Well I hope you've all read about Cinema 2.0 by AMD. Probably the most amazing techniques on this sector in comparison to what else happened on this sector during the past years...

In addition to that it was reported that the trailers for "Transformers" (yes the movie) were rendered by a HD29000 XT graphics card at 1.280x720 giving about 20-30 fps (=pretty much realtime). A new HD4870 is reported not to drop below 60fps for this task...

Enjoy your meal

i don't think the uncanny valley is overcome. it still looks uncanny. but maybe technology like this can rival some hollywood botox faces soon. smile

Aaah very nice, but still... something... the eyes and lips are a tiny bitsy unrealistic.
So close to perfection ^^.

Oh, what does '(un)canny' mean?

Naw, not very impressed by this. I must admit that I have no idea how much of these animations get generated purely by this software. But I've seen far far better already in terms of realistic animations, also realtime.

I saw similar threads regarding this technology all over the game dev forums lately. But only here I found comments like "...looks uncunny", "..unrealistic", "..not very impressed".

I would like to see your animations wink

The rest of the world is excited about new technologies.

I personally think this will save a lot of time in the future. Most of the big game companies (Epic, Eidos etc.) are already customers of this company even though I believe the price will be quite high. But probably it is more expensive to pay for the 3d animator to make tons of facial animations.

that's not the point. some articles which referred to this video stated that the uncanny valley is overcome when it surely is not.

Lol, great job ripping my comment out of it's context... I quite clearly said that I had to admit that it's difficult to judge a technology based on visuals only, knowing little about what it does exactly in terms of generating animations.

I never said I could do it better nor do I NOT am excited about new technology. I just know I've seen better animations on cgtalk.com already and elsewhere even realtime stuff.

Also, Ventilator is right as far as the uncanny valley goes, the technology still has a long way to go before it's anywhere near ultra-realistic,

Cheers

(Geez, still at it. Get a room or a ring already.)

Excitement is not found here by default, for such 'new tech', and particularly when no obvious, moderately direct benefit is found in scope.
Granted there may be some trickle down economic residue.
Maybe, 'I'm' just too old, too cynical, too 'medicated', too ornery, to be excited about such things.
(Probably, not older than Frank though.)
