PushTheBox - OpenSource

PushTheBox - OpenSource - 03/13/13 21:48

This is small two days project, I've decided to make after I had a HDD crash.
The idea and levels are similar to original games (push the box or SHOVE IT!).
You need to push boxes in order to solve the puzzles (demo contains 5 levels).
Some screens, for those who are lazy:
Quote:
Game Splash Screen: First level: Game Studio Logo (thank's to BME):
This simple example contains:
Quote:
* splash screen
* simple menu
* tile-based movement
* loading levels from .txt files
And maybe some other features, you may find useful ^^
You can't use texuters in commercial purposes, cause I haven't made them.
You can't use the music, cause it's an original soundtrack of the game (Shove It - The Warehouse Game).
Please make sure to read the "readme.txt"!
And if you dare to try, here is a demo for you (open source, dirty code):
PushTheBox
It's always available at my website:
BADCOM - PushTheBox - OpenSource

Give some feedbacks and have a nice one!

NEW VERSION AVAILABLE!

Edit: I've made some small fixes:
Quote:
* fixed some issues with loading the level from the file (faster)
* displaying the stage counter in one line of code, for all levels

Greets.

Great job! It's a very fun minigame and I couldn't find any bug. This game would probably be a sucess on the mobile market laugh

Nice and crisp Sokoban-Version. I like it, especially the looks of it. You should really considering a port to smartphones, it could sell nicely. (We are publishing a fully fledged Sokoban 3D in a few weeks BTW, provided I can fix some annoying bugs ;)).

OK.. so I guess this community doesn't need small project contributions any more.. no replies since two days with about 90 view.. pretty awesome I guess. Thank you all, I won't publish anything on this forum anymore.

Aw come on. I understand you but don't be grumpy. I guess, many just don't frequent these boards every day (I don't), and we are not always checking all topics. Would be a pity.

You are probably right man, maybe I took it too serious and personal ^^ Cause I was in a bad mood (for about few weeks already).
It's just really sucks, when you are starting all of your work from scratch, making something little to start off and get no replies/support..
It's like, "Should I really continue and start working from scratch?? What for?".. I had a lot of thoughts in my head, but I'm on with Acknex again.

Thank you for support, your comment makes me feel a bit better. Maybe stuff I'm making aren't that crap as I might think grin

Re: PushTheBox - OpenSource - 03/16/13 04:25

I've been in this thread at least four times now, so I count as at least 4 views.
Also keep in mind that the forum is crawled by all sorts of spiders, bots and people who just came here from google. They also count as view, yet they can't respond in any way.

Anyways, I can't give you an opinion (after all I'm a Mac fag and only here because... Uhmm, I don't even know, for some reason I guess...). But I would like to congratulate you! Finishing a project is always a great accomplishment and you have shown more than once that you are capable of that (if I had a hat and were in close proximity to you, I would tip aforementioned hat now).

Two more things though:
1) Even if no one recognizes your work, keep in mind that you learned something from it! I haven't had one project were I didn't learn or realized one new thing, and those things are always valuable. You never know when you might need them, so it wasn't all for nothing.
2) Something something... I totally forgot what I planned to write here, sorry.

Edit: Just remembered number 2: Neither this thread nor the rar file/source code contain any kind of license. Please pick an open source license to publish your project under because otherwise everything is still protected under your copyright and it's not legal to use anything from it! Just giving out the source code to everyone isn't enough to make something open source, please keep that in mind.

JustSid@ you are right, I've learned (reminded) a lot of stuff while making this small game. Thank you for supporting me as well.

I've fixed some annoying stuff in the code, which were slowing down the game. Please re-download in order to get the latest version!

Edit: I've made some small fixes:
Quote:
* fixed some issues with loading the level from the file (faster)
* displaying the stage counter in one line of code, for all levels

Re: PushTheBox - OpenSource - 03/17/13 22:41

I just gave it a try. It's a pretty perfect mini game. If you spend some time with menu graphics and create more levels and some different scenarios this can become a nice commercial quality mini-game.

Hey nice 3run , you know so many forget how many people actualy play games like these ! Its not always about big games , many many people enjoy such smaller games and to name some would be to think about popcap games ..by the way i think i remember popcap framework to be a nice thing to get into..

There are also another type of game with doors and keys by color and such that makes nice puzzle games ..i would like to try a nice bolderdash

@ 3run, I see you get a little down sometimes but let me tell you, Ive been checking a lot of threads and your one of the most giving of the members here (seniors) and your contributions are staggering, as are other regulars...

however...folks like me who rely on folks like you can sometimes take contributions and knowledge bases for granted...

but anyhow, respect!

Re: PushTheBox - OpenSource - 06/01/13 19:16

Wjbender@ yes, I find this small kind of games very entertaining, they are different from big and complex games.. sometimes you don't want to explore the huge island, but to have some fun in short time laugh

Nems@ thank you very much for your kind words man. I really appreciate your support and I'm happy to help even if I'm still a noob myself.

Thank you all guys, posts like this make me really happy, cause I see that I can be useful around here laugh

Re: PushTheBox - OpenSource - 06/01/13 20:38

3Run I think this game is great and I'm happy to see people posting something other then screens of some super game that seems to never come. For the longest time now I have looked for your(among other select users) post as answers and have profited massively for your help .
It's a huge thing to be able to complete something and post it here, and sometimes we can catch ourselves comparing ourselves with an unfair measure. You could not be a newbie if you tried and your presence here helps everyone (even lurker newbies wink ).

This makes me miss the old floppy discs that would have like a 50 small games and a launcher program. Maybe one day there will be enough small games like this here to put together in a package.

Re: PushTheBox - OpenSource - 06/01/13 21:23

My God, I just found out that having some new replies in my old post definitely makes me happy laugh

Malice@ thank you for your kind words my friend, I'm so much happy to be a part of this community so far! Maybe I could make out some small games in the near future, as soon as I'll get my real life problems fixed, then you'll need to get an empty floppy disc laugh

Re: PushTheBox - OpenSource - 06/02/13 09:04

Lol those damned floppy discs when games were so small you that you treasured your discs...

Theres so many fun little games , there is this game these 2 guys made on the popcap framework i think it was goo something it was about physics and building towers of gio smll simple game idea but they got like over 10000 hits on the release i think now only if you could do the same with a fun concept of your own annd aim for commertial ..bingo could actualy make some bucks instead of trying to work your ass off to create large complex games wich result in nothing usualy.
