sky scene covers other objects? - 01/03/16 16:36

Hi,

How come this covers any other normal entity/models in a map?:

Code:
ENTITY* background_ent =
{
  type = "background1.mdl";
  flags2 = SKY | SCENE | SHOW;
}

I thought the scene flag should prevent that? confused

yeah it does cover, I don't know why.
to make you "happy", sky box also has a similar (reported but unwanted to be unresolved) issue at about 0,71 (sqrt(2)) of clip far.

, can that be done through script? (/without WED?)

yes. I don't use WED at all.

Nice, so I quess 'sky_clip' is the value I need to set to 0,71 (sqrt(2)) of clip far, right? tia

no, that affects only sky domes. sky cubes are different, but they clip the environment not at clip_far, instead at 0.71*clip_far, but don't know why. if the sky cube is not transparent it is not disturbing, but if you sometimes remove or use the sky cube (e.g. when you create a world editor for a dead engine), you can see significant difference...

just a guessing but, may it be because of this?

or maybe because the corners of the cube are at clip_far distance so the center of the faces are at 0.71*clip_far because 0.71 ~= cos(45)...

Salud!

Lol, didn't think it was true before I saw a recent video of someone scripting in DOS with OpenGL... grin

PS.: It was amazing...

@txesmi: probably. but if it is the case, the sky cube size should be simply set to an increased distance.

@Epsilon: it is definitely different to be dead or insane grin

grin yeah.

Sorry for the off topic,
By the way, obscured by the pixilation and 256 colors, but this guy got the lighting so right (real-time radiosity), it was gorgeous.
