spring cleaning - 04/21/07 20:47

This week I have some time to create my website, in thinking of what to include I decided that it would be nice to add a section for free content. Therefore I will be searching through archives this week and getting some models and textures to give away. This is the first model, it has a fully animated fly cycle which looks very good(well you can be the judge, but I think the animation is pretty good). Anyway, you are welcome to use these models for commercial purposes as long as you put me or my forum name in the credit. Hopefully noone knows my real name so I will just hope you use my forum name. Also, please do not resell any of these models without my permission. Here is the first one. Some of you might remember, I did this model a couple of years ago.

And here is the temporary download location which will change after I complete the website.
Pterodan model

AS a side note: I do not claim this to be an anatomically correct Pterodan, it is just a product of my imagination which probably resembles no actual dinosaur.

You're absolutely right here, as dinosaurs couldn't fly and therefore a pterodon isn't a dinosaur at all. It's just a flying saurian.

Thank you very much for contributing. The models skin lacks a bit of details, but is overall very well designed and animated.

True.

Here is another one I did during the same time period, the texture needs work.

OK. This model has all the normal animations, including some "eating" and 2 long "idle" animations. I hope you can get some use out of them. As a matter of fact it really doesnt matter to me if you resell them on turbosquid or make a model pack, or even claim that you made them yourself, I dont care. I just hope they are useful to someone.

FYI: The Troodon is supposed to be one of the smartest dinosaurs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troodon

Hi Nitro,

Thanks for the models.
I put them in my train level below.
This dino walks around, and then randomly spins at the players and growls.

Btw, I learned something really important guys.
I learned that Dinosaurs hate trains.
Yeah man, they really hate them!

LOL HAHA!

Lol, there's one of those bird-dinos by the way.

Anyways, great models Nitro, big thanks!! I'm sure I will use them, not sure when, but these are good enough to build a project around, even if just for the fun of it,

Cheers

Again great models, I'm certainly going to use the Troodon model in my project when I start on the enemy's AI. Thanks Nitro777.

@all
Thanks for all the positive feedback, I feel about ten feet tall now. It is awesome to feel that the models will be used

@Phemox, Thanks, I know how the Troodon supposedly fits in evolution's scheme, thats one of the reasons why dinosaurs interest me. I am reading another book about transitionals right now which is very fascinating.

@Ran man, Im glad to see that you keep inventing new and interesting ways to make your game challenging. You seem to have an unlimited supply of game ideas.

Heres all the rest of the dino models. I wasnt going to add these because the textures are just so bad, but just for the sake of completion I add them, however I will not blame you if you dont like them. There are no animations on these. However I will also upload the original textures so that you can change the skins in a paint program. If you really want to changge them though, the best bet is to change their model format in milkshape then re-map them because I just quickly threw an automatic uv mapping on all of these.

Heres another one I didnt like the texture for. The good news is that the UV's are laid out much more organized on this one and there are only 1500 polys.

Hey, thanks. I can use the space guy.
Fair is fair. Here are a couple that I should have spring cleaned a while back.

An old Trex-Dragon that I was playing with while developing a medieval RPG. Ended up with a ton of models, no real game to use 'em in. Free to use with credits .

This one is a little newer, but kind of high-poly. I tried to get it down to under 2000, but not this time... Free to use with credits .

Re: spring cleaning - 04/30/07 03:17

Very nice models Mark, too bad they didn't go to use [yet]...

If I had the time/skill, I'd apply some bones to them...

Re: spring cleaning - 04/30/07 05:34

Thanks xXGuitar511. A little polish would make 'em real nice. Unfortunately I have to wait for birthdays and xmas for the wife to okay my hobby budget. We all must answer to a higher power. I'm hoping to upgrade to Commercial soon, and can make use of bones. Of course, I'd love to improve my programming skills, too. I have half a dozen games started, taken to my limits, and then...

Shoulda stayed in school and paid attention to the math teacher.

Cheers!

They are not compressed files, they are just .mdl files, so when it asks which program to open up with just use the MED.

Re: spring cleaning - 05/02/07 01:10

Well, the skin is easy to change. I like the grey, it's how I believe dinosaurs looked, but who knows. Here's mister rex sporting a striped green skin. yeah, I know, I know, no blending around the belly, and the tail needs work...

I just got Photoshop, so I'm hunting and pecking. There has to be a better way to blur the edges than the little smudge tool. LOL So much to learn, so little time.

ooooohhhhhhhhhhh i like that! do a little more work on the texture and make a download! i can see that fitting in my project well

Re: spring cleaning - 05/03/07 00:32

I might play with the texture a bit. I'm having fun with this guy. Good opportunity to play with Photoshop. Anyone know of a good tutorial for making animal skins or blending in PS? I really hate the hard lines where the belly meets the "hide".
