Hello,
I am going to use a broker that has no demo account, hence no way to paper trade. I wonder if it's possible to use real brokerage account and Zorro's Phantom Mode to simulate paper trading? Will it work? If not, is there any workaround?

I'd appreciate any help on this topic! Thank you!

I just thought about if phantom trades on a real account could be an alternative to real trades on a demo account in general because demo accounts often have (slightly) different conditions and behave (slightly) different than real accounts.
The first thing is surely that phantom trades are treated seperately in trading statistics and in the performance report, they are accounted to some points and not to some other ones (details in the manual). Then I wonder if transaction costs are accounted to phantom trades but the manual says "In test mode the simulated costs are displayed, in trade mode the real costs" so if phantom trades on a real account do not cause real costs I guess they won't be accounted and this is (for me) a KO criteria. But I'm sure I missed some other important differences! laugh

This is indeed possible, with the mentioned restriction that trading costs, slippage etc of a phantom trade is simulated only. It should be close, but is not the real thing. But this is normally also true for a demo account.

If you have Zorro S, set the account to read/only in the account list for phantom trading.

Thanks for your replies!
Maybe you know of a better way to implement a paper trading (if a broker has no demo account)... or phantom trading is currently the best option?

It comes to a more general question about the strategy development process. What is a best practice? After a successful backtest start a live trading with small capital and slowly increase its amount? I was thinking about filling a gap between backtest and live trading with paper trading. Or it doesn't really help? What's your experience? Thank you!

Paper trading for 2-3 days makes sense when your strategy is complex and you want to make sure that it has no bugs that only happen in trade mode. Aside from that I know no use of paper trading.
