Sorry if this has been posted before..

No matter how hard I try, I can never get an FPS value higher than 512. Swapping to another computer doesn't work, neither turning VSYNC off. Is 512 the hard-coded limit?
I know that no-one will ever need FPS that high, just a question..

Don't even bother yourself. No PC needs to run a game with 513 FPS. wink

EDIT: Yeah!! I guess that's the limit. See the Shade-C thread:

The framelimit is probably related to
how Windows threats Threads,
or how many updates a GFX card can accept.

When I run halo 1 it goes at ~800 FPS, So i thought it was something to do with acknex..

Our local TV store is churning out 200hz flatscreens. Maybe one day they'll get over 512hz.. But that's irrelevant because we can only notice FPS difference up to about 120FPS.]

I think that if there's going to be a 'limit', it should be at 120fps

maybe acknex uses that minimum time per frame
to handle unwanted imprecisions.
A too big framerate could cause problems,
for example when using the frametime as factor in a calculation.

If the frametime gets too small, the factor might turn to
be zero -> crashing a function that depends ons positive numbers.

If you run an old 3D Dos game, it might crash, because they
calculate too many frames, wich messes up the calculations.

Anyway. 512 should be big enough...

I remember a time seeing 1200 or so...that may have been a beta, and it was more than a year ago so......irregardless it truly does not matter other than in terms of input...the human eye has trouble based on how many times a second it "absorbs" an image....I cannot see the difference between 60 and 512..but from 30-60 it is quite noticeable....again though this WILL affect input and responsiveness.

Everybody Poops.
here are some tutorials I made.

TV runs at about 30FPS. It looks fine. 120fps does look great with a game, but you don't necessarily need it. Most people could never notice the difference. 512, well that's just ridiculous. There's no need for a framerate that high. Maybe one day, a hardware developer with a sense of humor will develop a system which can run it like nothing. Then we will ask ourselves: "why?", lol...

Tv does not work the same way as 3D Engines.,
in TV 30FPS are enought to
see a fluit image.
In a 3D engine 30FPS dont look fluit in action games.
You need at least 60 to 70 FPS to see no difference.

But shure, FPS over 120 dont have much improvement.
There are not many games, where you would notice
a difference.

Games usually still don't use motion blur. That's one reason you need more FPS than with film or video.

The best FPS for games are 60 FPS.
