3impact [engine] - 06/06/07 21:54

hi all,

i am quite surprised that noone reported here about the 3impact engine.

http://www.3impact.com/ [engine site]
http://www.devmaster.net/engines/engine_details.php?id=48 [devmaster re-/overview]

i know the website looks unprofessional, but it's worth a closer look. i do not yet own a license, but it sounds and looks great. v5 has now a fx shader port as well as incredible physics simulation.

some remarkable screens:

you got to see the video on this site:
http://www.3impact.com/Monster_Truck_Pc_Game/index.htm

demo:
http://www.3impact.com/3Impact_Engine/dyruk89b/3impact51_demo.exe

featuring a spherical physics example in the last demo. wow...

it's my hottest candidate as an a7 alternative. check out the forums as well.

editing is done in your favourite editor. almost any programming language can be used such as c/c++, delphi/pascal, basic.. even mingW as compiler is allowed (great thing for the dev-cpp users).

Re: 3impact [engine] - 06/07/07 00:41

What kind of scene management using in 3impact? Without that you can only make small physics demo or tiny game.

And I don't like it doesn't include a world editor, how should I place entity, and adjust entity properties?

I've seen some of these screens before, but I could of sworn I saw them with Torque...

BTW: Typing with one hand sucks.... lol. Just incase you were wondering

Judging by the installation instructions for this engine, I think non-programmers need not apply.

Re: 3impact [engine] - 06/07/07 06:40

Programmers neither, I ordered a demo version and tried it with a relatively small terrain model and got 4 fps. The engine is a DirectX and ODE wrapper with no scene manager whatsoever. They dont have a demo version for download, you have to email them and order it, probably for that reason.

But it was not Torque. You probably mean the monstertruck / stunt demo from Quest3d.

Re: 3impact [engine] - 06/07/07 17:38

i'm getting a constant 75 fps (which is my monitor frequency) with 4xAA, 1280x1024 and 4xAF on a GF 6800, 2 gig ram, athlon xp 2600.

3impact has 2, maybe 3 weak points:
1. no editors included. it's really an engine, you'll have to know what you do.
2. only *.x model import. it isn't limiting for me, but for some of you this might be relevant.
3. no LOD management, you will have to write your own.

@xXx: how's the shader comin along?

With the fuctions of the engine now support
you can make great thinks
and goes to great fps

Looool, yeah, me too.

3impact isn't bad at all, too bad it's a while since I've done anything with my Delphi skills and C++ is currently out of my league more or less. 200$ isn't bad either, then again there are some cons. For example I personally don't like the lack of a world specific editor, it has many advantages over a instant import of model files,

Cheers

Re: 3impact [engine] - 06/13/07 05:28

Damn, I didn't notice the difference . As I said, I only used 3d RAD, and that was along time ago (before I got into 3DGS). It seemed good with the little flight sim demo, but I didn't like it...
