Can't install in windows 8 with compatibility mode - 07/21/13 11:04

Hi!
I'd love to try A8, but i can't get it to install. As per the suggestions I found on the forum, I've tried both Windows 7 and Windows XP (SP3) compatibility mode without any luck. I run the installer, it asks for my language, then complains that "Gamestudio A8 (8.40.3) is not allowed to run on WinNTx (6.2)". I'm running with Administrator privledges on Windows 8 - 64 bit.

Any thoughts?

usually it works when using compatiblity mode... maybe you should ask in the "Ask the Developers"-forum if nobody knows why it doesn't work.

Just to be certain, make sure that once you've gone to the gstudio8_setup.exe Properties > Compatibility tab and set the compatibility mode to "Windows 7" that you hit "Apply" and then "OK" just to ensure that the compatibility mode is indeed applied. The WinNTx (6.2) error should only occur if the program is running on Windows 8 without any compatibility mode.

Hi nobeard. I'm brand new to GStudio and I originally had the same problem - Windows8 64-bit - but CanadianDavid's approach worked for me, too.

I've _definitely_ applied the compatibility mode settings. I've tried pretty much every OS compatibility mode (windows 7, xp, vista, etc), I've even gone through the compatibility wizard to set the compatibility mode, all to no effect. Turning on "Run as Administrator" didn't help either.
*SIGH* I really wanted to try this engine too! frown

HA! Fixed it!
I started the program with admin rights and under windows 7 compatibility and waited until it asked for the language to use. Using process viewer I could see that the process was called Engine.exe
I then changed to the administrator account (the search didn't find anything as my non-privledged account) and ran a search across my box for engine.exe - found in application_data under a folder called SETUP_40459. Copied that folder somewhere else then logged back in to my standard account. Finished the unworking installer. Changed into my copied directory, changed compatibility settings on Engine.exe - run Engine.exe and it installs like a charm.
What an annoying workaround to get the thing to install!!!
