Yes, I've taken this to every single forum I've ever visited. It's been either bashed, ignored, or fully embraced by the community. Which side are YOU on?
Have any of you guys ever tried making "Engrish" with the Google Translator?
Essentially, you write a grammatically sound sentence (or two) in English. Run the translated sentence through the translator again, and then run the sentence you get back, etc. etc.
When you've done this a few times, translate your sentence BACK into English. What you get is complete nonsense
For example:
"Duke Onkled is under attack by the evil forces of Ganon! I'm going to Gamelon to save him.
But father, what if something happens to you?
Enough! My ship leaves in the morning. I wonder what's for dinner?
Oh boy! I'm so hungry, I could eat an OCTOROCK!"
And now:
"Onkled Duke is attacked by evil forces of Ganon! I'm going to Gamelon to save it.
But Father, if there is something for you?
Enough! My ship leaves in the morning. I wonder what's for dinner?

News Report: And today we report the demise of the Gamestudio forum, which has been a long standing game maker forum of high repute. Sadly it has now degenerated to, well there is not yet a name for the depths that it has sunk to.....
The go-off-topic topic is a humor thread I started that pokes fun at the forum rule that requires users "stay on topic". How can one stay on topic if the topic of the topic is to go off topic?
I once took a large bite into a fresh lime. My face felt like it was going to implode.
lol, Dutch often sounds like a hardcore version of a German slang: "Was ist das? Ich raff hier nichts von, warum gehen all die Menschen off-topic...oh, sollte es wohl nicht in Niederländisch posten, ach, das ist eine Form von off-topic gehen :P" English: "What´s that? I don´t get it, why are all these people going off-topic...oh, shouldn´t post it in Dutch, ach, that´s some kind of going off-topic :P" Am I right with my translation?^^

EDIT: so did my gf. (and she was disgusted by me posting this so I thought i'd put a disclaimer that I was kidding and there was really no coming involved)
Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

This topic's only 2 pages for me, since I've changed my preferences. Pages are annoying. If I wanted pages I would read books. But I don't. That's not to say I haven't. I have read books. We used to have 26-odd Star Wars books, and I read through all of those. And I mean novels, not colouring books. That's not to say I have something against colouring books. People place too little weight on the importance of colour. Or sometimes they just misunderstand the use of colour. I remember someone posted a behind-the-scenes video from Killzone 2 of their nuclear explosion, and the soldier is like "And always, always colour-correct your scene", to which I responded with a little lol. While the whole "I'm almost monotone" look suited Killzone 2 to a degree, too many games suffer from going for this look. The closest thing to colour correction that can be used as a general rule is Tone-mapping, and even then it's not always necessary since so many styles still don't need HDR. Colour-correction has its place for certain other effects as well (such as making a distinction between flash-backs and dreams and the real world, as well as some more specific uses if the goal is to emphasize certain colours in certain areas), but generally if you want your scene more yellow, use yellower light. If you want it more contrasted, reduce the ambient. But colour correct the whole scene? Going between a colour-corrected yellow tint to a blue tint is a fade, whereas going from a yellow-lit area to a blue-lit area with no colour correction allows you to see them side-by-side and appreciate (and even enjoy) the contrast between the two. Of course, it could easily be said that the emphasis on colour correction always was not actually such an emphasis, but add to his "I'm an angry over-the-top marine" character. As generic as that character is, at least it was solid, though. On the other hand, how many games have we played where the voice actors are terrible? I mean, they don't have to be great. My brother was playing Red Steel today -- don't frown on us, we just got a Wii and Red Steel was a bargain $10, so we had to at least give it a try -- and you can tell that the voice-actor's vision for his character was different to the script-writer's. Which was also different to the animator's. The character hardly moved, sounded like a tired recital, but the script clearly indicated someone with an animated sense of humour, friendly enough to make you feel comfortable around him straight away. If it's too much effort to have him audibly match the expectations of the script writer, don't! Let our imagination fill it in! That is: just have us read the text, like in many Nintendo games. The voice acting may be lacking, but the words alone fill out the character!
hell yeah.... this was one i still wish i had finished. I got really far on it and my hdd crashed. At one point I did have another working prototype (not nearly as far as the first) that had dynamic internet based advertisement textures ingame for a advertisement supported game. never finished that and would like to try again sometime, but with my morpg i cant.

I found a(n) (expensive) workaround for the problem that Acknex can´t render bitmaps wich are larger than screen size. This f.i. can be used to make huge screen shots of an arbitrary resolution. Another application is activating SSAA wich can be used together with post processing effects like here:
they DID show muhammad in the original version, but comedy central censored it. they even bleeped everytime somebody said muhammad's name. they already got some threats. episode 200 and 201 aren't available at southparkstudios.com anymore.
looking foreward to cowabanga's opinion on that. (he's from turkey after all, so i GUESS he's muslim... please correct me if i'm mistaken)
so now back to topic, which is off topic: WHAZZUUUUUUUUUUUP!!
cowabanga is from suadi arabia i guess, but yes he is a muslim. I am the one from Turkey, and i am muslim, and i did not watched it, i have no opinion on that nor i really care. (It's a good thing they censored it, but they could do it better i presume.)nobody cares really much about it here only i saw it on the news that muslim society did not like it and shown reaction. You see facebook shutting down the lite.facebook.com stood longer in the front page of the news pages.
But yeah that sutff is sensitive,i do not think Christian society would like it if that if they have shown the Jesus as bear of Jewish comuunity would like it if they have shwon the Moses in that costume.
Jesus gets loads of trash from western media, even though a huge proportion of Americans call themselves Christian. Of course, there are people who react in outrage, but I think most just ignore it.
mkay, thanks for your opinions. still, jesus, buddha and krishna get pictured in south park a lot. (like buddha doing cocaine, jesus beating little ginger children and so on) and they NEVER had to censor a single episode of south park because of that. i am well aware that there are some christians who ARE offended by that n shit, but i think it's still redicolous to censor comedy because of some fundamentalists. this is just out of fear and intimidation. which i find creepy. or sad. or most probably both.
further discussions about that issue per pm (if desired, which i doubt), i don't want to spam the spam thread... oh my, that sounded weird.

Furthermore, I do not believe that Acknex is based off of the Quake source code... Correct me if I'm wrong.

It's just a re-arrangement of all the strokes/lines in "1+1="
nah im not into grunting melodyless blasting death metal. i like me a melody, catchy beat and a very nice line of vocals... like "The Agonist" or "Arch Enemy"...
i cant stand the vocal performances of those bands. this shouting manly at all costs approach is not to my liking. same goes for the, and this is not biased its musically correct, very simple and boring standard riffs without any life...
sure thing, its nice to party, but musically speaking its simple. however, when i was your age, i liked that too (no offense)

Prison Song - System of A Down 8. Swinging The Dead - DevilDriver 9. Stealing Society - System of A Down 10. Dead to the World - Nightwish
I find it impossible to make such a list since the order changes depending on my current mood. Another reason is the amount of different genres I listen to.

However, the best way to gain absolute access to metal festivals: Learn playing an instrument or singing (uhm - or growling...) , create a band and become a metal star...
"Moshen" isn't as dangerous as it looks - it's even more dangerous. And playing an instrument does have nothing to do with your brain, so no problem there... Especially in metal, it's just "brain off" sometimes.
Ahm, oh, Slin, that would be the right moment to plug in some delightful music then I guess? I though hope you're not fucked up by ME. Regarding my usage of smileys, I probably would...
delightfull music, hm... My favourite song at the moment is "Erhelle meine Seele" by "Die apokalyptischen Reiter". But I also like "Endzeit" by "Heaven Shall Burn" a lot as well as nearly all songs by Nightwish and Epica (especially live are they just awsome).

That's pretty delightful. In my ears, Nightwish are a bit too, hm, "epic" - more like a movie soundtrack, I prefer the garage feeling, though they are without any doubt great artists. Dont know Epica, but I guess they go in the same direction.

Sounds promising. Too bad I wont have much time to program in the holidays (ya, I got some, too ). Im in the USA during the first three weeks, and the last three weeks are filled with kind of a, well, "Teststudium"....
Math Rock (from Wikipedia): "Math rock is a rhythmically complex, guitar-based style of experimental rock that emerged in the late 1980s. It is characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures (including irregular stopping and starting), angular melodies, and dissonant chords."
I am not sure if I am serious about that idea. It just came to my mind somewhere this evening and I didn´t yet really decide for or against it. If one could create something like that with only experienced users, it could probably be a great thing for everyone. As one could work out ressources and tutorials for the whole community within a small but kinda professional environment and one could get help with more complex problems easier as it wouldn´t dissappear too fast between all the small problems coming up on these forums.
What kind of "teststudium", or what exactly do you mean with that? And where?
You could also say "Schnupperstudium"; I'm not quite sure what to study after school - of course I'd love to study gamedesign, but it's really expensive, and people like Zapan already told me that it probably isn't the best way to get into games industry, so I decided to take part in an offer at the MDH Düsseldorf. It's like a three-weeks study course, all with final project and stuff.

