The link is messed up for some reason.

Heres the real link

Awesome flags. Really like the animations they look great. The skin is great and will be very easily modified for any country or any other need some one may have.Thank you very much.

Duh! Lmao, I didnt even bother to check it.

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/15/06 08:10

the models are really nice, though the animation is not. nice contrib anyways.

[EDIT] this is how the animation should look like (5 min thing in c4d):

if you like it, i'll load it up.

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/15/06 14:35

Thanks a lot, I can use these in my Modern War RTS game? Well it says free, so I guess I can

Thanks a lot, these are perfect!!!

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/15/06 15:41

I like them

DaBro0zar I'd like to see that flag model as well. unskinned is fine
Posted By: Blattsalat

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/15/06 16:31

@DaBro0zar: this only works with smoothed models. the flag has not a lot of faces so it can be used in rts games as units flags.

thanks for the feedback! (and i will have to check the link )
you can use the model in any game or application you want.

cheers

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/15/06 20:39

I got a request: Do you have a flag pole? Like in the screenshot in the first post.

Lol Spent the last 20 mins trying to duplicate that in blender. Not as easy it looks. My main issue was getting it to loop properly.

I still think the animations look excellent tho. Im curious did you use a cloth simulation to create these or vertex animation?

@Sheefo

a flag pole would be very easy to model and texture... after all its just a pole with a knob on top.
Posted By: broozar

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/15/06 21:55

no, it's a deformation object (wind modifier, "flag"-flag set, simulating a 67m big piece of cloth with an amplitude of 7m at a frequency of 10 Hz with oriented object origin

@ grimber: i need to find an efficient way to export it to mdl. the only way up to now seems to be a frame-by-frame export to 3ds, which can be a quite annoying process with exactly 99 frames
Posted By: Grimber

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/15/06 23:20

should beablt to trim the frames down 1/3 to 1/5 the number without loosing the animation.

if you want, can just zip up all the .3ds frames I can play with converting it

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/15/06 23:34

i won't be there over the weekend, so expect it on monday.

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/16/06 03:26

Hi,

you can add more smoothness to the flag and get better motion results. but on the other hand then you cant use it for rts games anymore:

higher polycount video

i personaly prefer flags that move quite a bit in the wind. flags in reality flap and jump arround and dont move as smooth as you made it. but tahts just a matter of taste.
thats why i add horizontal and vertical movement and mix them by weight.

!!! i have added the pole to the pack. just redownload it and it is included "flagpole.mdl". !!!

cheers and have a nice one

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/16/06 08:29

I've only made one 3D model in my life, and it looks crap. It's only that arrow thing you see in WED and MED.

I can try, but I might not get it right. I like the one on the picture. But I can always try to make my own...

Thanks for sharing them.

-->..Canada???...

c´mon...only countries! nothing made up!

I will update the skins in a short time so if anyone has another request this would be the time.

btw.: would conitec allow a gs flag??

glad you like it. i will also add another more smooth version with the next update for those who need more detail.

cheers and have a nice one

as i promised, the 3dgs flag, model with stripped-daown animation will come later this eve:

i finally decided to close the mesh, so that stencil shadows can be used.

Cool! Can you link us to a download
Posted By: broozar

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/18/06 20:21

umm... well, the conversion gives me a LOT of trouble... i spent 2 hours with finding out that the wind deformer creates only a virtual object. the website with a converter to PLA is currently down... bad. i almost resigned.

well, to present at least a small thing, i exported 20 frames by hand in the 3ds format and glued them together in MED, which was an awful thing to do. plus, 20 frames of an original 100 frames long animation makes it look... hm, .. simple.

when the PLA conversion tool is online again, i will surely load up a better version. up to now, you will have to take this:

low quality animation mdl flag
Posted By: broozar

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/19/06 10:55

so, i uploaded the final version, there's a very small jerk at the looping point, but from a certain distance it is unnoticable. hope you like the much smoother, polygon-optimized version 2:

Flag2.mdl
Posted By: sheefo

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/19/06 12:51

Thanks, it looks great

That small jerk in animation is actually a tiny jerk

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/19/06 13:03

Sorry to double post, but can some make me skins for the flags. I need PALESTINE, CUBA and AFGHANISTAN in same size and format as the others.

Will you...?
Posted By: Grimber

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/19/06 15:07

just do a google image search on the flags get the image then scale it down to the

for Blattsalat flag the skin size is 256x128
for DaBro0zar flag the skin size is 256x256

such as, here are 2 flag iamges resized ready to use on Blattsalat's flag model.

Nato

North Dakota

many websites can be found with flag images. Afganistan I did a search on it and found 5 differnt national flags for that country alone
Posted By: sheefo

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/19/06 16:05

Thanks, these images are cool. But they are too perfect The other ones you can see the shadows in some places.

Maybe I can create the flag images myself in Photoshop, and just google of an image to relate to

WOW, thanks a bunch

These are great, it's got every one I need and with a burnt version
Posted By: Grimber

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/20/06 00:36

is it basicly a cloth/fabric filter and then doing some mask/subtracting.

was looking at some US civil war flags ( mabey some revolutionary flags as well ) to make war torn look

some nice flags then look for a good mechanic system for reinacting miniture battles ( then make some unit and building models) would make a nice TBS stratagy game

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 09/20/06 01:51

big fan of the old classic "north&south" (loved the sleeping mexican assasin).

here are the acw flags. not sure if all are accurate and the fact that every state had at least 20 different flags at the same time makes it a little difficult

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 10/06/06 15:21

Hi Blattsalat.

Nice flags.
Do you ahve any off Portugal? I just need one of Portugal to complete the set. Or how can I add those effects over the flag texture? Not the dirt one.
Thanks.
Posted By: PHeMoX

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 10/07/06 23:40

The steps required to achieve this effect are these: The effect is a simple black layer above the layer with the flag on it (in photoshop), then simply use cool brushes and erase certain parts of the black layer, to make those parts of the flag visible ... After some fun with nice brushes, voíla a flag that looks ripped apart,

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 12/09/06 14:36

have you got a blank png file with all the layers so we can make our own flags?
thanks
Posted By: Blattsalat

Re: (free) low polygon flags - 12/12/06 08:47

sorry no. this requires several photoshop layers to work.
but you could use the blank white flag and blend your needed flag onto it.

cheers

i'm more interested in how u got it to wave like that, it would be also really cool if you could fix up that glitching at the end a bit, not that it matters... thanks regardless
