Hi,

I've been trying to add some 1024x1024 textures (including normal maps) to a WED level. The first folder contains 48 textures (24 and their normal maps) and the second contains 62 textures (31 and normals).

Adding just one folder (via add folder or building a wad file) works fine. However when I try to add both folders I get problems:

If I add them as folders I get this error when trying to build the map: "can't write *.$$w".

If I add them as WAD files when I try to add the second one the texture manager gives me an error: "No to all"

Not sure what could be the problem, maybe there is a number of textures or memory limit?

Thanks

Not that I know of. You can add many WAD files to a map that are then combined to the $$W. Maybe one of the textures is damaged or has an unsupported format, invalid characters in the name or something like that?

the point is that I can add either one of the wads and it works fine. However, when I try to add both wads on the same level the error appears.

I this case like said before it's most likely a name issue.. As in, when adding both wads , the images in both have similar names. Try appending a wadset name to the front of all image names..

i.e. "WD1_skyblue.tga"

Also check file name length there is a issue know there.

Final I had some similar error when import block had a second skin. This in WED was a light map but in 3dsmax was not. All blocks, had a fully black second skin that had to be deleted.

Final note... I stopped a fresh project 2 weeks ago over not being able to fully solve the "No to All' error, which is about as helpful an error code or throw message as "Somethings wrong"....

I've created a new empty level and I didn´t get the "no to all" error after adding both wads. Maybe the other level file had some kind of issue. So I will work over the new level and I will post here if I get the error again when the level has some blocks placed.

Shouldn't be able to remove all textures from the old level, in file and on the blocks, then export the level as mdl7 and import into the new space? Save you time of rebuilding it all. Maybe not....

<--- Looks deep into the future for that so called new WED... Sees nothing but fog . frown

It's not a problem to rebuild the level again. I had just some blocks and corridors for testing, so it won't take a lot of time. Also I will try to export the corridor pieces as prefabs.

Bump ^ so does this then turn out to be a bug - that happens after you add a folder in a wed level? There was no fallow up, your fix was the same as mine, which was to start a clean level. And jcl never address if it was a bug or a process error by the users.

It is a bug. In fact I just notice that I had it already listed, from a 2014 report. There is a problem with a texture, such as a double name that is already used for another element. But the error message is wrong and does not tell you what the problem is. This is on the fix list for a future WED update.
