Hi everybody,

I am a total 3DGS newbie and need some expert advice. At the moment I am experimenting a lot with the new car templates from George in the AUMs. What is quite mysterious to me is how to create a decent looking outdoor level, either a city level with roads or a wild terrain level. I read the forums up and down how other people accomplish this. And there are so many variants...

After all, there are two tools which seem to be well suited for this (and my limited knowledge): IceX and Freeworld3D. Especially Freeworld3D looks quite promising, however the webpage hasn't been updated for quite some time and is partly inactive. Since Freeworld doesn't seem to have a direct export interface to 3DGS... has anybody here used Freeworld to create some outdoor level with roads and successfully transfered it to MED/WED? Can you explain how you did it?

Unfortunately both Freeworld and IceX cannot export or save projects in the demo versions, so while you test the usage of the program there is still no way to see how it looks like when moving to 3DGS...:-(

I've found that the L3DT serves the game developer best.
L3DT can generating artifical terrain maps and textures (height, normal, light map) developed by Aaron Torpy. There is a free standard (it is free to use commercially) and a very reasonably priced professional version.
The best thing about L3DT is that it supports several modes of operation. You can set a few general parameters and let the program do all the work, and you can also manually edit your map and use a design map.

Hallo

Danke erste mal ich bin auch nur ein 3DGS Einsteiger.
Und hab mich gefragte wie ich eine Insel als Terrains erstellen.
Aber dank dir Rojart kann ich meine Insel erstellen.
Ich werde erste mal das Tutorial lesen und da mein Insel erstellen.

Hi rojart,

many thanks for your hints. I preferred IceX or Freeworld3D because of the comfortable functions for adding roads, but I hadn't seen the road tutorial for L3DT before. I guess I will give it a try.
Surely a big advantage of L3DT is that the standard edition has everything to test the complete workflow including the import to MED/WED. And you are right: The pro edition is priced very reasonable, especially for the non-commercial user!
