What about using the built-in mesh reducer of MED?

Yes, you can because you've got a pro version. ^^

In the commercial edition this menu entry is missing.

Oh, ok. Then importing it in blender and using the blender mesh reducer should work^^

I used MED tool vertex 'merge' and got it down to about 31k vertices...
No other manipulation was required.

But it still had over 64k polys, so I gave up at that point.
Before trying it in-engine...

BUT... if +64K polys works in engine, OR you can trim out some
'un-neccessary' geometry (like car seats and stuff) you could get it
down to 64K polys without too much trouble I believe.
It was only over by a few hundred from memory.

(I dont have the model on this PC, Im at work. So I cant look further)