Well then, now seriously. How big would the interest be in a closed cummunity with only members of a certain experience, focused on but not only gamestudio? Everyone should have the possibility to read the posts, but only members are allowed to post, so that one could hopefully discuss complex topics and problems at an a lot more professional level than it is the case on these forums here. Also serious problems wouldn´t get lost between "Make me my MMORPG" and "DX9 or why gamestduio looks like crap" (okay, these titles are too intelligent, even though senseless, but you should get the idea). In such an environment, it would probably also be easier to provide ressources for beginners at a very high quality. It would probably very programmer oriented, but I still think that would should also get experenced designers and modellers into the project, as they usually have a very different and often helpfull view of things.
depends. those boards often drift into oblivion pretty fast, for they are postless for days and then people lose interest.
id be in from an artistic point of view, if thats okay.
on the topic of music (prety much on topic for an off topic thread) with modern tools, all you need is SOMEBASIC KNOWLEDGE about music, harmonics and of course a feeling for it to create music or be in a band. i can do vocals. i cant sing but i can talk and scream, and that, very well. also, i have a natural gift for creative use of a song structure. i wont write the next superhit, but for someone who has no idea compared to a pro out there, im doing very good. if youre interested, check fruity loops, its always a good place to start. and read about midis and VSTi Plugins
Say that a woman and a man (who are unrelated) each has two children. We know that at least one of the woman's children is a boy and that the man's oldest child is a boy. Can you explain why the chances that the woman has two boys do not equal the chances that the man has two boys?
My algebra teacher insists that the probability is greater that the man has two boys, but I think the chances may be the same. What do you think?
The man could have impregnated more than one women and doesn't have to wait 9 month after that, so theoretically, during his lifetime he can make more children (and more boys) than the woman.
Sorry, but this does not make too much sense. At least not the circles and your conclusion.
If I see that right the first branching is for the first-born child and the second for the second-born.
In this case, the "boy"-case in the first branching has a chance of 100%, because we already know it's a boy. So we don't have to consider the "girl" case, because its propability is 0%. On the next-branching you have a 50%-chance that the second child is also a boy. You have to multiply it with the overall propability of this branching, which is, as I said 100%, so the resulting propability is 50%.
On the woman tree, we have at the first branching a propability of each 50%. If we follow the boy case, we have again a 50% propability for each case. So the propability of having two boys is 50%*50% = 25%. If the first-born child is a girl, the propability is 0%, so we don't have to consider this branch. So the overall propability is 50%.
BUT WAIT!
We didn't consider that we know that one of the woman's children is a boy. So we should not talk about "first-born" and "second-born" children, but just "first" and "second" child, because it doesn't matter in which order they are born. Because the propability of the man having two boys doesn't change if we say that his second-born child is a boy and the first child's gender is uncertain, the propability doesn't change. So, we can say the same thing about the woman's tree as we said about the man's tree, which will also result to 50%.
So the propability that he/she has two boys is 50% for each of them.
For each person (the man and the woman), there are four possible outcomes of equal likelihood.
In the man's case, we already know the first child is a boy, so we only consider that branch. There is a 1:2 chance of having another boy, and thus a 1:2 chance of having two boys in total.
In the woman's case, the only outcome we know will not happen is girl-girl. Taking that out, we're left with three outcomes of totally equal likelihood, and only one of those is boy-boy, thus she has a 1:3 chance of having two boys.
The problem of your way is that the three possibilities for the woman are no Laplace propabilities.
The propabilities are like this: B-B: 50% B-G: 25% G-B: 25% G-G: 0% (which is not easily seen in your way)
What you need are Laplace propabilites, so you can add all cases where you can add all cases that meet the requirement (two boys) and devided them by the total number of possibilities.
And I'm not over complicating things. Only in the last paragraph of my last post I'm explaining MY actual (easy) solution: For both, the man and the woman, we know that one child, which we can define as the "first" child is a boy. So we just have to look at the last branch, and there we have two possibilities: "boy" or "girl", which both have a propability of 50%. Only if the second child is also a boy, we have two boys, so the propability of having two boys is 50% for both.
(Believe me, I'm working on a program that calculates propabilites of Poker hands in certain situations in Texal Hold'em with trees like you tried to make and for 5 and 7 closed cards my results are those that are on Wikipedia.
first child of the man is boy this is certain, second being boy is 1:2 possibility. (man's possibilities BG and BB = %50 BB)
woman's children's genders are unknown. possibility of the first child to be a boy is 1:2, possibility of ALSO the second child being boy is 1:4.(woman's possibilities = BB,BG,GG,GB = %25 BB)
if the one is boy, possibilites are BB BG and GB = 1:3
The propabilities are like this: B-B: 50% B-G: 25% G-B: 25% G-G: 0% (which is not easily seen in your way)
The reason it's not "easily seen" in my way is that this is incorrect.
Under normal circumstances, if the woman has two children there are four possible outcomes: b-b b-g g-b g-g Each outcome is equally likely, that is 1:4.
Damocles' challenge says that we know one of the children is a boy, so we eliminate the fourth outcome: b-b b-g g-b Each with a 1:3 likelihood.
Exactly one of those outcomes is that the woman has two boys. Accordingly, the probability of the woman having two boys amongst two children given that she has at least one boy is 1:3.
Jibb
EDIT: @Quadraxas: Actually, the challenge states that at least one of the woman's children is a boy.
It shows that you are actually right and I was wrong, but I still don't see why. This seems pretty strange to me, because that "three possibilities" argument is not quite valid in my eyes. Still, the propability seems to be 1:3.
You can try the program I posted while I reread your and Quadraxas' posts and rack my brain about this...
Ok, I think i finally understood it now. I made a diagramm of it:
As I found out when making the C++ program, I found out that I can make a "normal" tree to see the overall propabilities and rule out those that do not meet the requirements. Then I can divide all other propabilities by the remaining propability which results to 33.3%.
But I wonder if this is valid. Because I still think the information that the child that is a boy is the older one shouldn't make any difference. But Damocles teacher said it and he's got authoritah...
Now it doesn't try all possibilities and eliminate those that are known to be false in the first place, but first decides which child is the child that is known to be a boy and randomizes the other child. This seems more like it's valid, so I believe again that the propability is 50% for both, the man and the woman.
That's kinda what I was going for, but my illustration is really vague and inconsistent
Also, the older one being a boy doesn't make a difference in the end. The sequence only matters for the man's situation, which we agreed upon from the get-go, and if it instead said that the younger child had to be male we'd still get the same probability for the man.
@Pappenheimer: "Both boys" has a 1:4 chance since it can only be accomplished in one way, but "Half boy, half girl" has a 1:2 chance because there are two ways to accomplish it: Boy-Girl, and Girl-Boy (try not to look at this as a sequence, but as an indicator of two unique bodies that may be one sex or the other).
Jibb
EDIT: Posted while you posted. Reading your new post now.
If I was right before, and I consider all three possible outcomes (BB, BG, GB) equally likely like I did right at the beginning, this suggests that there's only a 1:3 chance of any particular child being a girl, which doesn't sit right with me.
Alternatively, if we say that the likelihood of any one child being a boy or girl is equal unless the conditions of the challenge prohibit it, we get this new tree:
Which suggests only a 1:4 chance of getting two boys from the woman. Of course, this doesn't sit right with me either.
So now I try to unthink everything and go back to the beginning, ignoring the man's situation:
The woman has a boy. She has one other child.
What are the chances that she has two boys?
This is the same as, What are the chances that her other child is a boy?
That is an obvious 1:2 == 50%.
By considering the man's situation I was fooled into considering order for the woman's situation, which is actually irrelevant if I read the question ignoring the man.
So I think you are right

EDIT: @Hummel: Boy do I wish I had the motivation. I just removed Sculptris from my computer since not only was it crashing regularly, but a whole bunch of other problems with my otherwise-flawless computer cropped up around the same time I downloaded it, so I'm feeling particularly loathsome towards it. At the same time, I miss having a sculpting program with a "crease" tool.
There are no probs which seem to be related with Scultris here, well in fact I have absolute no probs anyway Btw, what is the crease tool good for? As I remember right the guy in this video used it for sculpting lips, right?
Ok, preasumption, getting a boy or a girl is each 50%
So for the woman we know she does not have 2 girls. And at least 1 boy.
This makes the woman have these chances for having such kids:
1/3 - B B 1/3 - G B 1/3 - B G 0 - G G (exluded from beginning)
So having 2 Boys is a chance of 1/3
----
For the man, we know he has 2 children. One of them is a boy (one of the slots), but thats unimportant, as we only care for the other one. (wich is independant)
And for the other child to be a boy it is 1/2 chance.
that's no argument, you could also say the woman has at least 1 boy. the chance for the other kid to be a boy is 50%. so she has 50% chance of having two boys.
the problem is that you're mixing slots and the age thing. in my notation the first is the oldest child.
woman: 1/2 - b ? 1/2 - ? b which gives 1/4 - b g 1/4 - b b 1/4 - b b 1/4 - g b
i have two balls, either red or black. at least one of them is red. the probability that the other ball is red is still 50% (why should it be 33%?). so the total probability is 50% for both balls to be red.
No, you don't have to consider the order of the balls. As I said, you always need Laplace propabilities, and this way you don't get them.
You can arbirarily say that one ball is the "first ball" and the other is the "second ball" (because those are only names). So you have a 100% propability that the "first ball" is red because you already know it's red and a 50% propability that the "second ball" is also red. So you have a 50% propability of having two red balls.
Or let me put it in this way: What if I tell you, there is a ball and it has a 50% propability of being red. Now imagine I tell you there is an other ball that is certainly red and tell you that both balls form a pair. Would you say the propability of this ball being red decreased to 33.3%?
I don't know much about this stuff but i would say it is an 50% chance too.
In your ball example: I wouldn't consider RB and BR as a different possibility. If you say one ball is red, the other one can be either Red or Blue, which is 50/50. You can't consider the BR case anymore as you know the first one is R so it will be Rx where x is wether B or R.
Many years ago my teacher gave me this probability theory: You have 3 cups infront of you and in one of those cupse is a marble. Now you pick a cup, and you have a 1:3 chance to get the right cup. After you chose a cup, the gamemaster is so kind to show you one of the cups that doesn't have the marble and takes it out of the game and asks you if you wanna stick with your cup or choose the other one.
So now it's always smarter to switch to the other cup cause suddenly your winning chances are 1:2. We tried this in many games and your winning chance IS higher when you switch in the second turn.
Maybe some of you (german speaking people) remembers "geh aufs ganze" and there you often has 3 envelopes and two had the Zonk (the bad price). They always let you choose one and sometimes say "ok i give you a hint, this one is a zonk and i'll take it out".
So like inthis example, if you take out one envelope, you take out a possiblity so your chances increase to 1:2. I think it's the same with the balls. If you say the one is R, then you actually can't consider the case BR and BB.
Actually, your winning chances would even increade to 2:3. (Which is more logical because 1:3 + 1:2 = 5:6 < 1)
I heard this proplem as "Ziegenproblem" and the "Zonks" were goats. The propability of the remeaining cup/envelope/door increases because it COULD have been a zonk/goat/nothing but it hasn't shown to be one. So if it's not the one you chose it's the remaining one and the propability that it's not the one you chose is 2:3. It look a long time for me to figure that out, until I wrote a program that solves the propgram statistically and while looking at the code I understood it.

