In fact if your passion is programming , doing small games (and lot of small
games are selled each day , and some are fantastic, even more lor of remakes are done nowadays)
If that keep on that way :
use TV3D that is incredubly simple as B3D or learn another simple 3D engine like Irllicht and do your passion : programming for fun !

But if you want to create a complete solutions for 3D artists like i asaid :
the tools , interfaces will be the main thing ( Far Cry editor for
example : What you see is wha tyou get .. ofr shaders,physics, terrain etc ..)

Like i said a 3D artits would have only to script dialog, game behaviour and
AI !

3DGS is Not Far Cry editor ,
it's not Unreal 3 engine or some more affordable pro engine ,
but it is shaping really really well ,
it lacks on shader editing , terrain folliage manager and other things,
but it does its jobs and it is progressing really reeally well
and it's the most easy ot use !
Like some other people once you get in you never live even if betters tools exists you'll keep coming back

With 3DGS you even can create small games, you already have a world editor,
c script is as easy as B3D !

Well it's up to you ,
you see in fact you must really think and define your real goal !
programming for pleasure , small game making and coding for pleasure ?
coding effects and behaviour for fun ?

Technically, what your making is a wrapper for other tools, not really an engine. If you were making an engine, it would take you much more time and effort because you would actually be creating the engine. Here, you're simply wrapping a little bit of code around other peoples work, and claiming it as your own engine (which may be legal, depends on the software your using)...

I see a solution for this problem:

Just don't call it "engine". Call it studio. You want to have all the tools as well so it can be called "Original 3D Studio".
But even programming those tools will be a tough job. I know it from programmers who did it for Ogre. It took them a lot of time (years) and they are still not mature enough the be distributed.

I could imagine that it will be easier to create it around Irrlicht than around Ogre but I don't have enough experience with it.

By the way: I don't like that some of you call this illegal. I don't believe that an editor for ogre or irrlicht is illegal. As an artist I highly appreciate such efforts because I would like to use such easy-to-handle editors for engines like Ogre and Irrlicht.
Just don't call it an engine. It is a tool-set or a studio. It might be a wrapper but this is hard work as well if you do it right.

I think the expert is right. I use 3Dgs to work with programmers so for my own game I've to play around with template or stuff. most of the 3d artists want somethink like Game Logic (crystal space) or logic brick ( blender game engine) maybe if you want something affordable and powerfull why don't you try to make something similar with lite-c, or maybe ogre or irrilicht. Look Crisis engine 2 is already with sort or logic brick, unreal engine 3 also could be used without programming. I think if you manage to succeed in making this ( I don't know if it's legal or something) many people would be thanksfull for this. Because A6 is a really good engine and even if it's lack of features I think if we could focus on the main problem for a game making the quality will increase.

friendly frank is also right, I don't know if neoaxis is an engine or a wrapper ( I don't really understand the diference ) but they call it engine.

héhéhéhé, we just have to pray a lot to hope to see something as complete
as Far Cry SandBox editor/tools in indie market
In fact that's what all we would need :
just code GAme logic, events, and AI nothing else !

@ the expert@ I don't know anything about sandbox. How doees it works ?

I heard the crysis engine 2 will have game logic like nodes and links but I didn't know for the sandbow engine.

Just buy the game Far Cry : 10 Euros now !
You have an editor to play with , not complicated to use :
what you see is what you get


That's outstanding ,it is so complete :shaders,terrain,physics editors etc ...
and so complete for an old engine in terms of effects,shaders ...
it is considered old game : more than two years now,
Crysis is arriving ...
And in indie market we don't have (and not before lot of time)
something as complete as far Cry editor/engine

Well let's just prey
