Hi,

I want to start to work on a ancient/medieval historic strategy game project, but I clearly see that alone it would be a never-ending development, so I need a team with a few members, or I would join one if luckily one exists with similar interest. I can no pay; in turn I don't expect to be paid by you. I'm a hobbyist, so I can't work in full time on it. You might know my earlier works from the forum; normally I can spend significant, but varying time on it (weekly 10-20 hours), what I expect from other team members too, beside experience and in-depth knowledge of this game engine, or content creation tools in case of artists.

My idea is a turn based + real time strategy game (TBS town development + army moves, and optional RTS battles respectively), featuring easy user moddability by releasing custom game editors. Focusing on battle focused local military conflicts would enable the game to be relatively simple and low scale, beside achieving nice quality and performance too.

Currently I'm working on the RTS module, as it is the bottleneck, integrated into MapBuilder editor, which requires game specific customization (several pathfinding related stuff are ready, not included in the published version). The TBS part also has a rough plan, but it is under simplification. The best would be to make the important design decision by the whole team.

Planned positions - tasks (flexible):

Lead designer - concept/overall graphics design, organize/help the work of artists
2D designer - gui design (lots of icons), textures for 3d artists
3D modeller (txesmi) - general modelling of low poly static models with effective texture usage (for TBS and RTS maps)
character modeller - very low poly character design, rigging, animation (for TBS and RTS maps)
environment artist - create game maps from assets provided by other artists, which heavily affects game-play too, making requests towards artists and programmers
game programmer (Aku_Aku) - making the game core and the custom level editor, creating effective map system of TBS map, shaders and effects, gui programming, (multiplayer programming,) having advanced lite-c knowledge and at least an A8 Commercial licence
AI programmer (sivan) - map decomposition, hierarchical pathfinder, potential field maps for AI decision making, AI behaviour tree, building/development/military tech trees, visual AI debugging modes, having advanced lite-c knowledge and at least an A8 Commercial licence
sound/music artist - creating all in-game sounds and music

I would like to concentrate on AI and game-play stuff, but can do most of the general programmer's tasks including shaders, can make basic 2D/3D assets but rather only as placeholders or samples, have a little experience in character animation, and as a hobby musician I can help in audio stuff too. So nothing is carved into stone, I expect fewer members to come than needed, resulting in flexible/multiple roles. Taking part in completed 3DGS projects is an advantage laugh Communication language is English only (despite my Hungarian is a lot better).

Hi,

the project is in progress, but there are some positions/tasks still open, we are looking for the followings:

- programmer: to create a flexible editor gui system module,
- programmer: to create a height map based "world map" system (optimized terrain rendering, rivers with changing riverbeds),
- 2D artist: create textures for RTS building models, and ground,
- 3D artist: very low poly RTS character modelling/skinning/rigging/animating,

about more exact game details we can talk in PM.

how are you going to handle sound fx ,voice acting ?

I was just thinking , I have not seen anyone here who
specialise in sound fx around the forum , sound is such a big part of
bringing a game to live .

There is alot of people who is able to cover most of
a game's assets except sound , music is not as important as sound fx ,ambient sound ,voices etc but
combined correctly it makes a big difference ..

would be great if we at the forum had a place we could collect a bunch of recordings to use freely /paid
in our projects , a forum members initiative..

this area is not covered until now, I want to get work first the basics, then when graphics style and gameplay is more or less working, we can add a proper sound package. I have a lot of musician friends, personally I can make some music, sounds and effects, but I know it is a more special task...

@sivan - Sadly I do not have skillsets at the level you need. But possible I could be of use at some point in this process.

Actual couldn't this be done with a sticky post in the User Resources forum? Or did you mean, A host for the files?

hi Malice,
currently we have 2 programmers (one person working on a tech tree tool, and me on everything else), and 2 artists (buildings and characters), if you see what other area you could deal with, just send me a PM. later we will need testers too with some exprerience in game development.

...moreover, it would be great if someone could join to do some general concept arts, I mean 2D drawings (by hand or a software, does not really matter), to help the work of our 3D modellers. I can send details and references of the historic era in PM if anybody interested.

yes, absolutely!

we will need a lot of in-game buttons with well designed icons of buildings, military units, technologies, orders... I can't even know all of them grin

and of course a couple of logos, or logo like in-game illustrations, like unit and building pictures (which of course can be made of their 3D model but 2D art would be better).

the project is still in an early design state, so I can provide mostly written information, and a project management site with some references on trello.com. just PM me your email address.

"Great" news:
- The project was cancelled in Dec, thus I have had time MapBuilder update.
- I'm still working on the game in a smaller scale with decreased complexity. A demo will be made with Gamestudio, but UE4 seems to be a big competitor for further work...
- Any help in 2d/3d art work is welcome. laugh