i have two choices: go to bed and watch something or: rewrite the my whole game, cause somebody (YES, SPIKE, I AM TALKING BOUT YOU!! *sarcasm*) wants to have controller support, while all functions are mouse based at the moment ...
damn, any chance to use controller as mouse with button as mouse_left via plugin?

In this case nobody who can´t understand German would be really interested about what we are talking, I guess. The alternatives would be to make either an extra thread for the vid or translating it into German. This wouldn´t be worth the effort imo
Btw: just about 1 day and 2 hours left until Nintendo´s E3 press conference

Good thing im Dutch and had 4 years of German at school I can read most topics basically
I wonder now... why doesnt someone here start a thread to learn German to non-German speakers from the board... that way they can educate people, and maybe the language barrier will be smaller
Larry Page and Sergey Brin of google also had their base salary cut to $1 I believe. Doesn't really matter when they both have $17.5 billion each, lol.
@beret, why did he become so bitchy recently? Lol.
Sorry bout the german language - but i just found this - i had to laugh

if one of you guys is in need of a new engine feature you should seize the chance and post it! I´m not sure what happend to jcl but perhaps he just has had good sex this morning
haha thanks! Pretty tiring and frustrating day today, so i thought why not pitty party in the off topic thread a bit...haha well that just made my day =]
It looks cool and its ability to balance itself is impressive. But the motor required to run the thing makes too much noise. With those things around, you can pretty much forget about stealth.
Also, those robots don't have arms. They can carry stuff on their backs, but live soldiers would have to load them up themselves. This would make it impossible to send one of these things out under fire to pick up some wounded marines.
But like I said, it's still some pretty impressive technology.
The noise is simply caused by the Gasoline-engine.
In a stealth scenario they could use batteries (as full or part-time energy source)
Impressive is the ability of the robodog to keep upright in a very unstable position. Not like these japanese human-bots who are build to have low instability. (big feet and such)
The bobodog itself is not really useful yet (a dirtbike or quad is a better choice) But the technology itself is impressive at that stage.
--
The second bot is impressive for using such a very simple solution, and actually revinventing the wheel.
This would make it a much better system for outer planetary rovers, that the classic rigid wheels.
When making these "flaps" to change between an open and closed (wheel) form, you could even seamlessly change between a driving and walking behaviour.
For goodness' sake will it hurt ya if you'll post in English?
@Sylar: Yes, it's a multi-language forum, but if a thread started with a language, it should continue with the first language used. Go check the forum rules again.
Id cut off your balls and feed them to you for breakfast, but you dont have any...
i consider this to be testworthy today for the next asshole who talks about my stab wound while he was sitting over there looking dumb instead of calling the fucking police-.-
what does this remind me of....wait.... OOOOOH, NOW I REMEMBER.

Most used word in Read or Die (an epic anime, if you haven't seen it yet, GO WATCH IT! The movie (splitted in 3 parts) and the show called "R.O.D. TV")
The first two parts of the Death Note are really great. (the third is not the spectacular)
There are also some other nice Japanese series with Kimura Takuya like "Mr Brain" http://wiki.d-addicts.com/MR._BRAIN and "Change" that Ive really enjoyed.
EDIT: I may need to know for an oral exam how to solve the following (type of) differential equation:
y' = y^2 + 2y + 2, y(0) = 1
Does anyone know how to proceed?
Here goes (...in german)
Please be aware that I am not a mathematician, and I'm not trying to be one. So I'm fully aware of the fact that this is sloppy at best and possibly wrong at worst, though it does give the correct solution. Anyway, at the very least, it helps a little.
Another thing: While this way of Seperation of variables works very well for this kind of differential equation (always a good thing to try when you only got one derivative), this way of writing it is not quite mathematically precise and correct. So depending on your professor, you might want to present it differently
Well, I like ElfenLied, Neon Genesis Evangelion (ofcourse XD), The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, K-ON!, ToLOVERu, Magister Negi Magi, He is my Master (no, its not porn), sometimes Lucky Star and also Gurren Lagann XD
OK, was ist denn c?
I just had a nasty trojan or virus on my Vista PC:
After running several virus and spyware programs, i found out (indirectly by cheking for an automatically called website) that i had a TDSS rootkit Virus.
Its not detected by virus programs (for no sensible reason) Since there is a program that can detect and remove them:
bin jetzt wieder seit zwei Stunden wach.
I hate it when every topic started on this board turns German! I really feel Conitec should make a single language (English), instead of bi-lingual forum... It pisses me off, seriously
You know, speaking german just to annoy others is really not as funny or clever as you think it is.
Instead, "childish" might be a fitting adjective.
Now, I'm not sure if you're going to reply in english or go the truly hilarious extra mile by replying in either german or a mix of languages like above (or possibly another language). But whatever the case, it's probably not going to be funny, either. But hey, keep trying!
I´m sitting in a so called 'society-service-school'. This place is probably the origin of all boredom, you dont learn something and you got nothing to do at least we have an internet connection...the next town is called 'Schleife' which is German and can be directly translated to English: loop
Just created a Shadow of the Colossus wallpaper since I was not able to find a good one. Amazing game, from the beginning till the very end. I removed some emulation artifacts and added the DoF Blur to the hero. The stunning rest is original in-game rendering.
EDIT: just took a look and actually found an other very good one
newest pcx2 version using all speed hacks can run SotC on a good PC with almost always playable frame rates but you get a lot artifacts in some scenes...all in all it´s playable. I´m looking forward to see how the PS3 version will push this game to the next level.
EDIT:
I used the mighty anisotropic kuwahara filter to give the scene a more abstract look. Also I increased the contrast and added glow to the eyes. I´m not sure whether the guy who created the wallpaper I mentioned before created the lettering I also used for this one by his own..I think I´ll try to contact him.
Also check this awesome piece of music. That´s the music which starts when you finally managed to get on a coloss.
I´m pretty happy with the result since the focus lies on the colossus and the almost white parts give you the possibility to place your desktop icons there without hiding the image´s awesomeness. First I invested a lot time in adding dark fades to the left and right borders which fit the structure of the pic but when I placed it on the desktop I recognized that it frames the scene and therefore destroys this 'wide' atmosphere. Also this version is much more dynamic thx to the motion blur and has light shafts. But thx for the criticisms.

Just found a nice addition to Firefox, called "Flashblock"
Its ment to block any flash-player content to play unless you click the start button. Very nice to speed up your browser, and avoid nasty adds. Look for add-ons in the firefox plugin search.
(SBU) Chancellor Angela Merkel nominated Baden- Wuerttemberg (BW) Minister President Guenther Oettinger as EU Energy Commissioner primarily to remove an unloved lame duck from an important CDU bastion. The move was not the promotion of a valued colleague as Merkel's allies sought to portray it. Rather, Oettinger's increasing loss of party support in BW compelled Merkel to push Oettinger out to protect her support base there. Oettinger is noted for a lackluster public speaking style, and some commentators have asserted that Merkel, who has often stood out at EU meetings, wanted to appoint a German Commissioner who would not outshine her.
2. (SBU) Germany has a time-honored tradition of sending unwanted politicians to the EU Commission, although departing SPD EU Industry Commissioner Guenter Verheugen proved his worth during his tenure. Oettinger has criticized Merkel for her policy stances (on federal support to Opel and on generous subsidies to the former eastern states, for instance) and her purported lack of leadership while antagonizing other influential CDU leaders. In addition to being a poor public speaker, he has a tendency to put his foot in his mouth.

Its much more interesting than reasing normal Newspaper comments, as its related to people who are really into the matter.
Btw: Germany took up 7 Guantanamo Inmates, and ist still paying huge amounts of developing Aid to China (as if China would be a developing country...) And there are still US nuclear weapons stationed in Germany..

