When live trading my strategy via Interactive Brokers using the IB Gateway i encounter the following messages very often:

Code:

I thought the IB Gateways was supposed to be connected all the time except for some scheduled maintainance downtime ( Current System Status ).

What are the reasons the connection will be lost? And what is most important is how long will the connection be lost? I cannot see this in the log as there are no timestamps for these error messages.

This info is important when I want to do intra day trading a long lasting connectivity problem could cause serious issues with trade execution.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Today I also had a case where IB Gateway was showing me a MessageBox telling me that the connection was lost and it required me to enter my login data including the secure key again.

How often does something like this happen? How reliable is IB really?

According to our experience, it happens quite often. It might also depend on the location and to which IB server you're connected.
