Minimap issue: Pixel-to-quant conversion - 07/11/16 23:09

Hello, everyone

I am making a minimap and I want to know if I took a screenshot of the level from the XY view panel in WED (from the top) like this one:

How to know the amount of quants in the real level that correspond to one pixel or vice versa at certain degree of zooming in XY view in WED? Also, if there is another decent way to make minimaps, then it would be better to explain it laugh

Thank you everyone and HAVE A NICE DAY!!

In the picture you need the pixel size and 1 room real size

here is a ex.. room that is 125px by 125 px, the ex.. actual sizes is 500 qu by 500 qu. the scale is 125px/500 qu

or 0.25 px per qu

or 500 qu/125 px
4 qu per 1 px

the map is then the same scale across the whole picture.

Note to other --> Please check my process/math

Take Care --

EDIT2 --> I believe the forum and AUM have many ways you can search for and I also believe there is a shader based solution...

You could e.g. place some dummy floor on the map that is the exact same size as your screenshot and than you can ingame check its xy coordinates and size and compare it with the pixelsize of the whole map.

Other ways for minimap:
- dynamic through VIEW
- screenshot from terrain and 2d icons for entities (like red dots for enemies), I believe this is how some rts games do it (e.g. use panels for that).
- iirc a shader one (probably by txesmi)

Do you use for my opinion, too many unnecessary blocks,
but nice map, laugh

The size of the grid is shown on the header of each view window.

Salud!

Thank you guys .. I did it .. but there is a problem with WED

Somehow I missed up with the View menu and the 3D view became like that:

Also, the 2D views were like that. How to restore them back? How to make textures appear again?

Thanks

Try right click on the view than 'render style' and select something else.
Or, View -> Draw Entities [...] and select something else.

View-> default

then select the 3d window. View->Textured or F7

If your windows are wrong close all but the 3d window (corner of window X)
View -> Add Views

Still problems..? View GXL Properties -> set all to default

Still issue?? Got me! I don't know

After ^ that still issues, restart WED (incase you already haven't). Still issues? Throw your coffee over your screen, smash your keyboard in your monitor and throw everything out of your window (pro tip: dont hit nearby pedestrians with it).
