worked on improving the healthbar . It got this glas and wood like look, that I liked much, but that doesn't fit with the rest of the game, so i changed all other things.
But I am quite happy with the chance to use textures and sprites made from photographs, because it imports a lot of imagination, and it is a lot of fun to take the photographs.

There should be a slider for the viewdepth/Fog though.
Currently the level fades out in Fog, but the backround
is still sharp to see.

thats because the fog is not applied to the skybox.
use voluminetric fog
or there is some glitch in there;-)

It is as Edward_Elric says, the background is made of skybox and two horizons which are not effected by the fog.

Probably, we should add transparent layers in the colour of the fogs of the different daytimes to the sky to make them more similar to the fog.

The 'world conditions' of the game are very artificial (toys that come alive for a symbolical day under a merciless sun, the visible nodes, marbles as food etc.), wherefor I try to find a balance between the 'natural world' and the artificial gaming constraints. What want to maintain are the outlines of the sprites of plants, hedges, gates...

--------

What we forgot to mention in the credits: we used Steempipe's FFP code for environment mapping at the nodes.

I liked the comic look, but this one is also not bad,
in case you correct the fog thing, as it creates some ugly scenes sometimes.

What i want to suggest is an ingame menu, because i was a bit confused
as i pressed esc and the main menu opened, where i just can resart but
not continue with a button (found out that esc again does the trick).
When the player opens the menu the ingame music and speech should be paused,
as having both music streams is a bit confusing.

From the credits i've read that you're going again to the GC?
Well done and congratulation Achim und Lars, this year i wont be there.

That's sad! Yes, we are going again to the GC. We will arrive by car and have to leave by train, and we hope to get a cheap place to sleep, because we plan to stay more than one day.

Thank you for your suggestion on the menu. This is a sort of detail that a developer is easely missing.

By the way, as you already mentioned:
This version is a bit different to that one that we showed at the DUSmania, some improvements are made: mainly the music, and one level that was still quite incomplete at the DUSmania.

Hey...looks great! I like the new look a lot...world, speech and music turned out very well! I'll have to play it some more to be able to judge the gameplay...so far it seems good.
...the plants are not bad either! ...makes me feel so proud to see my name in the credits!!!
