Hi all, long time no see Here are 2 pictures which represent a 3D model in a realistic environment. Both cars were first modeled in their original state (I think you all can guess which type of car ^^) and modified towards concept cars (XUV). The catch was that the models needed to fit inside their respective environment. This means materials, shadow casting and texturing. Qua dirt and snow, the textures aren't fully optimized but in the end the result was quite pleasing. Important to note is that the first model was made by the static modeler of our Facing Extinction Team. The second one was made by myself (For a bigger image: http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/1503/sandbeetlen.jpg) (For a bigger image: http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/1300/xds.jpg) Btw, for those who are interested, project Facing Extinction is still rolling All C&C welcome, Cheers Frazzle

Awesome. Just 2 things I'd change: -I would put in less scratches on most of the vehicle, and put more in certain areas that are endangered by flying stones etc (around the wheels?) see here how the bottom part is more dirty/rough/scratched: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/16001889I think the scratches on yours are a little overdone. -Put it a little deeper into the sand. Right now it looks too much like it's hovering a little above the sand and is really, really light. (At least that's what it looks like to me) Other than that, great work.

@darkinferno: This project was intended not to run within the game engine so those shots were indeed taken from inside the modeling program @Germanknol: Yes, the textures aren't fully optimized and there are better ways to handle it. The main problem with texturing high poly models is the UV layout. Manual UV layout isn't really an option (although it's possible). This project was fully related to high quality rendering (model based) thus both cars have +1500000 polies. In other words, we used alternative ways ^^ @Cowabonga: I get your point but the main thing for this project was the model itself. Nevertheless, color reference was used The following research is a good example: http://themotorreport.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/paris-dakar-rally.jpgCheers Frazzle

haha cool creations.
I like the afterburner-beetle most, but he's too muddy for a desert environment. :-D

Thanks for the input ShoreVietam (good to see you again ^^). Yes, the texture for that model isn't fully optimized which indeeds gives the car to much 'skin' Cheers Frazzle
