Is there a font that is fixed that is available on everyone's machine? I was working with a TTF Arial but I could get things to line up. I used an A4 font which is fixed, but doesn't look as good.

Long time ago I used courier to print fixed width documents, I think that same principle goes here. Try it

courier seems to work well for panels when you need things to line up.
Thanks

of course. Courier has an unified character size.
You could save the size of each character in an array and then calculate the size.

You could add some kerning values for some character combinations, too.

While the combination "WL" means, that the letter L has to start after the full width
of the letter W - it is not the same case for the combination of WA.
You could optimize the density of your font this way, and avoid some unwanted
ugly gaps between chars.

I used a simple technique that I developed, for my rpg I took the high quality picture in photoshop and typed my dialog there and based on the 'strings x-y coordinates positioning' was getting the input back from the user. It works great and you can also see the text clearer!
