Hey guys....so...I play alot of Counterstrike Source, TF2 and others with the source engine. Was wondering if someone could gimme some tips on editing CS:S maps in GS. I mean, they are all BSP files but I can't edit them in WED. I'm just learning how to use GS but I would like to know if this is possible foe the future when I start getting the hang of things,

There isn't a standard BSP format, so a Source BSP is not the same as a 3DGS BSP.

In theory, there should be a way to convert from one to the other, but I'm not sure if a solution exists.

A google search brings up this. Which may allow you to export to another format then import that into 3DGS. Probably not the best solution, but should get you started (use Google ).

Convert the BSP to a Map file.
Search on this Page www.thewall.de for the BSP2Map Converter.
Convert the map, check the Map for Broken or damaged Blocks, resave the Map, open it with the MED...
This could be done within less 5 minutes...

But the Texture WAD files are not same, like the 3DGS WAD files. So youll must create your own Textures and re-Texture the whole Map !

hope this helps a lot

decompiling source or goldsource bsp maps is always a very bad idea.
Those decompilers create an 1 unit thick brush for every surface.
So its not actually recreating the original .map/.rmf file and the newly created .map file is pretty much unusable.

Besides, don't rip other peoples work, make your own maps.

Well, I didn't really intend copying per-say. There are many good maps that I've played that are upgraded versions of older maps...and it will help me learn.

But in that case, how about simply using my WED levels in CS:S, rather then bringing ones made already into WED?

you can save your WED maps as .map files and then load them into Hammer to compile them.
I guess you'd have to retexture everything in Hammer though

Okay...I'm saving my WED level as a .map but Hammer isn't detecting it when I browse to open. Retexturing everything isn't a big deal, I'll just build it untextured. But yeah, I don't wanna use Hammer over GS.
