I'm wondering if there's a catch somewhere... it still doesn't make much sense. Is this something temporary just for the holidays or something?

yes, only till 31/12/2007.
there has been such a sale before, at the time when it's been released and carrara made the transition from 5 to 6 and eovia to daz.

Right, so the real catch is probably that you'd have to shell out money again for Carrara 7 which may be released sometime soon?

The current version already have alot of powerful features
against other expensive 3D softwares, it is a best price and
best buy software right now, why waiting for version 7 and
pay for the original price?

You'd have to pay a small amount of money to upgrade when
version 7 is out I think

@broozar, just curious.... do you get the refund?

May you animate a model , export it into 3dgs and make a avi file?
I have to be sure that is a viable alternative for animation.

I don't use Carrara, but yep I'm very sure you can animate and get your model into 3DGS. Though if you want to make an avi file (of the game, running?) you need FRAPS. If you want to make an avi file of your animation outside of the game, you should be able to do it in Carrara.

one letdown is the x exporter. no tweens between the bone keys are exported, so the model jumps from pose to pose without any interpolation. plus, it has a scaling problem, the animated model grows by ~300% all of a sudden when changing into animation mode. strange, as this doesn't happen when you import it in carrara. so it's a problem car<>3dgs.

please, could someone try the fbx export with 3dgs? i don't have a7, so i cannot check it. seems to work fine with other apps, but that scaling issue with x made me suspicious.

@vlau: yes, i got it. they cancelled my order and i ordered it anew, for the sale price.

Just try to export a primitive (with some simple keyframe animation)
to .fbx, no animation exported, sadly.

use bones. vertex animations are not exported, just apply a bone to the primitive, rotate the bone, and then retry to export. at least that's what their website says.

MED can freeze bone animation into vertex animation during fbx import, I think
