well, if they are not willing, i will claim refund, give back my licenses, as i'm well within the 30 days range, and re-buy it.

That's a rather weird price! It's cheaper to buy a new license than to upgrade? Wtf...

Cheers

thanks

$549? omg! for that price you could get Softimage XSI Foundation,$200 is more reasonable.

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 12/14/07 14:37

But can it export in x in an USABLE WAY into 3dgs?!

i wouldn't touch xsi even if you'd give it away for free. i tried to get into xsi several times, but failed due to the misconceptions of the interface. imo, it's even more confusing than blender.
carrara's interface may look childish and playful, but it's well structured and has some serious power under the hood.

about the exporters: i didn't test em with 3dgs, but i can tell you that fbx seems to fulfil what i expect: anims, mesh, textures, skinning. note that fbx and x are only available in the pro version.

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 12/14/07 20:17

Wow, actually at under $200, this is a very good deal for the features you get in the Pro version (especially the non-linear animation and graph animation editing tools).

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 12/17/07 22:58

I'm wondering if there's a catch somewhere... it still doesn't make much sense. Is this something temporary just for the holidays or something?

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 12/18/07 01:05

yes, only till 31/12/2007.
there has been such a sale before, at the time when it's been released and carrara made the transition from 5 to 6 and eovia to daz.

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 12/18/07 03:14

Right, so the real catch is probably that you'd have to shell out money again for Carrara 7 which may be released sometime soon?

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 12/18/07 09:05

The current version already have alot of powerful features
against other expensive 3D softwares, it is a best price and
best buy software right now, why waiting for version 7 and
pay for the original price?

You'd have to pay a small amount of money to upgrade when
version 7 is out I think

@broozar, just curious.... do you get the refund?

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 12/18/07 12:14

May you animate a model , export it into 3dgs and make a avi file?
I have to be sure that is a viable alternative for animation.

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 12/18/07 13:44

I don't use Carrara, but yep I'm very sure you can animate and get your model into 3DGS. Though if you want to make an avi file (of the game, running?) you need FRAPS. If you want to make an avi file of your animation outside of the game, you should be able to do it in Carrara.

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 12/18/07 13:46

one letdown is the x exporter. no tweens between the bone keys are exported, so the model jumps from pose to pose without any interpolation. plus, it has a scaling problem, the animated model grows by ~300% all of a sudden when changing into animation mode. strange, as this doesn't happen when you import it in carrara. so it's a problem car<>3dgs.

please, could someone try the fbx export with 3dgs? i don't have a7, so i cannot check it. seems to work fine with other apps, but that scaling issue with x made me suspicious.

@vlau: yes, i got it. they cancelled my order and i ordered it anew, for the sale price.

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 12/18/07 15:46

Just try to export a primitive (with some simple keyframe animation)
to .fbx, no animation exported, sadly.

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 12/18/07 17:58

use bones. vertex animations are not exported, just apply a bone to the primitive, rotate the bone, and then retry to export. at least that's what their website says.

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 12/18/07 18:05

MED can freeze bone animation into vertex animation during fbx import, I think

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 12/18/07 18:47

I've tried to export a boned character which
is loaded from Browser->Animation->animtest.car

still no luck.

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 12/18/07 21:01

yes, i can confirm that. a shame. well, time to give back my licens for the 3rd time... DAZ must really love me but who cares. i paid for something i didn't get. and i am needing a working fbx exporter.

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 01/05/08 20:24

cararra's animations never have seemed to export with fBX exporter.. however the X exporter the animations exported just fine.

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 01/05/08 21:03

really? i had bad scaling problems with carrara's x. plus, vertex weights are not exported.

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 01/05/08 21:47

I know there is a weight painter in the modelling pallate that allows you to paint and inspect frame by frame.... I usually then imported everything into fragmotion to double check... to be honest I only used this for importing models into realmcrafter.. but It worked fine there.. I can experiment later with getting it into gamestudio later.

the thing about scaling in carrara is on export it will give you the option to convert the scaling to poser, hex and yadda.. at least i noticed that with the object formaat and you need to check either no scaling or something.

Re: Carrara 6 Pro under $200 - 01/06/08 00:01

if you have the time, please experiment a lil. about the scaling: the model scales fine, just the animation frame meshes seem to be several times bigger than the frame_0 model.
