I've been wondering this for a long time now.

I'm probably going to work mainly with Unity, but I'd also like to, when I have time, to play around with 3DGS. I still have A6 Com, so no direct way to upgrade. I'm still thinking on getting A8 Com, if anything.

Is it worth it?

Of course, A8 is going to get awesome, I know it. A8 Com is a nice "toy" if you're not short on money.

if you dont want to use it dont get it. "playing around" you can do with yourself.
if you want a stable and reliable engine the only alternative to a8 is the unreal engine.

but again, if you just want to waste time, you shouldnt get any of those things.

cheers

Blatt: If I get it I would actually use it. For small and simple stuff, but still.

Superku: Money isn't the problem, the problem is that whether or not it's actually worth it.

I think I will.. In a few months. It all depends if I have the time to work around GS.

A8 and A7 look and feel the same. If you do not need it don't buy it. Until today there are (except shadows, regions and the networking stuff) no big changes.

Firo: Free won't be enough if I start messing around it. I need shaders and plugins (I write some on my own). Also it'd feel very awkward to have restrictions you haven't gotten used to. I still have some projects I'd like finish, that require shaders (at least).

If you have projects to finish this is beyond "playing around".

i asked this questions myself too. and iīve done it. A8 feels much better than A6 and itīs more powerful.
i used the special rabate as A8 comes out, so that i have upgraded from A6 Com to A8 Com. I think this was the right decision. the only problem is that i have less time for it than i thought tongue maybe in the holidays i can focus on it...

in your case i would ask myself: "will i finish my old projects?" if the answer is yes, buy A8 and do it. if you have doubt, donīt do it.
