That's a good page. Here's bupaje's findings: http://www.conitecserver.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=493782 I'll be contacting a moderator about updating the initial post one of these days. No time or desire at the moment.

There are several magazine that deserve to be here. One is

http://www.digitmag.co.uk/

another is

http://www.computerarts.co.uk

I check them out at the magazine store from time to time to see what free software they have (usually previous version stuff) -probably should subscribe. To give you an idea the magazine is about $12-$14 by me and I got Carrara Studio free and at the time was able to get the full version for about $79 instead of $450+. I also got a copy of Credo's LifeForms 3.5 for free and I can now get an upgrade for $89 instead of $400 for full product. I have also gotten older version of Poser, Vue and free textures, models and sound files from several of these mags.

Forget the name of the others but think they may have been http://www.futurenet.co.uk publications.

Microsoft Expression 3 should be on the list. This is a really good and free vector program.

cool text: Logo Generator a website that will generate buttons and logos. Not great but could be useful. Not sure on liscence.

Height map editor A terrain editing program. Not too bad i beleive its free for any use but check the site to be sure.

Xara 3d A logo and button generator. around 50 dollars but does a pretty nice job.

Hope some of these are usefull.

I could not find ZBrush in these posts. That is a 3d software to add details to a model just as simple as painting on it. You get some displacement map. That could be handy for normal mapping in games:

It's a nifty program, but too expensive for the scope of this thread. Try to keep them under $150.