I tried posting again and I couldn't see my second post until I deleted the first. It seems there is some kind of artificial limit for the number of posts you can see in one thread at a time.
I don't know, but this might spell the end of this thread.
I have a friend in South Africa who made something like that, only it's software based and thus isn't a "shader" in the common sense of the word at all (although it does draw texture mapped spheres). In his own words:

[The Texture Mapping] works by projecting the sides of a cube onto the sphere, and then mapping the U/V coordinates on the sphere (which are acquired along with the normal vector) directly to the X/Y coordinates of the cube face. This is a very fast method of texture mapping, but the trick is to find the correct face. In this implementation, the sphere is divided into 6 curved surfaces, found by cutting the sphere with 6 great circles. Each surface is then individually mapped with its own texture."
Sounds like he is using simple cubic environment mapping to project the textures on the sphere. The point of the technique I used on this 'cube' is, that you can theoretically add it to any arbitrary shaped model. The result depends on the triangle topology of the object only. As you can see the first version is a simple wireframe texture following the edges of the polygons. The second one draws lines which connect the midpoints of the triangles. The bottom versions are basicly combinations of the first two.
So I woke up yesterday ok, and then as the day wears on I begin feeling really cold and weak. No sore throat or nose issues, just complete weakness. The same thing happens today, where I start up ok and then plummet.
So now at 8:00 PM in the evening, I find out I have a fever and a body temperature of 101.7 degrees.
Redeemer: I take it you're not measuring your temperature in Celsius or Kelvin?
Is that much of a surprise that americans use fahrenheit? They even write the date in a stupid format and the NSNumberFormatter class insists that -100 needs to be written as (100) for them.
Uh, yeah, the measurement is in Fahrenheit. If it was anything you could be sure I was dead.
Quote:

Ah hah! I spend a lot of time with Europeans online so I've trained myself to use a universal format that anyone will recognize:
2011/04/13
As for the temperature, I suppose Celsius would've been better to use, but I was simply directly reporting my thermometer's reading.
EDIT: I've thought about this before, but Americans are notorious for having nonstandard or out-of-date measurement systems that require translation for use in anything practical (inches, feet, degrees Fahrenheit, MM/DD/YY, etc.) I've always believed that the cause for this was our geographical location; in the years where these measurement systems were replaced with better systems, we were out of contact enough that we just kept the old ones. We missed the update, and now our society has suffered as a result.
IMO they ought to start teaching American students how to read lengths in meters, temperatures in Celsius, and dates as YYYY/MM/DD, etc.
Hint: the first number has 4 digits. There are only 31 days max in a month. *SCNR*
EDIT: I just realized how you confused yourself. I used a format YYYY/MM/DD. There is no format YYYY/DD/MM (as far as I know). That's why I chose that format to use everywhere, I thought this was obvious.
Don't you just hate it when you staple a stack of paper so that the staple has been placed too close to the edge of the stack and will most likely break through the paper? You consider stapling the stack again, but then you will have two staples in the stack. And you don't want to try removing the first staple because then you will have to find the staple remover and even if you do find it you might tear your pages trying to remove the staple anyway.
My eldest brother works at a company called L&D Mail Masters which specializes in mass mailing. Naturally the company, internally, has only a few components, mainly: the salespeople, and the IT group. My brother is a part of the latter end.
The company is headed by a woman who, while a good saleswoman, is sadly below average when it comes to technology, which is for all intents and purposes the life-blood of the company. Nevertheless she considers herself an expert. Dangerous combination.
Moving on.
My brother is a part of a project that is revamping their print system, a process his boss neither appreciates nor understands. Sadly, though, any real changes he makes must be passed through her, so in a meeting called by my older brother, he managed to rally all of his colleagues to explain the situation as best as possible so they could make the necessary changes.
Brother & company: "Well, first of all, we're getting tons of warnings and error messages in the log file here." "None of them are directly related to our real problem, but they are all problems in and of themselves and, for the most part, share a common source." "These issues show that the system requires a major upgrade, or eventually it could stop functioning altogether."
Boss: "Well, why don't we just delete these warnings from the log file?"
So me and my brother recently got Syndicate: American Revolt running on DOSBox, complete with multiplayer functionality (which took some work, because you need to load a certain set of obscure DOS TSRs that don't come with the program to get it to work). Anyway, that game is FUN. I highly recommend you pick up a copy and give that game a spin. I'd even be willing to post a guide to walk you through the setup process, just so you can get a taste of it (aren't I generous?).
Just beat Cave Story after playing it over this weekend. I had played it before, but never to completion.
As far as I know, I did almost everything right...

When Kazuma offered to fly me down to the surface on his dragon, I declined, and instead confronted the doctor to save Sue & company. I ended up fighting through four phases of the boss. I missed the fifth, though, because when Curly offered to trade her Machine Gun for my Polar Star, I accepted... and thus she drowned when I confronted the core.
But anyway. My mind is just blown right now. I feel like turning on my Wii and downloading the deluxe version right now...
That's not why she drowned. When there (prior to the boss battle, I think), you need to pick up a tow rope (you'll find it amongst the robot pieces at the bottom of the room where you fight the core). Then when she's drowning you can attach her to you. Then when going through the rapids, you should see a small cabin/room that you can go into. Go in there and put her on the bed. This is as far as I did last time, but there's more! There's a book shelf in there with information on how to drain water from robots. Follow its instructions.
Also, you need to get the booster 2.0, which you can only get if you don't go down to the professor guy when he falls past you (earlier on, I think). If you time it right, you can jump across the gap without the need for a booster.
Great game. I got the tough ending a very long time ago, and tried to do it again recently from memory, but fell just short.
If you time it right, you can jump across the gap without the need for a booster.
Or you use to machine-gun to "fly".
Two more hints about what to do with Curly:

Dont leave her there after you drained the water. Also you have to give her back her memories later.
Great characters, great story, great story telling, great optics/graphics, great/addictive gameplay, awesome soundtrack, and all works perfectly together. Thats Cave Story.
Well, it's been a few weeks since Ancient Palace 1.0 Beta and Pheonix demo 3 were released. In addition to the plans we have for Ancient Palace and Pheonix, we are planning to work on something massive. We're hoping that it will be successful enough so that players won't just play a few minutes and leave. We hope to have it so players are playing it a lot, at the same time. We also want to add more player choice to this game than the previous ones we've worked on. As our statement goes, "The next gaming revolution!", we want to break the Shattered barriers of the gaming World, and being revolutionary in what we do. We want to do something that no other studio nor team has done. It may even be 3D!
Everything right up until that last sentence is just one long fuse connected to an explosive that goes off the second those last five words are read.
Read a story about an ex-marine who was sawing down trees with a chainsaw when he was attacked by a mountain lion.
He was able to fend it off Doom style with the chainsaw, but in doing so a scientific discovery was made: chainsaws are not effective against moving organisms.
Well, the GS forum members taught me one or two things. I'm not considering the project a company, I fixed the whole "Ltd" dispute, plus I do understand why they're saying to take on smaller projects. However, if I'm successful, they'll be rubbing their foreheads in disbelief. Don't get me wrong, I'm not EXPECTING the project to go far. It's just something to do with a ton of my spare time, as well as something to give me only a SMALL touch of what it feels like to design games.
I like how people buy Radeons, but only in the same way I like how people buy Macs -- I don't want nVidia or Microsoft to have a monopoly. Besides that, I at least see some appeal in buying a Mac, but none in buying a Radeon.

I just got an idea for a game whereby the player is a sniper in a very realistic world with call of duty level of graphics, etc. etc. Everything is very realistic except for the fact that all the people are stickmen with "rage comic" faces.
So the objective is that as a sniper, you are payed infinite monies to assassinate people of pomp and power. So you're dropped off at some pristine mansion where some dude is holding a party and you set off a bomb that causes the entire place to explode... sending dozens of little raging stickmen all over the place with 1337 physix. And if you snipe a rage man in the face while he's raging, he explodes like a creeper and you get bonus points.
Ironically and humorously enough, you are also a stickman... although this is not apparent from your first-person perspective, as you see realistic arms holding your weapons and such.
Redeemer: It would be a bit strange to reward hitting the head. I know headshots are normally rewarded, but think about it. You are shooting on a meme stickman. The only thing you can hit is the head.
In other news, I was really anticipating Quake Con '10 to see Doom4, and they didn't show anything then. So I waited a whole friggin' year for Quake Con '11 and they didn't show anything then, either.
I understand they don't want to upstage Rage (which will be released in just two months now) but I'm sure releasing some quick pics or a short video wouldn't have hurt anyone.
Btw, have you all seen the new Rage Uprising trailer? It's probably the best video game trailer I've seen since the infamous 2001 Duke Forever trailer:
They share a very similar style, although you can't accuse id for ripping off Gearbox. Development of Rage began long before Borderlands was even announced.
I suppose I am looking most forward to the diversity and the technology Rage will offer. As well as offering a unique cast of characters (unlike the 30,000 cloned imps of the last game) Rage uses an interesting engine that allows them to stream unique texture data directly from the hard drive. Every single polygon in the game has been hand painted from scratch, so there is no such thing as tiling textures in Rage.
@Superku: Yes I've seen the trailer, it's very good! Have you seen the six part "Behind the Scenes" series on Youtube? It explains the game a lot better than a two minute trailer can.
I wanted to try out Trêvaux's algorithm on it, but the rules didn't permit any real marking. The maze was so simple anyway (it was really several small mazes connected end-to-end) that I just decided to use the right hand rule.
Hopefully they got the weapon handling right this time, it was pretty weak in Doom 3 (the game was not so great, too).
I agree. The sound effects were particularly bad imo.
I pre-ordered this game two months ago, so I'm eagerly awaiting my copy on Oct. 4th (US release date). I bought the Xbox version and I'm having it shipped from Amazon.com - the PC version will probably be slightly superior (yay hacking!) but I've got a thing against Steam (don't try to argue it) and my PC is crap anyway. Besides, this way I get to play splitscreen cooperative multiplayer with my brothers.
Good luck with that. With every new game they come out with about 50-100 new pokemon.
Back to the subject of RAGE: it was released in the US just last night at 12:00 Central Time (that's GMT-6, or GMT-7 if it's DST). It's getting good reviews so far from The Escapist (4.5/5), IGN (8.5/10), and EGN(9/5), which is a good thing. But apparently RAGE is plagued by first-day hardware incompatibility bugs that have caused the game to read many CPUs and GPUs at speeds of 0Mhz with 0MB RAM, causing for some strange performance issues and setup pains.
Other notable things many players have already complained about that you might not want to spoil yourself over:

