I am having a bit of trouble with the LOD working the way it used to work with map entities.
Models, sprites etc... work with LOD stepping as they should but map entity files will not step properly.
For example... if I have LOD step files created with _0, or _0 and _1 the stepping works well for models and sprites...
but with a .wmb file with only a _0 file, the entity remains no matter what my distance from the entity is... near or far.
Therefore, I wonder if this may be a bug or the LOD stepping has been removed for .wmp / map entity files???
This is occuring with version A7.85
Thanks...

That's right, in A7 only models can have LOD steps. Terrain, Maps, levels and sprites can't use external LOD models.

The reason is that in A7 maps and terrain have no defined distance to the camera, as they consist of many different meshes. LOD had to be calculated per mesh, which is only supported for terrain, but not for maps. This was different in A6 where maps and terrain were only single objects.

Sprites have 4 vertices only, so LOD steps makes no sense for them anyway.

JC,
Thank you very much for the response/verification.
The situation is then, just as I expected, not a bug but user error caused by my missing this knowledge in the manual.
Since I wrote the post, and assuming map entities no longer work with LOD steps, I found a work-around by exporting the prefab of blocks as an MDL7 file.
What was my map entity is now a model and therefore the LOD stepping works similar as with A6 map entities.
I am pleased with the export options in WED... thanks for adding that.

Say... I have been wondering if you received my e-mail inviting you and your team to download our Whistler project and let me know your thoughts???
Did you get that e-mail???
And if you reviewed the project... What are your thoughts???
Thanks again.
Regards,
Paul

Yes, thanks - we've got your email. It's certainly an impressive project, although we had not yet the time to review it in detail. But we'll look into it in the next time.
