For the love of all that is rightous, somebody help me here.

I have been using GS 6.3.4(?) commercial for ages now, and, quite suddenly, the following problem has occured.

Whenever I try to run a level, any level, the "Loading name.wdl" meter begins, and after about four dots, it just stops, then the engine locks up (I have to ctrl-alt-del to move again.)

I have tried rerunning the level
I have tried rebuilding the level
I have tried restarting the PC
I have tried the previous three steps in various combinations
I have reinstalled Gamestudio
I have reinstalled the newest patch (6.3.4?)
I have tried loading oter levels, but to no avail

By the by, Sed won't start either. If I ctrl-alt-del, it is in the task section, about five items down or so.

I have an Athlon 1 gig with Win 98 SE.

Any help here?

1 gig of memory with Windows 98 SE? If that's the case, that's the problem. Windows 98 cannot support above 512 MB ram and if something goes past that in usage, strange things occur. Either reduce your available memory to 512 MB, close some running programs to free up memory, or get Windows XP.

I think he's talking about the processor speed.

One idea to try is to get someone else to try to run your levels on their machine and see what happens.

Next item is to update to the new beta 6.40.2 and see if that helps. You can always go back to 6.31.4 afterwards.

... Why did I leave out the fact that, for Windows 98 users, you need the Microsoft Accessibility Kit? Anyway, download and install the Microsoft Accessibility Kit before using 3DGS.

A 1 GHz processor should work, however.

He did say he had been using 3dgs for quite some time now. So while it woudln't be a bad idea to install the kit, it's probably not the problem.

I think it's that he didn't pay the 3dgs memebership fee. 500 buck, payable to me, right now!

Uninstall, remove the registry entries, reinstall, update, then try your work again.

This is risky. If one edits the registry incorrectly, not only will 3DGS not work, but it could cause major problems with Windows in general. Take great care when doing so. To be on the safe side, avoid editting the registry.

However, do delete the entire GStudio6 folder (backup your work first, of which is not the case if you design your game in the "My Documents" folder or some other external folder).

Yes, obviously editing the registry is "risky". I make a few assumptions with certain people on various messageboards:

a) if you are a programmer, I am assuming you know how to edit/backup the registry

b) if you are a programmer, I am assuming that you won't go deleting keys willy-nilly

Unfortunately, I often forget what ASSuMEing does :\

Have you checked your scritp at all? I had a problem with my level because It was trying to run music and it lagged so bad I had to ctrl+alt+delete it. My level ran perfectly and everything, no script problems came up at start, no actions were currupt, so if you have music in your level check it out...