- The boss is a "cop out." (but then again, most id bosses have been) - The characters are bland and unbelievable. (id game, still forgivable) - The sidequests are somewhat dull. (this is kind of the heart of an adventure game, so this is a little more serious) - The action levels are very linear. (a little disappointing, but then again, what can you expect?) - The game only clocks in to about 10-15 hours of gameplay. (shorter than I wanted for the price, but replays and coop will keep me entertained longer) - The multiplayer modes (racing and coop) are a bit lacking. (somewhat disappointing considering this is an id game)
Still looking forward to it, though! Just happier I bought the Xbox version.
Thanks Superku! I took the test yesterday and it was no trouble at all, although I was fighting a cold at the time. I'm confident that I'll get a good score.
EDIT: I had to wait a few minutes, but it eventually came back. Apparently it had downloaded an update and wanted to restart. I hit the restart button and Steam crashed.
I really don't understand why Steam does what it does... my computer is really only a few years old, and my internet connection isn't half bad either.

Right. Because cracking down on violence, theft, trespass, defacement of public/private property, obscenity, and public disturbance totally undermines our constitution, of which I'm sure he has never read himself.
Quote:
>North Korea tripled their stockpiles of chemical and biological weaponry in the last year.
Yeah. They also "test fired" some bombs in South Korea just this year.
Quote:
>Reddit got 25 million pageviews daily last month.
Speaking in terms of the numbers alone, that's 1/12th of the population of the United States.
>Australia just sold a shit ton of uranium to India.
No, we havent. Our Prime Minister (that nobody actually voted for), is ASKING for support from the rest of the government to allow the sales to BEGIN.
Currently the sale WONT go ahead, because India hasent/wont sign the "nulcear weapons anti-proliferation agreement". Until they do, it aint gunna happen.
Because she has stirred up enough ill-will with the United-Nations already with our refugee (bordering on illegal) policies, no other politicians are going to stir them up even MORE by ignoring what 'the agreement' stands for...

>Reddit got 25 million pageviews daily last month.
This may not seem much to you, but its actually more than the ENTIRE population of Australia...
http://lilly.slindev.com/adventskalender/ Runs best in Chrome (Javascript in Chrome seems to be several times faster than in FireFox and Safari and Opera would need you to enable WebGL, which is currently an on default disabled experimental feature...). Probably needs up to date graphics drivers. Controls are WASD or arrow keys+space to jump.
Not totally awesome and probably a bit buggy, but I am very happy that we got as far as we got with this .
My record for Level 1.0 without cheating is btw 21.47s and Level 3.0 is actually pretty hard...
For our english folks, basically they made every ticket 3,9% more expensive (which is way over the inflation) and every online place reservation 75% more expensive. But the real fuck up is that they charged a student for sitting on the stairway to the first class 40€ because the stairway (which is really uncomfortable) belongs to the first class and he had no valid ticket for the first class. WTF?!
Yeah, that`s something I`m also always wondering about. Especially Marian`s hairstyle. I could never do something like this with my hair. I tried to when I was a bit younger, but that ended up in a complete mess after one hour or two.
C3PO seems to be heavily inspired by Fritz Lang's Metropolis.
It's a fact that George Lucas was inspired by the film 'Metropolis'. He told it in an interview. And he was also inspired by the dogfights of World War I.
Just bought Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition from GOG. Oh boy, this game sure rocks. It's from 1996 and is still much more entertaining that many of todays ego shooters.
I use the 50rep+ feed but sometimes even this one has too much output which makes it hard to follow (but it also includes some gems that you don't find in the higher feeds)
Nice find "At 15:30:08 UTC on 4 December 292,277,026,596 AD, the Unix time stamp will exceed the largest value that can be held in a signed 64-bit integer.[82]"
Would love to know that, too. As far as I know, Creative Assembly has nothing to do with it, but maybe I really should have kept those screens confidential
Well this is not correct, if I'm not mistaken. sin(x) <= x, thus sin(0.5) < 0.5, sqrt(0.5) > 0.5 (approx. 0.7, because 0.7² = 0.49). I think it's sin(Pi/4) = 1/sqrt(2).
EU-Gesetz: Keine Babybilder mehr auf Säuglingsnahrung
m(
Finde ich also eher gut.
Senioren?
(Quelle: WHO, http://www.who.int/nutrition/publications/Frequently_ask_question_Internationalcode.pdf, Seite 6)

For my personal taste the comicstyle kills the atmosphere of this game. This black outlines doesnt fit to the enviroment very well. If a comiclook is desired then it should be more handpainted and with less colors, like in "the walking dead".
And as the video shows there are a few visual bugs like looking inside rocks or the jumping animationcicle of the guards at the end.
But hey! Besides of the personal taste and capabillities of the designer, its an finished game - made with acknex - and it doesnt is real bad.
probably they took the comic shader from the Skulls demo, made don't know by who, and I have never understood why it is a good effect in such a game... maybe in games for children would be great.
and true, a rare finished game, which is always a big work!
Unbelievable big shit storm: Read the comments of the buyers and the answers to that comments. Also because the devs started to delete the facebook comments. This action is making the shit storm bigger.
Looks like the idea and story itself aren´t even that bad, but the execution is... Looking at the trailer the voice acting is really bad and in no way synchronized with the lips. Also the animations are really bad as well as that outline thingy... But, it may would have been an okayisch game 10 years ago
"Our company is a lot bigger then[sic] your little youtube channel"
1.5 mio subscribers surely is a little YouTube channel, huh? And somehow you should use perfectly correct English when you are threatening to sue someone lol.
They could have avoided such a situation, if they had only charged 2$ for their game. In my opinion it qualifies only for a free game given away as a hobby project. But a much lower pricetag would have generated much less anger about their product.
The guy commenting in the video is way more annoying than the game seems to be.
Exactly. I hate unprofessionel youtubers who have crappy looking and sounding shows and have such annoying personalities. Their critique has, in my eyes, not much value, because there is too much you could critizise on the show itself.
The game is bad, no question, but it is covered enough through more or less professional channels.
You guys know http://www.wolframalpha.com/ right? It used to be much better/ more useful when you didn't need a pro account but it's still quite handy and interesting.
It blows my mind that this thread is still going, I figured it would've died a long time ago. Keep up the good work, guys!

You need an account to use wolframalpha now? That's a shame, I used it a few times in my discrete math course last semester and found it pretty neat and interesting.
On a side note, I've been trekking along learning Deutsch at a solid rate (or at least how to write it) and my professors are all pleased with my progress (apparently I'm some sort of linguistic genius), but something that's been bothering me is that although my last paper (500 word review of a german film) got few marks, the professor "didn't like" a couple of the more complex and wordy parts of my paper. ie:
Quote:
That being said, since the majority of you know german as your first language it would be awesome if you could explain to me why these are so awkward.
It's awkward because the flow of the sentence is changing within the sentence. Not the pacing, but how you approach the topic (I'm sure there is a grammatical term for this, but fuck that, ain't nobody got time for that)
Here is how I would write them (disclaimer: Just because it's my native language and my father teaches German in high school doesn't mean I'm good at it)
Quote:
Quote:
Honestly, more context would've been nice. But yeah, maybe you can salvage this in some way
Thank you muchly for the feedback. To be honest your sentences read much more naturally than mine anyway. I think part of it simply has to do with my inexperience with german vocabulary, though another part seems to do with my tendency to imagine sentences in English and attempting to rerender them in german. Aside from more simple sentences it's next to impossible for me to think that naturally in german at this point, but I try.

I detect you want to see the rest of my paper. My answer to that is more or less No.

