Can anyone tell me how to put my game snippits on to an AVI file like the ones on You Tube.

Why not try one of these:
- Camstudio (free, can capture a part of a screen, not great performance
- Fraps(trial version can only record short pieces and has watermark)
- or ZDsoft screen recorder(can record a part of a screen, trial has watermark)

Nah, I used Camstudio, and it's crap.
Use BB FlashBack (Thanks to DJBMASTER), there is a free edition.

project is dead, but it's like free version of fraps. cant record sound but can use codecs while recording.
