ive always wondered this. why in first person games do they have to add seperate hand models and legs so you can see them? why cant they use the main models arms and legs? and why in most first person games you dont have a shadow but when you go into 3rd person(oblivion) you have a shadow?

THX in advance

You can show your original model in first person when turning of CAMERA.GENIUS to NULL, but then you have to move your camera a bit before the head of your model and when you do a trace from the camera's location you have to set the player passable or on you and set the trace_mode right, because otherwise your player model would blocade your trace (even if move the cameraposition a bit forward). Besides the mouse_ent will be set every second frame (or something like that) to the player model when moving, because you move the player first and the camera has to follow. I'm currently trieng to get rid of these problems but I wasn't really successful yet. Therefore I think it's easier to do it the other way.

They use seperate models for changing the entity. Such as switching to different hands/attachments. OR, my favorite, for detachable body parts; Such as if you wanted to shoot the enemies arm off...

The main reason as that usually the player model is not as high definition as the up close view would demand.. so it would look bad in first person. You need a a special model that is much more highly detailed. Also the animations needs to be adjusted.

That said, some games do use the same model for both views, like Gothic 3.