Yeah, thanks again. It actually means a lot to me, so I'll take note of it.
Since last night I made the corrections to my paper that Sid mentioned and I'm feeling in a better mood now, so here it is:
Click to reveal..
Note that the primary purpose this exercise was simply to get us to write a whole lot in german so I tend to elaborate and nitpick a lot on small points just to extend the length of the paper. It's probably clear enough from what I say there but I didn't care for the film all that much.
I think it's really cool that you try to learn German so have my support in the form of some corrections/ alterations I've made to your paper:

Some things are still a little strange to me (like "Feld-Wald-und-Wiesen") but it's certainly a good start. A little tip: Don't use semicolons, 99.9% of the time they feel out of place (in texts in general, it's a barely used punctuation mark).
Can I ask you what your primary motivations were to learn German, it's not only this forum, right? EDIT: And what's your major/ in welchem Rahmen studierst du Deutsch, an der Universität? (btw. it's "der deutsche Goethe" with a lower case d)
Btw. you don't need a paid pro account for wolframalpha but many things which used to be free are now paid-only.
Feld-Wald-und-Wiesen was the best translation I could come up with for "run of the mill" an english idiom that basically means, the same old stuff, pretty typical, generic, unremarkable. I knew I could've used any one of those words but I wanted to use something more evocative. The fact that you've never heard of it means that I probably didn't succeed. :\

In America there's very little impetus to learn a foreign language to any useful degree because literally 90% of the entire continent speaks English as their first language and if they ever have to converse with someone in Europe (ie for business or whatever) they know there's a very high chance that they will probably know English as well. Well, many of us are just happy having it that way, but I always felt like it was kind of lame to be so reliant on just one language. The ability to switch gears in a sense and converse in a way that's absolutely different than the way you were talking before is quite honestly a very enviable skill to have. That being said most of it is just a personal thing. You'd probably find it hard to believe that this forum of all places would be the thing to cause me to learn a new language, but that is frankly a large part of what made me decide to actually spend the last 9 months picking it up and not learning, say, Mandarin, or even nothing at all.
Most other reasons I have for learning German are as follows:
1) The vocabulary is concise and precise. Though I value the amount of variety and expressiveness offered by the sheer vastness of the English vocabulary I also appreciate german's simplicity in that you guys tend to combine a lot of small words to create new ones, rather than pulling them from tons of other languages or outright inventing them from nothing.
2) The spelling isn't a cluster fuck. Seriously. It makes way more sense than English, let alone French.
3) The cadence of the language, ie the way certain words are stressed and such, actually tends to match English fairly closely. With practice it's not too hard to understand what someone is saying in german.
4) The language sounds nice. People like to make fun of German for being harsh and guttural here sometimes but it just reminds me of heavy musical instruments like bassoons and cellos.
5) The people who speak the language tend to be fairly technologically oriented. That is to say that on the internet I tend to notice far more technically literate germans than I do italians, or spaniards, or french, or russians. Not that those people don't exist, but culturally you guys seem more prominent in that way.
6) The language is written more or less the same way it is spoken and it isn't broken into several fiercely competing dialects like, say, Norwegian, where the official dialect is spoken by approximately no one and the written language, Bokmål, is more Danish than it is Norwegian.
7) I already have misconceptions about what wonderful and nice you people are.
8) Eight
9) You have an obsession for sausage and beer.
10) Did I mention sausage and beer?

I'm majoring in Computer Science. Taking German courses was an entirely elective decision on my part and has nothing to do with my ordinary studies. To be honest though I find the classes I'm having to take for my CS degree to be exceptionally dull, and if I were just going to university for fun I'd just load up on German classes because that's the thing I enjoy most at the university.
Actually, I'm seriously considering dropping out of uni completely at the end of this semester on account of the work I've been doing for my game, which is competing strongly for my time and attention nowadays and causing me to rethink whether I want to bother getting certified to work in an industry I have no actual desire to be a part of. I love working for myself and have come to believe if I could concentrate all of my effort on my game it could turn into something very valuable for me. Plus I don't live in Germany so I won't be drafted or anything if I decide not to go to school anymore.
Anyway, thanks very much for the tips. I'll try to bear them in mind for next time.
I'm aware of the "Feld Wald und Wiesen" phrase. Maybe just a local thing, given that Superku lives in Northern-Germany?
In regards to #9: If you ever come here to Germany, specifically west Germany where I'm from, send me a message and we will go eat a great Schnitzel somewhere. Or Leberkäs and Spätzle (shut up south Germany, we can do that stuff too!)
You mean military service, right? Currently there is none, at least no compulsory service (since ~2011).
Then I'd feel just as comfortable dropping out in Germany as I would here.

I've read some days ago an article about that the same person thinks differently (i.e. uses a bit different logic) when speaks in different languages. imo it's true, moreover you take a piece of culture of that nation when you learn a language. yeah, and new foods
It's true, learning more than one language causes you to think differently in each one. Learning new languages also becomes easier overall the more of them you learn since your brain generalizes various concepts and makes certain neural connections easier to make.
The funny thing is that I've known people who are completely bilingual but who sometimes fail to notice somewhat obvious connections between their two languages, like in word etymologies and such. It's as if their brains have each language sectioned off to its own highly developed region and there's just not much cross talk anymore.
probably this separation in mind is true: I really don't like switching between languages within a conversation, I rather try to tell it in English, despite I speak my mother tounge language much better... but another reason of it is that I hate when e.g. there's an English speaker who doesn't understand at all what we talk in Hungarian (said to be difficult to learn), when we could use our common language (and vica versa).
I'm aware of the "Feld Wald und Wiesen" phrase. Maybe just a local thing, given that Superku lives in Northern-Germany?
It's interesting to note that the official duden-page (they practically define whats proper in the language) recognizes the phrase.
What's ACTUALLY interesting is that I know the phrase, but I've only ever really heard it without the "Feld-" in front of it (maybe because it flows a little bit better with one syllable (and pause) less). But apparently, that is not what the duden-page considers the "proper way", so take that as you will.
This further confirm my opinion Nowadays , thanks to modern engines, it is , relatively speaking, rather easy to develop a game at the state of art Did such game get bad reviews because of 3dgs poor graphics ? I dont think so The point is IMHO the apalling lack of fantasy Why should people be interested in the "shadow of ..." There are thousand games around like that
Re: Minecraft: The Story of Mojang - 03/12/1418:28
yes
I dont know when you got stsrted with this hobby However ask anybody with , let's say at least 10 years experience and it will confirm that at the time game development was a black art it is not just a matter of modern game engines, nowadays you can find ton of high level model / enviroment / animations almost for free
Indie developers should try to come up with something original ( it is not that easy of course )
Haha, ok not everybody can bare listening to this guy, but it is an A7 game also coming through greenlight.
Only thing I have to say: you can't sell your game for that amount of money. Choose other platforms where you can sell your game for 2$. You don't deserve over 10$ for such a game.

This paper is meant to be a limited argumentative essay of the german film "Das Leben der Anderen" which imo is one of the best films ever and if you haven't watched it, you're doing yourself a terrible disservice.
My professor has already marked the thingy up a bit, but I suspect she's been kind of selective about the things she chooses to correct so I'm going to let all of you be the judge and decide whether I've improved or not.
Re: Minecraft: The Story of Mojang - 04/12/1407:40
Tonight I wrote a short essay in German about people who have a penchant for fedoras and a problem being euphoric. Despite the overwhelming (cough) reception of my previous one I feel I may as well post it anyway for those interested.
Click to reveal..
The whole paper is basically just my commentary on a lot of the teen angst I've seen coming from people who are really introverted and feel entitled about it. Lacking social skills is fine and you can count me a perpetrator, but that doesn't mean it's something you should really feel proud about. The worst part is that I've seen this coming from people who are not even teens anymore, which just makes this tragedy of human character that much harder to witness.
Also, I understand if you think that the essay's topic is sort of dumb but I wasn't the one to decide what was passing through my mind this particular evening. Teen angst is srs bsns.
Re: Minecraft: The Story of Mojang - 04/12/1410:39
You have a really interesting way of forming your sentences... Very often, you can see that someone formed a sentence in his native language first and then forgot some grammar rules when translating into German, but not all of your sentences show the structure that usually emerges when an English speaker forms German sentences. An example, your first sentence:
Quote:
First of all it should be "Leuten" instead of "Leute", but that is a minor mistake and perhabs due to the fact that we have way to many rules for declanation of nouns in German. Much more interesting to me is your placement of "natürlich". Correctly, it should be "Es gibt natürlich viele Typen von Leuten in der Welt." What I think is odd is that, in English, the sentence would be "Naturally, there's many types of people in the world" or something like that, however, I don't think it'd be "There's many types of people naturally in the world", because that'd have a different meaning, so I wonder why you've placed the "natürlich" at that position in the sentence. It does not seem to be the simple case of forming the sentence in English and simply translating the words. There's more of these kind of sentences in your text, but this example springs to my eye.

That would be much nicer stylistically, yes, but it's not an issue of correctness I think. Both terms have the same meaning in the context of his essay.
Re: Minecraft: The Story of Mojang - 04/13/1400:41
Very cool! I've long figured that my sentences probably look weird overall compared to those produced by native speakers but couldn't confirm it because I still don't have a very good frame of reference and don't know which combinations of words sound more "normal" overall than others.
Probably the reason my sentences appear unusual for someone who has English as their first language is because even when I write in English I tend to use, erm, fairly peculiar word choices. As an example, even in my very last post I wrote:
Originally Posted By: Me

