RC Boat Challenge SE released / Demo available - 07/15/04 04:23

Hello everyone,

today my publisher has released a new demo version of RC Boat Challenge
which is available at www.greenstreetgames.com
You can drive a 3 lap race with the "Mighty Boat" in a jungle world.
The release date of the full version (in Europe) is early August.
(development and testing has been finished)

The special edition of RC Boat challenge is on the shelves in the UK now.
You can also order it online at www.green-label.com

BTW, thanks a lot for all the emails I got the last months regarding RC Boat Challenge.

All the best,
Florian

I downloaded the demo and I really like it. It plays well and I enjoyed the music a lot. You have inspired me for sure. I hope that it is a very successful game. Good luck with it!

All and all good stuff and it looks nice. I still don't like the fact that you come to a dead stop when you hit something, though.

Hi Florian,

Great Demo. I hope you sell a lot of these games.

Suggestions,

1) Make the water darker. IMHO you should not see the bottom.

2) Bouncing off walls or objects would increase my enjoyment.

3) Power-ups to give speed boost, and other help in racing.

4) I would try moving the camera lower so you can see more of whats ahead of you. A camera that had some LERP to it would be cool.

5) Waves using an animated water terrian.

6) Add some skid to the turns of the boat.

7) Rooster tail particles behind the boat.

8) Tighten up the collision rectangle on the boat and the swimming objects. I was stopping when no visual collision was on screen.

I hope you do not mind my humble two cents.

These are just nits, the game is really well done.

Congrats and great work.

Great job on the game. I really enjoyed the title screens music. I agree with Nardulus on his suggestions, there is always room for improvements. I noticed that when typing in my name there was a little font trouble with little lines showing. Not that big of a deal, but it can be fixed. Otherwise the graphics are at a decent level. I hope it sells well, and you will create a sequel with some of these suggestions implemented in the future. As well, thank you for the demo!

First of all I admire people who actually finish something and get their idea/product sold. Great job!

I have to admit with Orange Brat and Nardulus that the collision could be a bit improved. If we think these boats in real life - with that speed - they actually behave like that - almost totally stop when hit an object - but this is the place to keep the playability in mind.

Anyway there are not too many published 3DGS developers so you are one of those we others look up to !

btw. for some reason the music volume setting did not work for me...

I redownloaded but the exe crashed my system so I went back to playing your original demo download.
Still as enjoyableas ever.
Cheers.

Re: RC Boat Challenge SE released / Demo available - 07/16/04 02:41

Nardalus it's rigth about some features. Or bugs. :P

I agree wiht nr. 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8. The others are just an option. But the main things to do are 3 and 8. Because it's not nice to crash on a distant snake or turtle and to see the others get ahead, even if you have the same boats. Or I'm not rigth here?

In rest, it was a fine game, and it did made me try to win the first place, but no help, even with easy difficulty. And here comes another thing. I didn't saw any modifications when playing on easy, medium or hard difficulty.

Greab job.

Re: RC Boat Challenge SE released / Demo available - 07/16/04 04:29

Hello everyone,

thanks for all the kind words and suggestions!
I hope the sales goes well and there's interest
and enough budget in a sequel (in which of course
I can implement some of the ideas and improvements)
I got many emails concerning RC Boat Challenge and
that's wy I am convinced of its potential.

@Nardulus: Feedback is always welcome!
I like the idea of power ups. If there will be a sequel
I will improve the collision system. I absolutely agree
that this will make the gameplay even more enjoyable.
Perhaps we could do a cooperation on part 2?

BTW, I know it's hard to win the race with the "Mighty Boat"
(even with difficulty set to "easy"). But in the full version
you can unlock faster and better boats through the tournament.

All the best,
Florian

Re: RC Boat Challenge SE released / Demo available - 07/16/04 06:25

just some suggestions from the point of a gamer;

-The start is pretty linear, even though its probably not true of RC boats, you should have a revving and an art to the launch (not revving until it hits green or your boat goes slow?)

-Also you need to have some choice, secret passages or mulitple ways to go (one way could be quicker, but is harder to navigate).

-The snakes were a nice touch, but I found I often got tangled with them and was stuck for a huge amount of time, maybe if they sank once you hit them? Or if they sped away quickly once you hit them (so it wouldnt be as frustrating)

- The turns are good but it should be a little harder to make them, so people would have to slow down a little to pull a good turn, and drifting would be nice once again, but i dont know how hard that is to do.

- Past that you could have damage models, so if you hit a wall/animal/another boat X times it the boat either sinks or explodes (differant models replace the boat as it gets more damaged)

Just thought I'd add my 2c on what could make this game addicting and fun

You really have to improve the things Nardulus already said. But not in later in Part2 (perhaps)! Do it now as a Patch and take it to your or the publisher's website. Better to have a patched game than a game with many disadvantages in gameplay and fun.

Otherwise, very very good work. I already liked the first demo some months ago, but there, I think, the collosion system was even better than now... I don't know.

Congradulations and good game!
One suggestion which has already been noted, I get a very hard stop of the bote when I touch a wall or hit a snake / animal in the water. It's very frustrating the way the boat stops.

Hello everyone,

the full version of RC Boat Challenge is on the shelves in the UK now.
It contains more tracks and boats than the special edition.
It is also online available at Greenstreet Games.

In the US you can get it at the Micro Center Store.

Further my publisher has planned to release the game in Italy and even China.

I am currently working on a second project with 3DGS and I hope I have a good
start with RC Boat Challenge.

Bye,
Florian

Re: RC Boat Challenge SE released / Demo available - 12/06/04 11:11

I just wanted to say I enjoyed your demo, and will refrain from commenting on the collision because it has already been brought up. What really caught my eye was the water trail effects. They look beautiful. If you are taking suggestions for a possible sequel, I think there should be water spray(particles) that leave water dropplets on the screen when it comes in contact with it similar to rain in NFS2U. Though I only played the demo for a few minutes, I did not see any jumps. Are there any jumps? If not that should be a nice addition for a sequel. Thx for the demo .
