Trading on Crypto Currency exchanges?

Trading on Crypto Currency exchanges? - 06/25/17 09:11

Another newbie question please:

Is there a possibility to use Zorro with a crypto currency exchange like Poloniex.com, Kraken.com or other ones?

If not - is there a possibility to get the coin history for Bitcoin, Ethereum and the other altcoins?
Maybe Zorro could so help by telling when to buy or sell.

Kind regards, Peter

Should be no problem if the broker supports MT4/5 and BTC pairs. Maybe you'll find additional advice at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1754977.0. I read that 1.60 comes with an IG plugin and IG supports BTC pairs trading.

Thanks for the answer, Sphin.

I read the thread you mentioned and checked the brokers.

But it's not that what I wanted. The brokers have only a very limited set of crypto currencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum and sometimes Litecoin).

I hoped to let Zorro work on the real crypto currencies exchanges like Poloniex which have many different crypto currencies because the smaller coins are very volatile and have enormous growing and shrinking of their value.

But until now I couldn't find any hint how to use them with Zorro.

The only hint I read yesterday was the use of "API keys", what is not supported by Zorro AFAIK. Does anybody have more knewledge about these API keys and how to use them?

Kind regards, Peter

You would need to implement support for those brokers yourself (or pay someone to do it) using the broker API.

Re: Trading on Crypto Currency exchanges? - 06/27/17 15:16

As a small hobby investor who has started 2 month ago I am still waiting for the mighty amount of money which will come in the near and far future thanks to Zorro ... ;-)

So it's unlikely to pay a professional for implementing such a plugin. :-(

Besides Poloniex.com is not a broker but an exchange; after some reading I am no longer sure whether you can treat it as a broker and can handle it good enough via a broker plugin.

Does anybody know more?

Although direct market access is even better than a broker within in general, I think more important here is the fact if you can trade with X via an API than if X is called a broker or an exchange. But at Poloniex.com I can't read anything about an API so maybe they offer none. Furthermore Poloniex.com seems to offer only crypto/crypto, no crypto/fiat, I don't know if you want to trade them.

Hi Spin,

direct market access is good, but alt coins have much and quick volatility therefore you should be on 24/7.
Because of lesser time and because of my non existing skills of manual trading I hoped for Zorro.

Poloniex has an API
https://poloniex.com/support/api/
(BTW: I have found some bots which trade on poloniex or other exchanges (gunbot, hassobot).)

crypto/crypto vs. crypto/fiat - because I live in the same country as you I need EUR in the end to pay my bills.

But on the other side I want to trade with the newer and smaller altcoins because the have more potential as the older and bigger ones. So I have no other choice as crypto/crypto.

I started working on a Kraken Plugin. For now I excluded Poloniex as they have some widrawal issues for some wallets.
But I'm not sure zorro could be fully compatible with cryptocurrency exchanges.
One of my worries would be if you have your main account in bitcoin, that has 8 decimals, what would happen to zorro stats, that only give results with 2 decimals.
For the rest I think it might be fine.
Anyone from zorro team sees any other issues ?
API docs are below

Thanks

At least the 8 decimals should not be a problem. Zorro uses double floats with about 17 decimals for price calculation and series.

vinsom: that's great you're working on that. As I see it crypto markets are quite immature which means less liquidity but also less noise and more inefficiencies. I've been collecting data from Bitfinex and I see many opportunities there.

Sounds very interesting.

Is there any scripts for Arbitrage available ?

Re: Trading on Crypto Currency exchanges? - 07/03/17 13:50

Btw. this is somewhat ontopic: because there were many scams, hacks etc. in crypto world it's probably worthwhile to check whether there are any red flags regarding particular exchange. Especially regarding regulation, audits, unbusinesslike conduct etc. A good site for that is http://digiconomist.net/fraud-risk-assessments - although in some cases an important piece of information might be missing and in other cases the risks might be overblown. For me personally the most trustworthy exchange at the moment is Bitstamp but unfortunately there've only three cryptocurrencies, no margin trading and high trading fees. Kraken, Bitfinex and Poloniex are certainly interesting exchanges for automatic trading because they provide many trading pairs and zero trading fees for market makers but they are also less reputable. I think the way to go is to split the investment among several exchanges.

@pcz: Do you have already history files for cryptos (or even a usable source where to get them)?

A Kraken plugin would be indeed nice ...

Sphin: I use this application to collect the data: https://github.com/Aurora-Team/BitcoinExchangeFH

Currently I'm collecting data only for Bitfinex pairs and I store them in .csv files. I've got only one month worth of data (for most of the pairs) which is around 40 GB.

It seems that you can download data for various exchanges here: http://api.bitcoincharts.com/v1/csv/

I don't have any experience with the source though so I don't know what's the quality etc...

Hi Jcl,
What about the output of decimals in the stats report and logs ?
Is it going to be truncated at 2 decimals ?

Thanks

BitcoinExchangeFH looks cool, thanks!

Re: Trading on Crypto Currency exchanges? - 07/04/17 23:22

Withdrawing is not necessary for trading.
But if you have a substantial amount you want to be free to withdraw whatever you want .
And now Poloniex have substantial issues.

http://www.newsbtc.com/2017/06/24/users-cant-withdraw-funds-poloniex/

Also support is non existent.
Is working at full capacity.
Something will happen there first or after.

This is my opinion and you are free to use Poloniex if you are happy with it.

Hi vinsom,

not good to learn something like this about Poloniex.
Personally I had no problems withdrawing from it, lat successful try was today.

Re: Trading on Crypto Currency exchanges? - 07/28/17 22:20

Hi Jcl
I'm now working on the Kraken plugin.
Have a questions:

Most of altcurrencies on Kraken have no leverage. I remember there was an issue in Zorro when Leverage was set to 1. The issue was that there was a margin call even with leverage set to 1 when you invest all capital. Is this still an issue in the last version ?

Thanks
Vincenzo

Re: Trading on Crypto Currency exchanges? - 08/01/17 09:37

No, a margin call can now only happen when the leverage is above 1.
