My checks are all matching yours.

The error appears to be in the inability of MT4 to read ZorroMT4.ex4 from the shadow folder even though I can clearly see it sitting there. This is occurring with downloads from two different brokers. Of course, this shouldn't make a difference. Just saying. It works on a previous Build 509 that was updated to Build 600. It does not work on a fresh Build 604 installation.

Unfortunately, I don't have much experience with this feature called "shadow folders" that everyone seems to be having so much trouble with. My understanding is that it only affects items in the "Program Files" folder. Can you try installing MT4 to just c:\ instead? That is the way IBFX does it now by default, probably due to the shadow issue...

Thanks for the suggestion, dusktrader. But I have done that also! I am not sure if my current problem is related to the UAC hitch that people have, but I really wish that whole UAC thing didn't exist.

Hey DMB,

A few things I've read about the downgrade of crapt4...

Open MT4 v600 as you normally do, then go to File --> Open Data Folder and everything is there - under the MQL4 folder mostly. Grab the working compiled copy of the Zorro EA from your v600 directory.

Crapt4 creates the shadow directory regardless of where you install, but you can get around that by modifying the shortcut, and adding the /portable switch to the end of the commandline. That will force crapt4 to ignore the shadow directory.

So, edit the shortcut to crapt4 v604 so that it will run in "portable" mode, then run it... Go to File --> Open Data Folder, and paste the working ZorroMT4.ex4 into the v604 Experts directory.

From what I've read, that should do the trick.

I've just about had enough of crapt4, and will try importing the ZorroMT4 EA source into ProTrader3, and running on their demo... If that works, then I'll be looking for a broker that supports ProTrader3.

Have fun!

Thanks for the suggestion, Radar. I tried this but still no joy. The EA is a working version. It is the MT4 that is broken and not reading it correctly. The tip on the /portable switch was useful.

I really want to downgrade to Build 509 or even Build 600 which also allows me to add the EA correctly. Unfortunately I have to go for a fresh install if I am to change VPS. Does anyone happened to have the install file for Build 509 lying around?

@jcl - the link from FXCM to download MT4 is the same whether it is FXCM Australia or FXCM Europe. I assume you used this link, downloaded a fresh vernon to install, confirmed that it was Build 604 and linked Zorro via the bridge(?)

It looks like there are some people on other forums who are ticked off about this upgrade not working for their EAs.

One thing you "should" be able to do is just zip up a working build 509 and unzip it onto your system (for that matter, probably just the terminal.exe file is all you need). MT4 can usually run from anywhere in my experience. Even if you acquire it from a different broker, you should still be able to change the server addresses to work with your broker.

But I thought MT4 had forced updates now -- doesn't that mean it would automatically upgrade itself upon startup of build 509? Or was there only 1 forced updated to build 500?

Here try this:

I put my MT4 build 509 terminal.exe in a zip file for you. I think if you just swap-in this, you will be on build 509 and it may also recognize all your settings.

If that doesn't work, I can zip up the entire MT4 folder. This is from IBFX but it should work with any broker if you adjust the server settings.

Last night I was googling for a Build 509 install when I came across a blog which discussed stopping the automatic upgrade and downgrading from Build 600. It included a zip of Build 509. It turned out to be an installed copy of the folder. So this morning I tried what dusktrader suggested. I zipped my working copy on one VPS and transferred to the new VPS. It worked. Zorro connected and is online.

So the MT4 on my home computer upgraded to Build 600 automatically. But the one on the original VPS did not. The one at home is regularly started and stopped. So it may have occurred during a start-up.

FYI - Info on stopping the auto update…

So problem solved for now. I guess I will test the new Builds as they come out until one works and then do a proper in tall then…or not.