You would probably never hear somebody say this in real life outside of a prepared speech delivered at a convention for mentally challenged social rejects such as myself.
That being said I sure hope that none of you have picked up anything I've written as good practice because if you ever said any of these things to a living, breathing person here in the states, they'd probably think you're a bloody retard.
Well, thanks for the tips at any rate, I'll be sure to bear them in mind for next time. When I wrote that essay I used Menschen/Leute interchangeably just to avoid sounding monotonous, but it's good to know they're kinda sorta not at all synonymous with each other.
EDIT: By the way, although they're obviously cognitively similar to eachother, "Naturally" and "Natürlich" don't really mean the same thing. In German "Natürlich" is a perfectly usable everyday word to mean things like "of course" or "certainly" but in english it pretty much exclusively means something along the lines of "predictably". ie:
"When he ran out of milk he naturally went to pick some up at the store."
In other words, "naturally" tends to emphasize cause and effect. He went to the store because he ran out of milk. If you meant to say that his going to the store was obvious in and of itself, you'd probably use the phrase "of course". ie:
"Of course he went to the store to pick up some milk when he ran out."
But to most people you will sound like a prick if you just say it like that. As if they were supposed to know he would go to the store. Shame on you.
That being said I sure hope that none of you have picked up anything I've written as good practice because if you ever said any of these things to a living, breathing person here in the states, they'd probably think you're a bloody retard.
Hahaha well now it's too late for that, so thanks I guess. (^.^) Keep us updated on your German study, I find it pretty interesting!
If god exists, why did he decide to fill the internet with people who refuse to do any fact checking when everyone and their grandmother shows them how wrong they are wrong about something.
God dammit. I'm the last person on earth who would try to claim any kind of expertise on the german language but it irritates me to no end when some people in America who've never spoken anything but english their entire lives (and don't even know that well at all) give me a GERMAN sentence they got from google translate and then claim that *I* was speaking in broken german.
A bit of context: I logged out with the words "bis später, ihr Schwachköpfe :-)" and they responded "Heißt das, Sie zu Bett gehen?" (nice try) then after I left they stated I was talking in "broken german."
as a frequent reader of Strategy Informer I've just found today this negative review about Water Park Tycoon made recently with 3DGS: http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/waterparktycoon/2357/review.html if somebody does not know this magazine: in general they write reasonable articles, in case of strategy games they usually favouring game-play over appearance.
then bugger off for a few hours. Your park can essentially manage itself, and you don't have to deal with the glacially slow pace of the game, that requires you to either take out a gigantic loan to quickly extend the scope of your creation, or wait until the steady trickle of customers amounts to a flood and you can finally start making some money.
and

Attempting to frame the creation of your wonder park is a basic mission mode that allows you to unlock additional items for the free-form mode, giving you objectives designed to ease you in to park creation. Upon completion of these objectives, instead of moving on to a new set, you're instead invited to start over again building a new park in an identical lot, only with an ever more distant set of goals to complete.
are a waste of the game. It is a pity for the developer but I can understand when reading this gets a 4. Adding more different objectives and increasing the pace of the game are peanuts compared to the hard work that has already been done (that ai/pathfinding, grahpics etc.).
the good thing in their scoring system is that they are averaging their own score, other press scores available, and users scores. currently it is limited to their own score, later it can change, often it goes up by a little... register, and give a 10
the good thing in their scoring system is that they are averaging their own score, other press scores available, and users scores. currently it is limited to their own score, later it can change, often it goes up by a little... register, and give a 10
, if the developer patches it and solve the said problems, I wouldn't mind giving it a good score for the developer. I would not give it a good score now, cause I think than I would mislead readers (I think I would agree with most points the reviewer said if I would play the game, and upon closer look it is not my type of game that I will review/play it myself ).
So the new Wii U Zelda game (not Hyrule Warriors or whatever it is) was revealed today, and it looks bloody gorgeous.
Link also appears to have gotten a makeover this time around which in my opinion looks pretty sweet:
(interestingly, the patterns on his gauntlets there match the ones on Ganondorf in OoT. Mysterious)
Well at any rate, Nintendo says the game is intended to be released sometime next year, which is good news to me! Though I guess this also means I will have to pick up a Wii U sometime between now and then so I can play it.
I just wach the trailer and looks interesting. If we love "Indie Game: The Movie" then there is no reason to miss this movie. Maybe it will give me some extra motivation to speed up with my game
I finally saw Indie Game: The Movie! And I liked it! But I still don't like Phil Fish. Sorry. He's kinda nuts!
Anyway somebody else will have to tell you if Us and the Game Industry is any good, as I'm pretty selective when it comes to indie films to begin with.
I've seen "Us and the Game Industry" now and sadly it's by far not as good as "Indie Game: The Movie", esp. the beginning looks pretty cheap and is somehow missing a common theme. It gets better later on, though. I'd say 5.5/10.
"Cute girls doing cute things" is the english explanation of "moe". Mostly animes about life of girls in schools in Japan. No big story, just them having fun and whatever. K-On! for example.
And combined, SFW Example, opening page of a doujin by Rustle! It's cute, and well, you get it.
Fuck her and the 5 "journalists". And fuck the SJW who defend her actions. Corrupt bunch of shits who give an entire industry and social movement a bad name.
Your disclaimer makes me unsure what the criticism is. But maybe I should assure you that more than whoring, I don't tolerate people who start a controversy with bloody questionable behavior and then get bitchy when they're called out on it.
Whether Zoe Quinn is a whore or not doesn't bother me too much because there are a million whores in the world and I'm not concerned enough with Zoe's whoring in particular to complain about it, but what does irk me is her astounding lack of integrity over the issue.
Like, I dunno, maybe she is actually a whore and she just doesn't have the capacity to accept it?

That's quite arbitrary as there are also millions of those who lack integrity. Like those who loosely propagate tolerance on the one side and on the other support an inherently sexist group which collectively harasses a single woman for living the life she chose. Her private life is none of your business; neither who she sleeps with nor what she personally thinks about her life-style (which is a rather strange thing to criticize anyway). None of it. It's that simple. Really.
So how is she supposed to not having a "lack of integrity over the issue" if the internet is the one who declared it be an issue in the first place?
Being male you can sleep around as much as you like and the common consent is that it increases your reputation. But if you are lacking certain parts it will only make you a cheep "whore".
And even if you don't share those views (which I'm sure you don't/can't), it still doesn't give you the right to judge a person you had never personal contact with, solely on the "facts" provided by your like-minded shitstorm crew.
Quote:

You pretty much shot yourself in the foot with this one. My post was not objective/constructive but yours is what I call "questionable". No substance. Just read it again:

See how you repeatedly use the term "whore" as an implicit insult? On the one side this is typical premature behavior and on the other plainly sexist, considering the undeniable, insane problems associated with prostitution. And if you don't consider sexism to be "questionable", I srsly don't see how I could ever have a chance to change your mindset just in the slightest. Which would be unfortunate, because that's why I invest the time to formulate and write down my thoughts in the first place.
Now get back to making games (games in which you put your heart's blood and for which you don't want to be judged by anyone(probably); yes, yes, I'll stop already...but gosh, this is really bothering me ).

I think the fundamental issue you have with me is that I seem to enjoy reading about and contributing to the misfortunes of other people on the internet. That however is not the case. As a matter of fact, I'm actually sick at this point of the "Quinnspiracy" and have tuned out 4chan until the rest of the issue blows over.
Nonetheless, my opinion of Zoe Quinn stays the same. Maybe it's unfortunate to her that she had to be exposed in this way, but now that her personal life has been exposed like this I still don't like what I've read about her. And there's nothing sexist about that.
Quote:

I strongly disagree with this "perception." The biggest sex american sex scandals in my recent memory involve Bill Clinton and Tiger Woods, both of which are male.
Having said that, I did not judge Zoe Quinn the minute I heard about her and the controversy in general. Plenty of people get targeted on a fairly arbitrary basis everyday to face the collective wrath of the internet and I'm not the one who decides who gets to be a victim of that. Regardless, I did not judge her negatively just because everyone else already decided she's a slut. There are plenty of cases I can bring up where people were targeted like this and I didn't agree with the way the person was being victimized. Do you want me to name names or not?

I'm the one who's declared it an issue now based on what I've read about her, both from things she's posted herself and things people have posted about her (taking into consideration what proof exists, how much they seem to know her, etc.)
Regardless of whether the allegations against her are true are not (which isn't something I want to get into - I believe it, though) the way she's handled the situation is what I don't like. It's sad to her that her life had to be exposed like this, but at this point, if she is a slut she should own up to it and stop trying to protect her own interests. She's already in the public eye and has nothing to gain by maintaining her current position.
If she isn't a slut, then she should use the same strategy victims of libel use, that is, remaining calm and sticking to the truth.
I'd have been way less inclined to judge her negatively or pay any attention to the "conspiracy" in the first place if it were clear she were handling it like that - and again, I can name examples of people who *have* handled it like that, and whom I *have* ignored because of it. So I'm sorry I don't accept your criticism for making an exception over her.
I don't think anyone really gives two fucks about who she slept with. What really rubs me in all the wrong ways is that she slept with guys for the sole purpose of boosting her career and game, and that's a taboo for both women and men. It also makes her a whore, same as it would make a man a whore. Apparently you find that derogatory, imho it's just a matter of fact and how you judge that is up to you.
I guess that makes it clear what side of the "conspiracy" theories I'm on.
Edit: To clarify before anyone wants to butcher me: The original "quinspiracy" video was a lot of bullshit. I'm not against feminism or mental illness nor against bringing up these topics in gaming, truth is, I'm actually really liking Depression Quest. She does get some undeserved flack from a lot of people right now, but not everything that is thrown at her is without merit.
What really rubs me in all the wrong ways is that she slept with guys for the sole purpose of boosting her career and game
How do you know that this was the sole purpose? Guilty unless proven innocent? Besides, this is a general problem and instead of motivating a general discussion you prefer to project your anger on a single individual which is in no way constructive.

