Good Multiplayer Games?

Hi,

My brother and me have had this problem for a while: The multiplayer games we used to play often are getting boring, we wanna try something different.

Can anyone point me to good multiplayer games that are fun, fast, not too expensive (possibly indie games?), replayable.
I'm thinking along the lines Warcraft 3: fun style and good multiplayer.

We used to play Age Of Empires 2, but it doesn't have to be strategy. Could be tactics. Coop would be cool but not necessary. RPG. anything fun.

No FPS if possible, my mother will kill me if I make my younger brother play those

Any ideas?

We used to play Titan Quest during lectures. This game is nearly endless (and there even exists an add on). You could compare it to Diablo 2. It's pretty cheap (10€ incl add on).

I suggest:

Starcraft - either Brood War or Wings of Liberty, both are excellent multiplayer games.

Doom - the original, that is. Get a sourceport like ZDoom or Skulltag, download one of the recently released megawads, and have some cooperative fun. Hexen also makes a great coop game, since it involves a lot of adventuring and puzzle solving.

Minecraft - fun game, good way to waste some hours. Start a private server on your LAN and have at it.

EDIT: oops. Doom and Hexen are violent FPS games, so nevermind. But the other games are still good options.

I would've said Age of Empires 2, but you guys already have it. Do you have the Conquerors expansion?

Magicka can be a bit buggy but is an absolute riot, and can be played multiple players on one PC if you have gamepads. It's got lots of on-your-toes strategy and is quite addictive.

If you want to play online with your little brother, and your parents
dont want him to play "KILLER GAMES", then
Minecraft is the coolest choice.

He can build your mother a nice Castle to show

Magicka and Minecraft

I often have this problem with my brother too. I kinda want torchlight multiplayer like games, i don't know why noone ever made it... it's just Diablo with WoW graphics, oh well.

We play some Borderlands again, but in your case it wouldn't fit.

So yeah:
- Magicka (you will laugh a lot :P)
- Minecraft
- League of Legends (free DotA game)
- Starcraft I+II
- Open Transport Tycoon
- Diablo 2 (or simliar, like Baldurs Gate, Titan Quest, ..)
- Trine
- The Settlers II

Diablo 2 is a must ! Very great to play... Played D2 + LOD Expansion with an friend... 6 Days later the game was over

Wow, lots of replies. Already started checking out a few of these games.

But I decided not to buy starcraft 2 right now. I really wanna play that game, but 60€ is ridiculous for a game coming from one of the hugest companies.

Trine has a multiplayer mode? O.o funny. I have that game sitting around here. Good game. But I never thought about playing it mutliplayer.

I want there to be a little more action than the average browsergame has, so that won't do. But I think I'll try Magicka and maybe C&C. Maybe Titan Quest as well...

Oh, I know that. I like to play Minecraft, Banjo-Kazooie, Smash Bros. Brawl and Rabbids go Home with mine... Having a girlfriend who's into gaming kicks ass.

Multiplayer: Minecraft is awesome, and please, DO give Spellforce (1 and 2, dunno which part is better, they're both awesome.) a try, you won't regret it. You should be able to grab both Spellforce titles including every addon for about ten bucks each. Which is an extremely good deal, considering the incredibly long and exciting singleplayer campaign AND the teriffic multiplayer...

Mincraft is much more in depth than your typical browser game. You really need to give it a whirl.

Oh gosh. Loved the link, but... that voice reminds me of games like Crysis. And it's a real army's site. That's just... sick.

Good test though. Liked it. The color/shape combination was pretty hard.

COD:MW and COD:MW2 are the best multiplayer games I've ever played!
Also Insurgency mod for Half Life 2 is great.

Nah, don't have to be non-violent. Just rated something that my brother (13) can legally play.

command and conquer generals was pretty funny too, you should get it including the expansion set for 5-10 bucks
also, Soldat, a free 2D sidescroller shooter probably abstract enough to not piss off your mother -> www.selfkill.com

Another really nice multiplayer game is Alien Swarm. It's free and AFAIK you can turn blood of (like in other Valve Games).

It's really great, has many free map-mods. Up to 4 players
