ATorque - 12/10/10 02:37

Hiya.

Theoretically (and that's a BIG-@ZZ Theoretically), how hard do you think it would be for Conitec to buy the Torque engine and then put both A8 and Torque in a particle accellerator and smash them together?

The best thing A8 has going for it is its programability, but Torque has the networking and visuals. In my fantasy world of perfect-engines, "ATorque" would be pretty sweet.

Just a random thought I had and quickly dismissed...but then I figured, "Hey, why not? Sure it would be a TON of work, but the end result might just be worth it...". Anyone have any thoughts about this? Feel free to wildly speculate with crazy "What If?.." scenario's. laugh

Financally that could be a good investment actually, but that's from my pov, someone does not know anything about finance.

And why not, There was some really nice people at Torque Community, i do not know if their niceness can make up for others' not-so-niceness.

But both engine can't mix , all is different :
language, Engine access and core is different.
All pipeline , all architecture is different.

But Conitect could buy it and make A9 from this new base.
It could be some AAA features engine with top notch tools and editors indeed.

But i don't think of that , and im' pretty sure A9 will be only
A8 following path.
Like A8 that is just A7 continuing developement and improvment.

I doubt conitec has that amount of money on hand for risk investments... and like ratchet said, you cant just "put two engines together"...

o come on people, we all know you cant cram two engines together, its obvious that this guy wasnt being too serious, with that said, i dont mind seeing a UnrealCryUnity studio, oh, with uberawesome futuregen technology and can run on 60meg gfx card... ^ ^ laugh oh and a cookie with each license purchase, why doesnt conitec give cookies frown atleast i'd have something to motivate me to buy A8 laugh

Re: ATorque - 12/11/10 01:01

If there's a proper toolchain it would be interesting - tools can be modified.
Conitec did this with DEU for A3 and Qoole as well as Quake2 Modeler (Q2M) for A4.
So it would be possible to take the best of both worlds and form sth new.

Merging to engines however.... forget it. This will not work. At least not easily.

...and I am VERY sure this will not happen.
1) I don't think Conitec will earn much extra money with this strategy
2) additional man power would be needed to guarantee that some combined kit finally reaches operational state and also the old engine needs to be updated.

--> this won't happen

I think I can safely confirm that we won't buy the Torque engine.

Although it had some nice tools, developing them from scratch would be preferable for many reasons than purchasing the technology.
