what does a4 pro offer compared to a5 com 5.24?

i think 5.24 uses directx7 too, still has the software renderer and is much nicer than a4 (scripting-wise,...).

Well, it would be nice if we could use all versions below our current.
I own A6 Pro and could use A4 Pro - A6 Pro to reflect the client needs.

Long time ago I starded with A4 from Sybex but the restrictions with this old release were the main showstopper for me to even start using it for more than a month.

But the executables were sooooo small... 480 k for the exe alone

Well,
1. you can open the resources you made with lower versions
2. you can simply copy your acknex.wdf created with the pro into the a4 folder...

the wdf format indeed didn't change much since A3.
I was able to create a working (with A5.52) wdf file using wdfc.exe which came with A3 pro.

I have to agree 100% with this statement.
It would be nice to have all Lower Engine of
the same Version.

It does not matter "WHY" If customers of Conitec want it....
It should be provided.

Look at other software comapanies there are many
that offer older version on their site or at least
on request.

Sure I would probally never downgrade to A4 Commercial
but I "Should have that as an option"

Also in rare cases
(such as my own)
they might even loose money
buy not offering it!

Beacause the fact is I Would buy only
buy A6 Pro if I had this as an option.
"As is" they will never get another penny!

Just my thoughts.....

I can understand why people want to use A5... but wanting A4 does not make much sense to me. It has the same requirements as A5.24, but a lot (a LOT!) less features!

There is something called "mini games".
Those games are sometimes so small that you could send them per email, ...

Sometimes you just need an extra application to setup some options before you launch the main game. A4 is small enough.

Oh, do you remember MODEM or IPX support?... Yes, these things may be outdatet, but there are schools networks still using very ancient protocols on 10 MBit connections...

And ... NO! I would not permanently downgrade!
I would like to see it as an option to use it if I am in need to.

If I am not allowed to sell my older version - why should I not use it if it fits best to the problem?

Ok, I am not asking for myself...

My A5 (A5.52 - 5.24 probably is smaller) executable is 800kb big. This is about 360kb more than A4. Now that can't be the reason.

What I want to say: You can use A5.24 as well. There are no disadvantages.

If they re-release A4... hell yes, why not. But I see no use in that.
About networking: A4 multiplayer was bugged and certainly has more problems running on 10 mbit than A5.
