Hi guys! Remember that game I told you all about a while ago? As a matter of fact, it's still being worked on. I have a small little team of four now and over the past 10 months we've made quite a lot of progress. Enough, in fact, to launch a new kickstarter for the game!

The truth is, it's been a long time coming. We struggled for a whole month to get attention from the media to help give this a boost before we launched it, but apparently news about kickstarter campaigns is less popular than news about games in general, so we weren't able to get any support like that on the way out the door as we were able to last time. Nonetheless, we have the means to advertise this game to an extent ourselves, and as the month wears on we thoroughly believe we'll be able to pick up enough steam to get this train moving -- with your help, that is!

We're very hopeful because we have to be! In the grand scheme of things, we're not asking for much money at all, but I guarantee you that we need every bit of it.

At any rate, you can check out the kickstarter here:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1617865665/barony

It's got a trailer! And pictures! And lots of words! So please tell everyone you know about it. It would mean the world to us, really.

Okay, so before everyone is like "oh crap, not another kickstarter":

I played an early prototype of the game a while ago, and it was really good! The concept is absolutely neat, and so was the execution of it. Really liking the game and its idea a lot and would love to see it become a reality!

Not much else to say, besides that I want you guys to back it! (And putting my money where my mouth is, this is going to be the first kickstarter I will ever back...)

What, our Kickstarter is floundering? Who would've imagined?

Well, in light of this, everyone on our team decided that our best bet at reviving interest both in our game and our kickstarter would be to finally publish an alpha demo of the game so that everyone can actually play it for themselves before deciding whether its worth backing or not.

You can download the alpha at our game's official(ly small and dinky) website:

http://www.baronygame.com/

If this doesn't change anyone's minds, we don't believe much else will, so we're posting news of this not just to our humble little home on TIGSource but also to every gaming news site we can think of.

And by the way: thanks very much for the kind words, Sid! You should all listen to him, the game is definitely really really good. Really!

nice little game. (a long-long time ago I had this idea to create characters out of little cubes, but it was back in the time when games used 2D graphics, and I was unable to implement the tools to manage the design and conversions, beside school and rock band...) by the way, the game has a much better retro design than the ventilator in your room tongue

Hey, some ideas and questions:

o I really like the oldschool style, looks neat!
o But i don't like the dark areas couldn't see a thing, maybe make them a bit brighter.
o What engine do you use? Looks like it is Voxlap...
o Cool to have so many different classes and stuff
o Inventory is good, but imho a bit hard to use.

  • Thanks!
  • Maybe equip a torch. wink
  • The engine is custom-built. Literally everything was made from the ground up.
  • Yeah, ultimately we think that should make the game more replayable/interesting in the long run.
  • Hmm. Maybe it's because it's not obvious what clicking on an item will do?

Fire drops framerate:

EDIT: Not the fire, but at some special directions, the framerate drops from 120 to 2

Hmm, yeah. Some other people have reported that as well. In case you're curious, it's not any of the lighting effects, those have a really tiny time-complexity growth rate. It's likely just the models themselves, the pipeline for rendering those are not well optimized yet so they can kill the game's framerate if there are too many of them within the player's field of view. Don't worry, we're working on it though.

In other news: we finally got featured in another publication today! And twitch.tv is going to be live-streaming some gameplay, too. Talk about awesome!
