TreemagikG3 - 03/20/11 12:17

Hi,

I'm currently thinking about buying the TreemagikG3 and Plant Life. Is there anyone using one of this tools?

What I would be interested in, does the import into Gamestudio work without problems?
How good is the automatic LOD generation of TreemagikG3 (I couldn't test this in the demo)?

Are there any other tools that do the same job? TreemagikG3 is rather old and doesn't work under Win7. It also doesn't support normalmapping for trees.

Thanks for your advices!

I have a license of it and it runs fine under Win7.

The tool ist not bad, it can create trees in different resolutions and can create flat images of the tree for billboards.

I personally did not like the results very much. The textures that come with that tool are very bad and too lowres. The geometry is also very simple. You can only select a few additional models for the roots and they all look artificial.

So my resume was that it is good for prototyping to create some trees very fast. But it is not the best solution for a final result.

I can confirm that statement.

I use it for everything. It exports the trunk seperately from the foliage so you can do some pretty nice things with shaders.

Just in support of TreemagickG3 if anyone should know this it should be frank. It's not the quality of your models or the amount of poly's that make a model. It's the textures, lighting, shadows and how you use them that makes a quality scene. Your game is just a movie set and you are the producer!

Yes, but from time to time you need to place a few interesting trees and they have to be handmade anyway.

Thanks for your answers.

Yes the textures have a bad resolution. Are bigger selfmade textures supported?

I still can't run Treemagik on my Win7 system (it runs nice on XP). I hope it works after updating my gfx driver and direct x.

as far as i remember plant life worked fine on win7, not sure.

you can always change the textures after you exported/imported models to med or whatever modelling app you are using.

Ok thanks for your help!
