IG - 12/07/16 11:04

hi JCL, on your blog I have seen that you have been contacted by IG. Is an API connection with this broker scheduled for a near future?
It seems to be an alternative to IB.
Thank you

... thought you didn't like IG:

Anyway, I'm satisfied with them so far (after 3 months or so) and I even did withdraw some money recently, it worked. In the meantime they even offer Microlots for the MT4 platform, so I'm repeating my vote to add a bridge to IG, in particular given the variety of instruments and apparently powerful API. And they have a local office in my city cool

Just read some of those FPA reviews. Their rating is below 2 and many reviews are brutal. http://www.forexpeacearmy.com/forex-reviews/109/www.ig.com

Well, other big players (including those supported by Zorro today) such as FXCM, Oanda, Interactive Brokers, or ActivTrades are not getting much better scores or comments on FPA. Except Oanda I have considerable experience with all of them and no major problems yet. Did I bother posting that on FPA? Of course not. You may consider the possibility that such platforms are mainly filled by those who had bad experiences (including bad trades - ok, I had those but my faults, of course) and the more customers a broker has the more bad experience can be made. Some smaller brokers might also be posting their own review results (which is easier for them based on the lower number of real reviews).
At least IG are one of the largest CFD brokers in Europe and regulated by the respective authorities in many countries. Systematic fraud should be very difficult under these circumstances. The fact that they are offering spread betting can be rather considered a plus given jcl's test results with binary options on Financial Hacker.
Anyway, of course I don't know. You probably cannot fully trust anyone, neither any brokers nor review platforms, nor forum comments. So you just need to be careful and apply reasonable safety measures such as distributing your capital across multiple brokers & assets, etc and meanwhile focus on facts like trading cost, tradable assets, platforms availability, API capabilities, VPS sponsoring, ...

Re: IG - 12/09/16 17:17

We have not scheduled an IG API implementation, but I have not heard anything negative about IG. Broker scores on websites should be taken with a grain of salt anyway. People lose money, blame their broker, and post a low rating.

Re: IG - 04/04/17 20:00

I am interested in opening an account with IG and to use Zorro S with z strategy
In the manual (http://zorro-project.com/manual/en/zsystems.htm) is written

Multiple Zorros: You'll need Zorro S for trading all Z systems at the same time. Also make sure with your broker that your account is set up to allow multiple sessions. Some brokers set up accounts for single sessions only by default.

So I am wondering IF IG Allows multiple sessions

Thanks

Yes, they do, but we have no IG plugin yet. As to my knowledge, a user is currently devloping an IG plugin, but I don't know details.

Hi. I'm currently developing a plugin for IG. I've pretty far along, currently working out some issues with the support team.

You can read about the default API limits at the bottom section of their FAQ:
https://labs.ig.com/faq

As for multiple sessions, the FAQ says:
---
Can I increase my streaming API limits?
Your limit may be managed by unsubscribing and subscribing as required. Alternatively, contact us to discuss your requirements. Please do not create multiple concurrent connections as this may lead to your API key being suspended
---

So here itīs sounds like multiple sessions is not allowed.
Then again, it might be allowed as long as you don't go above the default limit for total number of connections. You would probably want to talk to IG about that to make sure.

Re: IG - 04/07/17 13:42

This is for preventing that users open multiple streams with several connections, this way stepping around the data limit. But you should be able to open multiple connections as long as you don't violate the limits - at least that is my understanding.

Makes sense. I have sent a question on this to IG, will update here when I get an answer.

Re: IG - 04/10/17 06:37

I got an answer from IG, which doesn't really clarify the situation.

My question:
"The default limit for streaming API subscriptions is 40. The FAQ says that you are not allowed to have multiple concurrent connections. I'm wondering if I'm allowed to have multiple concurrent connections as long as my total number of subscriptions is less than 40, e.g. create 4 concurrent connections with 10 subscriptions each."

And the answer:
"The total amount of concurrent subscriptions per API key is 40. Therefore you would be able to concurrently subscribe to 40 different data streams.

The concurrent connections rule is so that you'd connect to the API using a single API key and application using a single connection rather than multiple applications using the same API key, meaning multiple connections.

Therefore it would not be recommended that you create 4 concurrent connections to have 10 subscriptions each."
