FYI - Copy of message just sent to support (attachments not included):

I hope somebody sees this on the weekend...

I have upgraded from 1.83.2 to 1.88.6 on my VPS. 1.88.6 crashes within 5 minutes of clicking Trade. This is running Z3. I haven't yet tried Z12 or any other script. Normal startup messages appear in the Zorro window. The crash is reproducible. Attached are the Windows crash messages and the log files from the last 3 times. The first 2 log files were with Verbose=7; the last one was with Verbose=15.

What is wrong? How can 1.88.6 be fixed?

I installed 1.88.6 into a separate folder and can still run 1.83.2. 1.83.2 does not crash - this is specific to 1.88.6.

Separately, I am starting Zorro with the -diag flag, but NO diag.txt file is being produced - is this broken?

Thanks.

No, but support can probably not do much for you without the diag.txt.

Your problem could be a damaged file or library, so the first measure is to delete that Zorro folder with all old files completely, then download and install Zorro again and start a fresh session. And run a system and malware check before.

Hi jcl.

I debugged the situation to the point of identifying dagocmd.db as the offending file. With dagocmd.db in the Zorro folder, 1.88.6 crashes after startup processing and diag.txt is not written.

When this file is not in the Zorro folder, 1.88.6 does not crash and diag.txt is written.

I have provided this information to support, but their only response to date is that this file is related to SED. There has been no explanation of why it causes 1.88.6 to crash.

There has also been no explanation of why diag.txt is not written until after the startup process completes through lookback. Shouldn't diag.txt be written starting as soon as a strategy is started?

Thanks.

Yes. If a file on my hard disk affected the running of an unrelated program, I'd first suspect a damage to the OS or file system.

You should try to find and fix it, or else that system might continue to crash, regardless of the Zorro version.

Actually, I first suspect "unrelated", especially since SED has been a part of the Zorro ecosystem into which I have no visibility and therefore cannot confirm that no code referencing SED is being executed.

Also because it is not just a file on the hard disk. It is the placement of a copy of that file into the Zorro folder - a very specific circumstance that indicates Zorro is trying to do something it shouldn't if it sees that file is there.

Lastly, why is the writing of diag.txt delayed until after all the strategy startup through lookback has run?

Thanks.

@jcl, & any others with suggestions: What is a good malware checker to use on Windows Server 2012?

There are no disk errors, and Windows Update has been run multiple times, including after activating Desktop Experience in order to access Disk Cleanup.

The crash consistently names either Zorro.exe or kernelbase.dll as the faulting module, but the triggers of the crash have changed. Initially it was the SED module, but with SED eliminated from the Zorro folder the trigger became -diag in conjunction with Verbose=7. 1.96.4 crashes in the same way...

Support has also suggested checking the OS/system, hence the search for a malware checker...

Thanks.

I suppose any malware checker like Kaspersky or Avira would work on Server 2012, but I don't know which is best - I have not yet had the case of an infected server. If the server is only used for trading, the simplest solution is formatting the HD and reinstalling all. Preferably a newer system than Server 2012.
