Hey every one,

The following information is from my website: www.stonehill-online.de

Today I'm gonna release the new IceX2 update. It's the version 2.2 and free for download for all owners of IceX 2.0.

Here's a list of the new features:

- The material editor. You can create up to 25 own materials and assign them to your entities.
You can change the values given by the engine: ambient, emissive, specular, diffuse, power,
albedo and alpha.
- The blendmap generator: with this tool you can set a height and a slope value and the tool
paints automatically the texture you chose on the terrain, depending on the height and slope.
- A so call "Entitiy Floor" is now there. On this floor you can place entities if you want
a level without any terrain
- Now it's possible to load MDL7 models with external skins or DDS textures.
- The terrain is now rendered by a shader, not by a fixed funtions effect anymore. This has
the advantage that stencil shadows are now available
- If you import an entity the LOD models will be automatically imported too (if there are
any LOD models)
- View your level in fullscreen by pressing the F1 button
- The water shader were removed for technical reasons
- The shadow generator now also generates static entity shadows.
- Now there's no need to load LOD textures for the terrain. The LOD texture will be generated
automatically from the detail textures

In addition the street tool were also released with this features:
- Easy drag and drop editing
- Height adjustment and movement
- Adjustable width of the street
- Automatic texture adjusting to avoid texture distortion
- Assign your own external textures
- Supports texture scaling
- Automatic edge smoothing for realistic soft edged streets
- Export to MDL7 file format and automatic placement in WED (WMP-File)

Some screenshots:

More information and how you get all this stuff on my website:

Have a nice day ;\)

This looks cool indeed and the price is very reasonable. I have to look into getting this for sure!

Am I right, that I have to buy the street tool even if I own IceX 2? \:\(

Is it possible to "bake" the streets in as MDL, or does the tool always dynamically re-draw the roads when you do a level load?

Yes you can convert the streets into MDL. Then it's a normal entity in your level but you can't edit the street anymore.

By the way. I forgot to say that there is a trial version on the website of IceX 2.2 including the street tool.

I just purchased this tool and it is excellent. I am very happy with it. I highly recommend this tool. It is very easy to use.

I was wondering just a few things.

Is there a Pan?

What is the yellow icon with the arrows that is next to the X Y Z? I clicked on it and nothing happened.

Water can not be used in this version?

Oh yes... I have to write a new manual.

The yellow icon activates the ingame physics. I you check in the entity control panel the physics for an entity you can press the yellow icon to simulate physics.

I guess you can use it together because with IceX2 you just made your level of MDL oder HMP terrains. The level will be exported with a small script file which includes the terrain's functions, materials, etc. So you just have to include the IceX script into the IntenseAI script or include the IntenseAI script into the IceX script.

Hey oliver,

I tried to download the iceX2 demo to see how this works, but unfortunately the export level feature was disabled, so I didn't have a chance to see the script file that IceX2 produces.

Since for a non-programmer it's easier to let Intense X load every level using Intense X's panels, so does your script file attempts to load the level it created as well, or is it just a collection of actions that get activated once the user loads the level on his own?

Btw, if you like I'd be happy to trade you a copy of IntenseX for IceX2 just to get to see how these two work together.

Cheers,
Aris

Hello oliver and everyone,

I got IceX and did some testing with it and thought I'd post my findings here for anyone interested in this combination (IceX+IntenseX). Not compatible.. :P

The reason is pretty simple.. IceX2.2 is C-Script only while IntenseX is Lite-C only. So if you want to use these two programs together you'll need to be able to convert the .wdl files that IceX2.2 exports into lite-c first.

After you make the conversion, Intense X can be implemented into any Lite-C project with a click of a button. But if you're not a programmer, little can be done to get these two to work out of the box right now.

Cheers,
Aris

Hey folks,

today I uploaded a new and free update for IceX2 which allows you to export the scripts into Lite-C.

So now you could IceX2 use together with IntenseX. But how this works, you have to ask Larry wink

Vielen Dank für die schnelle Antwort

Hello

At present , if I am not wrong, blocks can not cast static shadows on terrain in wed while dynamic shadows increase the rendering time.

Would it possible to make a terrain with static models ( buildings, trees , walls, streets etc ) with shadow in IceX 2.0 and then to export it in WED, disabling the shadows property of the static models ?

If so, can I expext a good quality ?

Yes this is possible. I guess the quality would be good. If you want to be sure about the quality you can try it with the trial version.

It's not a replecment of WED, it's more another level editor for outdoor levels. The adavantage is that IceX2 is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get editor. You edit your level in realtime and see the results immediately.

hey oliver, isn't it possible to modified the street tool to built rivers?
I saw that in another world-editor and it seems to be a good way for designing water in WYSIWYG editors smile

Hiho Ollie,

Yes this is possible. IceX2 have no in-built texture shift material but that can be assigned after exporting.

Sehr gute Arbeit. Weiter so.

Oliver

Just to be sure
I want to implement an RPG movement
The player following the mouse pointer regardless of the camera position

I send a ray from the camera to a point under the terrain
I find the intersection with the terrain etc...

Any problem with a terrain imported from IceX ?

It should be not. IceX creates just the same models (hmp or mdl) as MED.

Tagchen mal wieder.

In welche Richtungen hast du alles gedreht? In alle (pan, tilt, roll)?

Jo.

Bevor hier komplette Ratlosigkeit ausbricht wink :

Schmerzmittel found a bug. After exporting a level, the angles of an entity are wrong if it was rotated by more than 2 directions.

There's an new update out now. It fixes a critical but: if you save a level and load it from that save file again, you get randomly a weird cracked up level. The angle bug is still there, but I'm working on it.

Oliver,

How do we download the newest updates? I purchased Icex2 level editor quite a while ago and my email does not say how to download updates.

I have never received an update email or anything like that. I can send proof of purchase if need be.

Perhaps it's because my email address has changed since I bought it. My old email address was mfelker at primerica dot gosolo dot com. My new email address is mfelker at mfelkerco dot com.
