This entry specifies the variable type and the name with which the variable is referred to inside the function. If the variable type is var, it can be omitted.

Hmm yeah, but isn't that rather for backwarts-compatibility to C-Script? I guess it would still make sense not to omit it in the examples in the manual.
Yes, but then every "function" keyword could be replaced with void/ var, too. I think replacing old school conventions should have a very low priority.
