Hi JCL,

in our MM3D project we use the mouse_map command to set the cursor bitmap. As image format we use PCX and we have a black background for the transparency.

So far this works fine.

Now we have one single PC system where the black background of the image is shown instead of being transparent. On all other systems there's no problem at all.

Are there any known cases where this problem occured? Is there anything you can suggest? Our next step would be to switch from PCX to TGA (with alpha map).

Regards,
Pegamode.

I haven't heard yet of a 3D driver with such a bug, although it's certainly possible. Try TGA. If the bug only affects the 1555 image formats, it should work with TGA.

Please let me know the specifications of the 3D card and driver for our bug list.

Thanks for the fast response.

We'll switch to TGA and let you know if that worked.
I've also asked for the 3D specifications and will post them here once I got them.

@pegamode dont do anything, tell him to update, this version is old.
NEVER try to fix graphic bugs until you're up to date(thats my opinion)

As far as we know now all PCX files on this specific PC are affected. PNGs and TGAs with alpha channel are working fine.

To have the best compatiblity it seems to not use PCX files with auto transparency. But I'm with you that it's not possible to try to fix every single graphic bug that occurs on single PCs.

By the way ... can someone tell me something about PNG support. I read in the manual that PNGs are not suggested, because the display then depends on the DirectX version. Is this still something we should consider? Currently we have some PNGs in use as their creation is much more handy than using TGA.

--- new info (20.04.2012 12:29): after updating the gfx driver to 8.17.12.9610 everything works fine !!!

@Pegamode: Good, that it works now. Never worry as long as the system is not up to date. Updating doesnt solve everything all the time, but even driver programmer make mistakes.

It seems that this specific driver was shipped with Windows Vista. As long as someone uses Vista with this graphic card and doesn't update the GFX driver directly by downloading it on the NVidia website he'll run into this issue.
