Cadiz, Spain, Realtime Plaza and Sunset....

Hello all,

Happy new year.

Here are some still screenshots I wanted to show of a realtime level I made in 3D Gamestudio. I want to show my clients and potential new clients how realtime 3d can be used for visualisation.

There are some tweaks I need to make on it tommorow, such as the corners in the skycube, driving me crazy!

All models were made in 3ds max with some 'dirtying' of the textures in zbrush.

The scene was made from sketch and references from photos from a trip to Cadiz, textures were made up of photos and 2d editing. I wanted to make the colours and lighting an evening light and spent a while in max trying to get it right.
I baked the textures in 3ds max using mental ray but the models are also slightly lit in gamestudio as well.

Very slight normals were added and Christopher-Blaesius helped to make it all workeable in gamestudio along with nice normal, specular bloom and sea shader and general interactivity programming.

I will eventually put the exe on here as a download but at the moment I want to hold it offline to market to clients.

The start screen is a bit vague, sorry.
If you wait for a while, it should then load to the environment and an interactive pop up menu.

If it doesnt do that, the reason is probably that your computer isnt the right spec or it wont work on your particular pc.

Thanks for feedback even if it doesnt work on some pcs, this way I can include this in the readme for any issues, etc. I hope you manage to get it working, Ill ask Chris B too.

I only see the interactive pop up menu then! Before that the start screen, and then only white...

My Specs are:
Pentium4, 3GHz, 1024RAM, Sapphire Radeon X300SE

I guess you have updated to the latest DirectX driver.
Ill ask Chris B when I get hold of him.
Beleive me it does work on most high end pcs, ive been getting people
to test.....

that water shader and sunrays thingys are awesome. The sun reflection on the water is cool. Never seen a water shader has good performance like your one. Blur on the menu is a ince touch. Only thing i can say is the building textures could be less blurry/higher quality. Rest is AAA work.

Glad to see someone got it to work.

Regarding the textures, if you look on image on the start screen that is how detailed they were in 3ds max. Unfortunately, Max had terrible errors when baking the textures, it completely messed up with artifacts over 1024 so I had to decide to just use that and not 2048 which I wanted to for many of the objects. I dont know if the bug was just my machine but on the autodesk 'area' forum others had similar problems.

I have the new version of max not yet installed, perhaps that wont have that problem. If I have the time and money, I will redo the level.

The light rays, blur, and sea shader were all done by Chris B. Who I would definitely recomend for programming and shading work and was very patient with a few colour tweaks I wanted in the sea etc.

Hi there,
Nice to see an update on that project.
I was looking forward to test out that exe file =)

It looks terrible fantastic, the models are clean and very impressive. Texturing is also ok, could be improved as you already mentioned.
The movement on my machine is fluently and stable.
I enjoyed spacing around the area and marveling the nice ocean and the atmosphere.
Just once, I got a strange behaviour, I was pulled up in the air after I had a collison near a corner.

The fly-like-a-bird mode is also very nice, would be much more cooler if the user would be able to control the flight.

Somehow, the cool sun ray effect doesnt work on my machine. But this is maybe because my craphic card is not up-to-date.

Here my system specs:

- P-IV 3 GHz
- NVIDIA GeForce 6800 256 MB of Ram
- Latest DirectX 9.0c and graphic card drivers

cheers and congratulations!
Keep up the good work!

The sunray version needs a Graphiccard with ShaderModel 3.0 support. Your's only has support for 2.0. Does the normal version work?

@zwecklos: Hm thats strange, it should work on your machine. I have no idea why it wouldn't work for you. frown

Here are the system requirements:
Pentium4 2ghz cpu or better
380mb system ram
graphic card with atleast 128mb vram and
Shadermodel 2.0 support (Nvidia GeforceFX and better, AMD ATI Radeon 9550 and newer)
(3.0 for sunrays (Nvidia Geforce6,7,8,9; AMD ATI Radeon X1000,X2000,HD3000; series)
