Some days ago, my Grafics card crashed (I don't know why, it just didn't work anymore). As long as I wait for a replacemant card, I had to built in an old matrox milenium 2 (4mb Ram), for keeping access to my mails as I can doing nothing else with it

Just for fun I opened a Gs project of mine and displayed a terrain with a shader version two multitexturing shader.
AND IT WORKED!

Ok the framerate was below 1, but the shader was displayed! On a propably 10 years old grafics card...

How can this be possible? Does there a software shaderemulation exist, that isn't based on the grafics card?

you probably used a FFP-Shader.. which is actually not really a shader.
They work on those old graphics cards, because they dont use any pixel-/vertexshader operations.

it would be astonishing if your card could run fallout 3. but gamestudio...

@broozar: Actually the only games I played in the last weeks was solitaire (with grafic errors and artifacts) and the good old lemmings (which run on any Pc that has at least 25Mb Main Ram... and VGA). . But I admit that I didn't try newer games so far, may be I should...

does gstudio enable emulated software shader support through dx now? because I know its possible to do, but should only be done for diagnostic/developer purposes because of the speed, but as far as I knew gs didnt support it.

Well 3dgs emulates atleast VertexShader when the graphic card doesn't support them. Pixelshader don't work though.

Didn't 3dgs have a software renderer using -s3d?

not any more, and not for shaders. maybe the multitexturing shader was a vertex shader with ff stages for blending?