Pretty sure I mentioned the other 5 people involved in this as well, in case you haven't noticed.
Hummel, this isn't about a girl or the patriarchy oppressing anyone. If you sleep with your boss, you will be called out on it too. If you start an intimate relationship with someone, it will change their view on you and how they treat you, simple as that. I don't say she is not allowed to have sex with whomever she likes, although cheating on your SO is a fucked up thing, but wether it was her sole purpose or not, she shouldn't have done it in the first place. There are just people whom you shouldn't be in a relationship like that, this goes for males and females alike.
Hummel, this isn't about a girl or the patriarchy oppressing anyone.
I'm convinced that it is a driving power. Remember that not so unimportant journalist who harassed a female fellow on chat a while ago? Didn't produce nearly as big of an outcry as this destructive shitstorm now. And the facts around there were quite clear.
Well, the way this campaign developed pretty much negates every valid point there might have been at it's core at some point in time, anyway. There is simply no place for a constructive debate atm.
Remember that not so unimportant journalist who harassed a female fellow on chat a while ago?
Remember that big feminist organization which organized a rally at the university of Toronto last year and literally shouted and insulted at every man who walked by last year without provocation? Everybody ended up forgetting about that too.
I mean, ffs, every year when I sign up for classes and complete my form for federal education funding, I'm given a list of boxes not to check about my racial and sexual status: I'm not female, I'm not black, I'm not hispanic, I'm not asian. I'm not foreign, I'm not gay, I'm not bisexual, I'm not gender queer, and I don't identify as rabbit-kin. Therefore, by the logic of my government and this society at large, I deserve less money for my education than anyone who is any one or more of those things.
This is not about equality. If these people were truly egalitarian, they would not be distributing extra money to people for things that have absolutely nothing to do with the system they're actually enrolling in. Being gender-equal means setting up a system that is not biased anyway or the other, but simply protects each side from particular instances of injustice only when they arise.
This is why I think the idea of the patriarchy is so stupid. I'm willing to buy into the idea that women have historically had far less of an opportunity to excel and apply themselves because there are numerous factual cases where women's achievements weren't acknowledged for their sex, but today's society is worlds different from the way things were before. Do women still get picked on for their sex? Yeah, sometimes. Sexism isn't going away, but the idea that we can eliminate it by tipping all of the scales in women's favor is ridiculous and will only serve to create more contention and strife in the future.
Seriously, some people need to just get a grip on reality and realize that political correctness is as much a part of the problem as the social problems underneath it. Morgan Freeman gets it!

, seriously is it true that you need to fill those things in? that is retarded...
Well, the way this campaign developed pretty much negates every valid point there might have been at it's core at some point in time, anyway. There is simply no place for a constructive debate atm.
That's like saying "Well, public service workers don't earn enough to make a decent living. Therefore, instead of fixing that problem, we should make it our agenda to lower all wages enough so everyone has a shitty live."
It's a good thing Zoe got called out. Period, everything else will send the message that that's totally A-Ok to do. That there are other issues in this world, well, no one is denying that, but that's beyond the point. "Well, yeah, that was a shitty thing to do. But the world totally sucks anyways so who cares" is a pretty pathetic point of view, if you ask me.
So it's a good thing that people share private photos of her online and stalk her and her relatives irl? Or do you really think that one could consider any potentially valid point in isolation from the clusterfuck around?
That was what this quote was about. Not about adapting the standards for all or something.
Or do you really think that one could consider any potentially valid point in isolation from the clusterfuck around?
I'm sorry, but what is your argumentation? I already said that I don't agree with everything that is thrown at her, but that doesn't mean you should cut her some slack on her actual short comings. Are you really advocating feels over reals here?
I'm sorry but this is getting ridiculous. Yes I think it's a good thing she got called out Yes I think that a public figure should be called out in public Yes I think that what she did was absolutely wrong No I don't think it is correct to dox her close family nor to drag them into this No I don't think that it gives anyone the right to just shit all over her Yes I agree that not everything that's said about her should be said about her Yes there definitely are people who just use this as an excuse to hate someone
You complain about generalization but at the same time lump everything that is said against her into one big "you are all so mean and it's because she has a vagina". Are you really trying to tell me that critisizing her and calling her out is not okay?
You complain about generalization but at the same time lump everything that is said against her into one big "you are all so mean and it's because she has a vagina".
No, I'm not. I apparently fail to communicate my point, though. So lets try again:
Quote:
Are you really trying to tell me that critisizing her and calling her out is not okay?
In the situation as it stands, yes. There is a pissed ex who presents seemingly convincing "proof" of socially unacceptable behavior to the web. But nobody really KNOWS how much of this is truly grounded and what her personal motivations are/were. Yet that is reason enough for people to throw the worst stuff at her. Because she MIGHT be guilty of inappropriate behavior. And because human-human interaction is so superficial that if it looks like behavior XYZ it is simply XYZ.
Now you tell me that you don't approve of how she got called on XYZ, but you still think that it is a good thing that it happened anyway, because you have valid concerns regarding behavior XYZ.
I probably still didn't get your point. However, that's my impression so far.
I'd like to go back to a point I already made which is, if she's not guilty of anything, she would very easily be able to sue her ex for libel and win.
She's not doing that, so the odds that she's actually a totally innocent victim is extremely low.
This pretense of "Oh, we can't prove anything therefore we should just ignore her because its none of our business. If you disagree, you're a sexist and support harrassment and stalking!" is ridiculous and pretty disappointing as well.
I also got a drone, in the hopes I can do some cool stuff with it and the Raspberry Pi. A tad cheaper than Harry Potter ones, because it's probably going to last as long as his.
The first success: I've already managed to shred the Risen poster.
I got this political propaganda in the mail a few years ago and I just had to tape it to my wall:
Because everybody knows Albert Einstein went to an american school, right?
Remember, the kind of people who distribute stuff like this are the kind who get voted into office. That's how you know our political system is fucked.
We've been working on Rayne quasi 2.0 since a bit now (this is not a product announcement, just a segue), and parts of it is a completely rewritten thread pool, which supports better synchronization primitives and gives some more guarantees and freedom with regards to execution, as wall as quality of service. And I can't help but feel in awe of the x86 architecture: My i7 has almost 200 registers and somewhere around 250+ instructions in the pipeline at any given point in time.
x86 is not just an assembly language, it's a masterpiece of engineering effort and an unpredictable cunt. You can shoot your performance to hell by misaligning data, but can achieve exceptional performance gains by intentionally misaligning other data so that it falls into two cache lines. Oh, and then there is this whole SMT concept next to SMP where a single fucking core represents itself as two logical core, where sharing semantics become a little bit different again.
It's amazing that spinning for a couple of thousand cycles can give you 10x performance gain over taking the current thread off of the CPU and incurring context switching penalties. What a great time to live in.
Optimization is scary. I have a book (admittedly quite old now) called Michael Abrash's Graphics Programming Black Book. It's extremely interesting and entertaining to read about all the ways x86 programming has evolved through the decades, but damn does it make me afraid to ever go back to serious optimizing again.
On an unrelated note, Barony seems to be taking over the /r/roguelikes subreddit.
A few days ago, we FINALLY caught the attention of the twitch community, who are now gleefully getting their skulls crushed by boulders, spells and archaic weaponry. We're going to launch Barony on April 4th and within 24 hours will have our greenlight up too, so everything seems to be moving along well.
The relief is actually palpable. Just a few days ago I seriously felt lower than I probably ever have in my life, but people seem to like the game and with luck we may come out of this with more than just $10 in change.
Nice work, Redeemer! So great to get some community attention! I can't recall whether I've already given Barony the thumbs up on Greenlight, but I will when I get the chance. Hopefully someone at Valve sees it!
EDIT: By the way, I had the video going in the background while I did some other stuff. Cool creatures, environments, traps, weapons, NPCs -- it's all there! Nice!
Thanks Jibb! We were going to wait until our launch date to kick off the greenlight as you suggested, but when the Twitch community got wind of our game and started streaming it we got in touch with a fellow named Kevin White (aka Jacklifear) who's going to be organizing a prelaunch event to generate hype Very Soon, and he suggested that we launch the greenlight NOW so that we could capitalize on all the traffic he and all of his affiliates will be generating in the coming days.
So, the lesson is: no battle plan ever survives contact with the enemy, and no marketing plan ever survives contact with the consumer. When the circumstances change you need to adjust your strategy, and in our case that meant launching the greenlight now instead of waiting the extra week and missing this opportunity for votes and exposure.
Anyway, thanks for the support everybody! Words can't describe how much I appreciate it. Seriously.
Get it while it's hot! It's really cool, but the browser version was taken down by nintendo the other day so there's no telling how long the downloadable one will be available.
Just saw the project can no longer be downloaded from that page now, so if anybody wants a link I can host the windows version on a dropbox or something.
Shame nintendo went and took it down! You can see by the description that all of the art and level assets other than the star, goomba and Mario himself were completely original, so clearly this was a knee-jerk reaction on the part of Nintendo's legal department to protect their own property, even though the paradox is that there are much worse and more blatant infringements going on in places like gmod's steam workshop and such.
Oh well. Hopefully it's not all a waste for the author. The lengths he must've gone to to produce such a faithful recreation of that first stage is very impressive, so I hope he manages to get something out of it in the end.
@Jibb: yep, we're gonna put achievements in and also integrate things like game invitations so you can invite other players to the multiplayer lobbies you create. It'll probably take a couple months for the game to release on Steam since I'm in the process of getting a job and the time I have to concentrate on the game is more diminished lately, but it'll be done sooner or later!
Also: nice cake! I love sponge cake
@the_clown: yeah, before we got on greenlight we expected to take at least a few months to be greenlit, but the deals we got in on at IndieGameStand and Groupees really pushed us into the top 50 after a few weeks. From that point on it was just a short matter of time until we were greenlit. So now it's definitely my opinion and experience that the best way to get exposure for your game is to get in on as many deals and platforms as possible, since most journalists don't have time to pick up on games that haven't been proven anywhere else before. Even the really small platforms give a lot of opportunity to get your game exposed if you can manage to get featured there!
